Service pack for Windows 98 Standard (First, Gold)
erpdude8 replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
hi stuck. installation sequence makes little or no difference whether you install the 98fe SP first or last or even in the middle. -
fdv, the unofficial DirectX5 files for NT4 are packaged in the nt4dx5.zip file. You can find a copy here: http://gruppo3.ca.infn.it/download/windows...inNT/nt4dx5.zip and here: ftp://ftp.csie.nctu.edu.tw/pub/WindowsNT/DirectX/NT4DX5.ZIP or do a Google or Yahoo search for the nt4dx5.zip file.

hey lucky lexonex. Check out v6.10.6033.2 of the IDT/Sigmatel HD Audio drivers from Intel's AUD_allOS_6033.2_PV_IDTGUI_v124.exe package released in mid-August. I checked the stwrt.inf and stwrt64.inf files and they still contain the hwid "FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7682&SUBSYS_107B4044" on there. For Vista users using IDT/Sigmatel 92xx audio hardware on some PowerSpec desktop computers (which use Intel motherboards), the AUD_allOS_5790.3x_5713.7v_PV_IDTGUI_v83.exe package which contains v6.10.5713.7 of the IDT/Sigmatel audio drivers for Vista SP1 will do nicely. For those using IDT/Sigmatel 92xx audio on certain NEC Versa laptops like L2100, E6200, E6210 (original Vista Sigmatel HD audio drivers were 6.10.5274.0 and may not work correctly with Vista SP1. NEC has not posted any updated Sigmatel HD audio drivers at all on their support sites to support Vista SP1, shameful!) or Packard Bell's EasyNote GN45 series laptops (which also originally use v6.10.5724.0 of the Sigmatel HD audio drivers; Packard Bell also has not offered Vista SP1 ready Sigmatel audio drivers on their support site...pathetic!) and need Vista SP1 compatible drivers, use the D20253-001-001.exe package from the Gateway support page which contains Sigmatel 92xx audio drivers v6.10.5713.0 and may work with those NEC Versa & Packard Bell GN45 series laptops. Sigmatel HD Audio chips on those NEC Versa/Packard Bell GN45 laptops are using a hardware ID number beginning with "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690"

More new Sigmatel/IDT Audio drivers posted on the Dell Support site. Just type in "vista sigmatel" or "idt audio" on the search box on the Dell support site and you will find some new drivers. R190517 (Sigmatel STAC 92XX HD Audio version 6.10.0.5866) - released Oct. 21; for Dell XPS M1530 laptop and other Dell laptops. also contains the Array Mic drivers from R167846 & R171786 as I checked myself R190321 (Sigmatel STAC 92XX HD Audio version 6.10.0.6017) - released Oct. 21; only for Dell XPS/Dimension 430 desktop computer with a qualifying "hardware id" number of "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7674&SUBSYS_102802AE"

what version of WinGroove are you trying to install under Vista? Version 0.A4 Beta 2? Forget about v0.9E and earlier as those won't work under Vista for sure. Try setting the setup program's compatibility mode to XP SP2 and then try running Wingroove setup in Vista again. Update: I've just installed WinGroove 0.A4 Beta 2 English on Vista Home Basic, running the WG0A4_E.EXE file in Windows XP SP2 Compatibility mode, rebooted Vista and Wingroove worked great. However, there are no options in Vista to configure MIDI devices, so if you want to set Wingroove as your default MIDI device, create the following registry entries, save them as REG files and import the REG files in Vista. Save the file below as wingroove-midimap.reg (without the dashed lines) --- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\MIDIMap] "szPname"="WinGroove (NT)" "RelativeIndex"=dword:00000000 "DeviceInterface"="" "SetupPreferredAudioDevicesCount"=dword:00000000 "UseScheme"=dword:00000000 "AutoScheme"=dword:00000000 "CurrentInstrument"="WGDRVR32.DLL<0000>" --- Save the file below as midimap1.reg (without the dashed lines) --- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Midimap] "Mapping Name"="Sound System" --- Update II: I have also tested the Japanese edition of Wingroove 0.A5 by setting the WG0A5.EXE file to XP SP2 compatibility mode in Vista, ran that file and installed it on Vista. Worked great.

To prevent SFP from loading on WinME startup, use the MSCONFIG tool and uncheck the *Statemgr entry, click OK to save changes and restart WinME. That basically shuts down SFP entirely. Still no response from the_guy. It looks like the ME service pack project is now on hold.

Unofficial Windows 95 Service Pack Availability?
erpdude8 replied to lightninglord2000's topic in Windows 9x/ME
This topic is now dead. First beta of the Win95 OSR2 SP is listed here: http://www.msfn.org/board/Unofficial-Windo...ck-t124074.html Betas & RCs will be mentioned in the new thread. Final release coming in mid January 2009 & will have its own topic. -
you may want to check with the Ninja Trader support forum site and post your installation problem there: http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/vb/index.php

totally, NOT, D_block! Win98 and WinVista are totally different OSes. I have a Dell E1405 laptop w/ pre-installed Vista home basic edition (now updated to SP1) and connected a 4Gb Sony MicroVault USB Flash drive and the usb flash drive worked flawlessly.
-
I'd go with Vista Home Basic edition with SP1. don't bother with the higher editions of Vista as they can take up more disk space and run a bunch of non-essential Vista services that can slow your computer down. Then do what dale said and use VLite.

Windows XP Post SP3 Security Updates + IE7 and WMP11
erpdude8 replied to spacesurfer's topic in Windows XP
You may want to add KB938127 V2 for IE7 to your IE7 updates list, spacesurfer. The original IE7 KB938127 vgx.dll patch could not install under XP SP3 and only installed under XP SP2 but Microsoft issued a revised patch in late August to correct the problem. Get the revised patch here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en -
KB938127 for IE7 was revised late August 2008 to make it install under XP SP3. I have at least one non-critical, non-security hotfix for XP SP3 on my XP machine. KB951126: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951126/en-us

final build of WinXP SP3 is 5.1.2600.5512 first posted in early May 2008, windozer

@Gape New GDIPLUS.DLL MS08-052 KB938464 security updates have been released. I have version 5.1.3102.5581 of the GDIPLUS.DLL file which should work with Win98se. Let me know if you need it in the next beta or RC release of the 98se service pack. The old GDI+ redistributable download is no longer available and Microsoft has posted a new GDI+ redist package which requires Win2000 or higher to view its contents and/or extract its files. -erpdude

Did you install the latest HTML Help update, shae? Try MDGx's unofficial HTML Help update which has the latest HHCTRL.OCX file: http://www.mdgx.com/files/HHUPD.EXE A MUST when installing the latest available cumulative IE6 security update.

Usb Storage Driver pack for Windows 95
erpdude8 replied to PassingBy's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I think you are much better off using Nathan's USB Storage drivers for Win95 and ditching PassingBy's USB Storage driver pack, BenoitRen. I've tried using PassingBy's USBSTR95 pack with a Sony Microvault 4GB USB Flash drive I bought back in late July and the drivers won't recognize it. So I remove them and used Nathan's usb storage drivers and those drivers worked with the Sony Microvault 4Gb USB Flash stick. Still, the IOMagic datastation device [which is a multi-card reader usb device] doesn't work with either Nathan's USB Flash driver or PassingBy's USB Storage driver pack. no big loss though. So I now give PassingBy's Win95 USB Storage Driver pack a grade of D+. NO uninstall option to remove those drivers is another reason why I gave it a low grade. -
98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
NO! using Win2k/XP or higher editions of these files can put a Win98 machine out of commission and you could end up messing up your Win98 system or cause it to have crashes with crucial programs. NOT a good idea. MDGx seems to be behind with the latest IE and OE updates. Latest IE update is KB953838, latest AKB (activex killbit) update is KB953839 and latest OE update is KB951066. I'll be waiting for unofficial 953838, 951066 IE6/OE6 updates to be produced. Also, new GDI+ 5.1.3102.5581 (MS08-052) redist pack: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en (Old GDI+ Redist pack "gdiplus_dnld.exe" no longer available at Microsoft site) Reading the quote from MDGx's HOSTS page: http://www.mdgx.com/hosts.php currently you will have to email MDGx for the HOSTS files, Drugwash. erpdude -
sorry I didn't post back a few months sooner. I've been very busy for several weeks now. And the OEM CD Key worked with the slipstreamed Windows XP SP3. note that I used a tool called Autostreamer to do the sp3 slipstreaming with the XP OEM home ed. CD. I seem to have great success with it. Do Google or Yahoo searches on "Autostreamer", download it and use it to slipstream XP SP3 with your XP CD.

Service pack for Windows 98 Standard (First, Gold)
erpdude8 replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
The addons that are included in the full edition of 98fe-sp2 like DirectX7, WBEM/WMI 1.5, MDAC 2.5 SP3, etc. These are left out in the lite edition of the service pack. erpdude8 replied to PassingBy's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
MSFN forum topic link outdated and no longer working. Use this for now: http://www.msfn.org/board/Usb-Storage-Driv...95-t109521.html I'll give the USB Storage driver pack for Win95 OSR2.x a test drive on my cousin's emachine computer this week since it has two usb ports. -
Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers
erpdude8 replied to maximus-decim's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Hi PassingBy. The link to "post $350" is no longer working. I've just received my cousin's old eMachine computer that has built-in USB ports [one in front and one in the back of the PC] and will test out your NUSB98FE package I obtained from MDGx's web site. I'll have to install the Win98 FE OS and the Intel chipset drivers before I proceed with NUSB98FE. -
Check out this July 7 Bink.nu article titled "Why I Still Use Windows 95" http://bink.nu/news/why-i-still-use-windows-95.aspx looks like there are a few others out there still using Win95 OSR2 in today's world

98SE2ME = Killer Replacements: ME -> 98 SE
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
MDGx, is there any chance you can add the WinME edition of the MSIMG32.DLL file [v5.0.2218.1] into the 98SE2ME pack? The WinME version of MSIMG32.DLL is needed to run Opera browser 9.50 & higher reliably under Win98se. -

I couldn't run CHKDSK /R on any attempt, wildbill411. The unmountable_boot_volume message appeared even before I loaded the XP recovery console from either the XP boot disks or the XP CD. That means I can NOT access CHKDSK at all and have no chance of doing a repair on the hard drive. The specific unmountable_boot_volume message on my bro's XP laptop was like this: STOP 0x000000ED [0x85B3BB20 0xC000009C 0x00000000 0x00000000] Anyway I recently resolved the problem using SpinRite. Loaded the Spinrite boot disk onto the laptop (and ran Spinrite at Level 2) which found and fixed the flawed hard drive sectors and recovered critical data on them. Then after Spinrite was done, I booted up the XP laptop as normal and the unmountable_boot_volume message went away. But I did run CHKDSK /R after XP loaded normally and CHKDSK also found and fixed some more hard drive problems. Notice that I mentioned "0xC000009C" as part of the unmountable_boot_volume error. Do a Google or Yahoo search on 0xC000009C and you will see that this "status code" indicates a "bad block" or bad sector and will need to be fixed using either CHKDSK /R or a more powerful disk checking tool like SpinRite.
