recommended way to obtain M$ hotfixes
erpdude8 replied to sybesma's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Even better. Follow the directions of requesting hotfixes from Microsoft by trying out one of the 4 methods listed on this TheHotfixShare.net forum topic: http://thehotfixshare.net/board/index.php?showtopic=11 I'm sure sybesma, the OP would be proud of the methods listed there. -
98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
sure thing, PROBLEMCHYLD, when I post up the January 2009 releases of the unofficial WMP9 URP packs sometime in middle or late January 2009. Uh make that early February 2009, PROBLEMCHYLD. I recently lost the SED files for creating the WMP9 URP packs when upgrading my room PC from XP SP3 Home Ed. to XP SP3 Pro Ed. I'll have to re-create them later this month since I'm very busy right now. If the certificates that were manually installed were very old or have old expired dates, then installing the latest Root Certificates Update is supposed to do that. As Microsoft would say, the behavior is "by design" Mdgx, I wonder if you heard about the UDMA.SYS driver for DOS? Do Google searches on it. Loading this driver adds UltraDMA support for hard drives that support UDMA and may boost performance. Works best on large hard drives. Also look for the di1000dd.sys driver; that one seems to be a universal mass storage driver for DOS. Part of the "motto hairu" usb driver package. I may start customizing my Win9x boot disks to include the udma.sys, usbaspi.sys & di1000dd.sys driver files. Undocumented switch for USBASPI.SYS > /E (scans for EHCI USB interface when using USB 2.0), use only with new versions of USBASPI.SYS -
How-to Create a bootable ERD commander with usb
erpdude8 replied to ZeReZeK's topic in Multi-Boot CD/DVDs
Better solution on this forum thread: http://forum.xatrix.org/tutorials-f26/erd-...-usb-t1552.html You'll need PE2USB, a USB Flash drive 2Gb or below (any flash drives higher than 2gigs won't work), ISOBuster (or any other ISO disassembly program; you can also try Alcohol 120%, MagicISO or UltraISO), and either 7-Zip or WinRAR to extract files from RAR files. and, of course, your BIOS needs to support booting from USB devices. -

there may be solutions at these forum pages: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=12238 http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=2652 http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/S...Q_22734340.html Just remember to enable USB Emulation, USB Legacy or USB Boot devices in your BIOS before attempting to boot from your USB devices. check in your BIOS setup program if it supports booting from USB. -

Link to Revolutions pack 7.11 topic is no longer working. Direct download link to the RP 7.11 pack still works. Happy New Year 2009, everyone! sure thing, PROBLEMCHYLD, when I post up the January 2009 releases of the unofficial WMP9 URP packs sometime in middle or late January 2009. which version of the Root Certificates Update did you install, Drugwash? Did the problem occur with the recently revised edition with Digital Signature date of November 3, 2008? -

Don't do it again or you may be banned from this forum. You have been warned! I'm making a request to the moderators of this Win9x forum to delete starcraftmaster's "extra" posts in this thread.

Paragon's NTFS for Win9x software (PNTFS.exe) is now free for home users. I've just received a license key from them via a email and the full download, not a demo. and where exactly can you find these "universal FASTFAT" drivers? Googling them doesn't seem to work and leads nowhere.

Service pack for Windows 98 Standard (First, Gold)
erpdude8 replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I will say that the other "special" addons like Tihiy's RPLite6 pack and the KernelEx addon must be install LAST, meaning these addons should be installed AFTER installing the 98fe SP. -
try not to double post, starcraftmaster. the_guy seems to be very busy this time of year, so I'll provide some answers to your questions. Wintop is an old Win95 Kerneltoy that monitors CPU usage of programs. Command Prompt Here powertoy displays a "command prompt" menu command when right-clicking on a folder in Windows Explorer. Performance Tweaks make efficient use of RAM, Vcache and may improve overall system performance in some computers. TweakUI 1.33 Powertoy is used to customize the Windows user interface; try Googling "TweakUI", starcraftmaster, if you want a better explanation than what I'm saying here. Adaptec ASPI Update (4.6.0.1021) installs Adaptec ASPI drivers for ASPI/SCSI adapters. FYI - the latest available ME service pack is 2.02 Beta 9 posted at MDGx's web site: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/MESP1.EXE

totally out of line, 98Guy (and far from the truth, IMHO). I use NTFS on some of my home PCs and it's very good. I really do NOT care which file system you guys are using as long as you're happy with it, regardless of whether it's FAT or NTFS. for DOS sessions, I use Avira NTFS4DOS Personal edition.

FAT16 vs FAT32 vs NTFS speed on USB stick

There is a way to unofficially access exFAT partitions under Windows XP. Read here: http://www.merawindows.com/Forums/tabid/32...ts/Default.aspx -
You may want to take a look at this: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/12/21/f...pdate-in-vista/ And after resolving the "winsxs" problems, download and install the FULL .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 package here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Scroll down on that site and look for the "full package" link and download the full 235Mb file.

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
MDGx will need to revise his unofficial Daylight Saving Time / Time Zone updates. Microsoft has just posted the 955839 December 2008 Cumulative Time Zone Updates in MS KB article 955839. I will delay the upcoming releases of my unofficial service packs for Win98fe and Win95 osr2 until MDGx offers the unofficial 955839 TZ/DST updates for Win9x/ME/2000/NT4 on his site. Also posted are the Cumulative Internet Explorer KB958215 (MS08-073) security updates. I'll wait for unofficial 958215 IE6 SP1 (W98MENT4) patch. Root Certificates Update revised as well. File size is now 293kb with a Digital Signature date of Nov. 3, 2008. MSXML 3 security updates from MS07-042 and beyond are no longer compatible with Win9XMENT4 systems, RetroOS. They only work with Win2k and above. Last one functional under 9x & NT4 are the MSXML 3 KB924191 (MS06-061) security patches. -

Recent XML 3.0 SP10/4.0 SP2/6.0 SP2 MS08-069 security updates: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/MS08-069.mspx replaces the MS XML MS07-042 security updates -
yea, Dave-H, the latest version of Opera is 9.62. And it may require the MSIMG32.DLL file from WinME for Opera 9.62 to work correctly under Win98.

How does one go about using a flash memory device on Windows 95?
erpdude8 replied to Andrew T.'s topic in Windows 9x/ME
and still haven't made any subsequent attempts for PassingBy to update his USB storage pack which is still in beta and not reliable enough to recommend using them. Better off using Nathan's usb storage drivers which worked with my Sony MicroVault 4GB USB Flash drive (fat32 formatted) & my cousin's old eMachine computer with Win95 SR2.5. Only the OSR2.1 and OSR2.5 CDs have the USB supplement and the USB patches. Some OSR2 CDs don't contain them. No matter. For those that don't have the OSR2.x CD's you can download the required USB support supplement packs/patches at the USBMan sites: http://www.usbman.com/WebDrivers/Win95USB%...ate/usbsupp.zip http://www.usbman.com/WebDrivers/Win95USB%...ate/usbupd2.zip This one is optional but installing USBQFE from MDGx's web site can iron out some bugs with Win95's USB support: http://www.mdgx.com/files/USBQFE.EXE (install USB supplement pack first before installing USBQFE) -
no. it may not work correctly with the latest version of kernelex installed.

I'm currently struggling to to find any documentation about "TcpWindowSize" in Windows Vista. I really hope it still works when "Receive Window Auto-Tuning" is disabled. AutoTuning currently actually has a far greater chance of completely messing up a connection than tuning it "better, faster, and more efficiently" (which indeed is its intended purpose) since a lot of routers and network-components simply don't know how to deal with it. A lot of routers with statefull inspection firewalls will have serious problems dealing with Autotuning (e.g. most - if not all - current Draytech routers). The result is packet loss, blocked connections and severely reduced network performance. I'm having a different problem though. I'm using a KISS DP-1500 networked DVD player to stream videos and music into the living room. With AutoTuning in its "normal" setting it is simply impossible to get a stable stream to this client. And it looks like this happens on all Vista installations with a lots of similar streaming clients. While I simply cannot use the AutoTuning feature (or at least not until I can afford a better streaming client) in "normal" mode I'd still like to adjust the Receive Window manually. I'm also wondering where the default value that AutoTuning bases its analysis on is set and if this might still be "TcpWindowSize". Update: I just answered my own question: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community...guy/cg1105.mspx I use "GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize" instead of just "TcpWindowSize", Gott. try that one instead.

rehbar, what kind of computer do you use?

could be some 3rd party apps that are slowing down your PC, MT.Dew. norton internet security 2008 was one of those apps that didn't work correctly with xp sp3 (and may have caused some slowdowns) until symantec offered patches to make it work with sp3 I agree with PsiMoon314, defrag your HD and see if your system gets faster.

not a good idea to use RegSeeker under Vista. I've had problems/errors using Regseeker on Vista. NTREGOPT is great for use under Vista but the creator recommends disabling UAC for NTREGOPT to work flawlessly as noted in his FAQs here: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/faq.htm

unless you configure PowerDVD XP (4.0) to play DVD discs automatically, nothing will happen right away. Installing PowerDVD 4.0 will also install DirectX6 Media which is necessary for DVD support. If DX6Media is not installed, go back and install it. Also install DirectX 8.0a.

the_guy did promise to release a 'release candidate' edition of the WinME SP by the end of last year (2007) but that never happened. he might be active in these forums but haven't found time to revise his WinME service pack. a bunch of files needed to be updated in his ME SP including the WinTop files that are currently corrupted and needed to be replaced with clean ones.
