  1. let's try experimenting this with oleaut32.dll version 2.40.4531 from Win2k KB921503 patch. If it works, great. If not, then it'll have to be version 2.40.4519 from the Visual Basic 6.x KB924053 patch.
  2. MDGx, can you re-package your OLE Automation patch to include the following: ASYCFILT.DLL v2.40.4530 (from KB917423) OLEAUT32.DLL v2.40.4519 (from VB6 KB924053) OLEPRO32.DLL v5.0.4530 (from KB917423) STDOLE2.TLB v2.40.4530 (from KB917423) me too. I've gotten "missing export" errors with OLE 3.50 files with Win9x's Autoplay option enabled when accessing CDs. The OLE 3.50 files are meant for WinXP only and not for other Windows OSes.
  3. A KB933360 hotfix for Win2k SP4 may be available but you have to contact Microsoft support for it, just like what Win2000 users had to do with the previous DST patch (KB931836). If you do Google or Yahoo searches for Win2000 KB931836 you'll find a few sites that have the Win2k SP4 edition of KB931836.
  4. thanks. I'm now downloading the USP-5.1.2195.24-REFRESH.ZIP file with Shareaza instead of using uTorrent and I'm getting better connections and better download speeds than I did yesterday. Shareaza rules!!!
  5. I take that back. the XP driver file AL1916W.INF may work under Win9x/2000 systems without modifying it. it's just that the INF file is only "signed" or WHQL logo'ed for XP. Contents of the al1916w.inf file: ------ ; AL1916W.INF ; ; This is Setup information file for monitors ; ; Copyright © 2005, Acer [Version] signature="$CHICAGO$" Class=Monitor ClassGuid={4D36E96E-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Provider=%Acer% CatalogFile=AL1916W.cat DriverVer=08/08/2005,1.00 [ControlFlags] ExcludeFromSelect.nt = Monitor\ACRAD52 ;[ClassInstall32] ;AddReg=ClassAddReg32 ;[ClassAddReg32] ;HKR,,,,%MonitorClassName% ;HKR,,Icon,,"-1" ;HKR,,NoInstallClass,,1 [DestinationDirs] DefaultDestDir = 11 ; AL1916W.CopyFiles = 23 [sourceDisksNames] 1=%Disk1%,,, [sourceDisksFiles] AL1916W.icm=1 [Manufacturer] %Acer%=Acer [Acer] %AL1916W%=AL1916W.Install, Monitor\ACRAD52 [AL1916W.Install] DelReg=DEL_CURRENT_REG AddReg=AL1916W.AddReg, 1440, DPMS CopyFiles=AL1916W.CopyFiles [DEL_CURRENT_REG] HKR,MODES HKR,,MaxResolution HKR,,DPMS HKR,,ICMProfile [1280] HKR,,MaxResolution,,"1440,900" [DPMS] HKR,,DPMS,,1 [AL1916W.AddReg] HKR,"MODES\1440,900",Mode1,,"30.0-82.0,56.0-76.0,+,+" HKR,,ICMProfile,0,"AL1916W.icm" [AL1916W.CopyFiles] AL1916W.icm [strings] ;MonitorClassName="Monitor" Acer="Acer" Disk1="Acer LCD Utility Disk" AL1916W="Acer AL1916W" ------ The Signature="$CHICAGO$" line means it can be used under any 32bit version of Windows, so it may be safe to use it on other Windows versions beside XP. See this Drivers DB site: http://driversdb.com/device.php?id=41800 The OSes the INF driver support are Win95, 98, 2k, ME, XP & 2003. Note that if you use an Nvidia Geforcefx5200+ graphics card with the Acer AL1916W monitor, do NOT set the screen resolution to 1440x900. your screen could look blurry with that configuration. many graphics cards do NOT support the 1440x900 screen resolution. see here: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Video-Card-Prob...200-acer-AL.htm
  6. does this still work? I've been trying to download this using uTorrent and I'm getting nothing (no response). I wonder if RyanVM can make a FAQ page about his Torrents site. I'm kinda new on this Torrent stuff
  7. Replace Q828026 with Q832353 as Q832353 fixes some "script" problems found in Q828026. use WindowsMedia-KB832353-ENU.exe instead
  8. And why not you? I've tried oa2k.dll from VB6-KB924053-x86-ENU.exe (update for 2000) and it seems to work. I'm no longer using any Win9x OSes on any of my home PCs, Tihiy. they all have WinXP. and my cousin's PC now has Win2k instead of Win98se [he wanted W2K in the first place anyway]. soon I'll be upgrading my aunt's Dell PC from Win98 SE to Win2000 SP4. try surfing the net with IE6 with oa2k.dll on your computer Tihiy and check if things work all right.
  9. where art thou now, MDGx? haven't heard from you for at least two weeks now. new security patches have been released including new WMP security patches for WMP 7.1, 9.0, 10 & 11 and an OLE Automation oleaut32.dll security fix. can you try using oleaut32.dll v2.40.4531.0 on your 98se machine to see if it works correctly?
  10. I had a simliar problem when I manually started the Network list service and got the "error 1450 insufficient resources" error message, even though my mom's Dell laptop with preinstalled Vista Home Basic edition had 1Gb of RAM installed. Recently I had to reinstall Vista by using the Vista Home Basic DVD and choosing the Upgrade option just to fix that problem and the WMI "access denied" problem. seems like I had some missing or corrupted WMI components on my mom's Vista laptop. now the Network List service works properly and I can see stuff in the Network and Sharing Center window. when all other methods fail, reinstall Vista by using the upgrade option in Vista setup (yes, you can upgrade Vista on top of Vista!). Don't bother using the new Vista Startup Repair tool because it fails to detect the network list problem (I tried that and Startup Repair did not find the problem at all). just reinstall Vista on top of Vista by using the Upgrade option in setup and you will not lose your personal files and Vista activation status.

    BCOD

Btw, are these tests compatible with Vista? Memtest should work fine under Vista if you can boot from a bootable CD that loads Memtest. Download the Memtest ISO image and burn it onto a CD or DVD at one of these sites- MemTest86+ http://www.memtest.org/ original MemTest86 http://www.memtest86.com/ Prime95, on the other hand, may or may not work under Vista so follow the directions from this page: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
  12. Thank you for the link. But why is the link not from microsoft, don't they provide download for their own hotfixes? not all of them, martins. some hotfixes like KB931619 you have to ask from Microsoft support either by phone or email. other MS hotfixes might be posted at the MS download center. I used to email MS support for certain hotfixes a few years ago. I'll bypass KB931619 since I don't have this problem on my mom's Vista laptop; I'll wait for SP1
  13. not going to happen. in one word: NEVER! NT4 is a lousy OS for gaming since most games made now will never work under NT4 with its shoddy directx support I will say after using NT4 Workstation edition on an old PC, it's a pretty reliable OS, after SP6a is installed that is (AND if you completely figured out how to setup and install NT4; NT4 is almost difficult to setup and a lack of the Add New Hardware wizard in NT4 made setting up hardware a challenge) When NT4 first came out in late 1996 it was a horrible, unstable OS. It took MS at least three SPs to flush out several crucial bugs in NT4 to make it usable and more stable. I wonder, what is the reaction of NT4 users of microsoft cancelling the release of NT4 SP7. Has anyone tried to start an unofficial NT4 SP7 project?
  14. no prob, atyndall. note that you need to have "administrative" rights to perform this trick.
  15. Gran Paradiso (Firefox 3) alpha 7 now available: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/3.0a7/releasenotes/ the next major version of Seamonkey (2.0) will also be using the Gecko 1.9 runtime. I may be testing the alpha versions of seamonkey 2 later this month.
  16. Guys, take a look at this Bink.nu article: http://bink.nu/Default.aspx?ArticleID=10601 Send your hotfix request by going to this MS support page: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus2/em...0&WS=hotfix
  17. XP does support 64bit CPUs, BenoitRen. MS made 64-bit editions of WinXP designed for 64bit processors. weren't you paying attention or you just didn't realize that MS made 64bit versions of XP. see here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/default.mspx
  18. though I have Mcafee VirusScan 7.03 Professional which bundles QuickClean Lite version 2.04. QuickClean Lite also works good on my machines. ditch Norton's buggy CleanSweep program for McAfee's QuickClean app
  19. undertoe, there are no intel gma900 series drivers for win98/me because intel did not make any Intel basically dropped win98/me support in the 900 series graphics chipsets consider using the intel 800 series graphics cards or upgrade to win2k or xp

  21. juni, are you using windows 98 first edition (4.10.1998) or windows 98 second edition (4.10.2222)? right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and choose Properties to determine the version of Win98 being used
  22. see if the VLC Media Player FAQ has a solution here: http://wiki.videolan.org/Frequently_Asked_Questions
  23. that's sure appalling to win98/me users for Lexmark to remove their win98/me printer drivers off their site but at least you can now find many Lexmark printer drivers posted at Driverscollection.com and OpenDrivers.com web sites fortunately, I still have the Lexmark printer driver CD for my Lexmark AIO X7170 series printer which has the drivers for Win98, 2000, ME & XP
  24. I find that hard to believe and I find these comments to be DOWNRIGHT CYNICAL of you, marxo! Don't you even use an ACPI based machine, huh!! :realmad: I can tell from REAL experience that these ACPI based computers that I use are quite reliable and can handle both Standby and Hibernate power management features very well. That's NOT the point, man! Win2k/XP provides support for ACPI power management, they don't necessarily have to be only ACPI-based. There really is NO need to enable hibernate on existing 98se machines regardless of the PC uses the older APM standard or the updated ACPI standard. most 98se users do not really need the hibernate option. Win98 SE simply has limited power management options compared to the options found in Win2000, ME, XP, 2003 and Vista.
  25. the WinME version of movie maker IS POC (piece of crap) but the XP edition version 2.1 of movie maker is somewhat an improvement there are 3rd party movie maker apps out there that are better than windows movie maker Bad news Win2k users: XP system restore does NOT work under Win2000 as I've tested it myself, despite using the tips found at the win2k3.msfn.org site don't bother using the ME system restore under Win2k either as that won't work. consider using tools like Norton GoBack, Recovery Genius or VCOM Recovery Commander. these tools are far better than system restore
