It's possible, but I don't recall anyone attempting it. I would think there should be a way to just change the address pointer in the program itself (by brute force of course). But I would like to say as well that it was a bit of a pain that this happened. I loved listening to KeepFreeMusic, the 60s oldies radio channel through WMP and even though you can still stream on their own site, it's just not the same. I'm going to build on what was already said here. While I applaud your efforts of trying to use Windows NT 4.0 in this day in age, there are so many limitations that make is almost undesirable to use. My biggest problem with it is the fact that DirectX isn't very uptodate on it at all. I know at one point someone ported DirectX 5 to it but that's still quite old and not very useful. The fact that it also can't use any real modern browser is also quite a pain. If there was more interest in using NT, it probably wouldn't be that much harder to create a KernelEx for it like BWC has done for Windows 2000. But like I said, I'm sure the reason nobody has done this is because not many people seem interested in using NT4 for much anymore which actually is sad because the OS is pretty rock solid. But in this stage of the game, I guess it really comes down to what you want to do with this machine. If it's just to play with/experiment, just go for it and see what you can come up with. But mostly NT4 is really only useful for playing music, possibly watching older/common format videos. NT4 wasn't designed to be a gaming machine which is why DirectX is pretty much absent and I'm assuming business applications weren't so reliant on DirectX like they can be these days.

So, on my vacation to Philadelphia to see my fiancee, we decided to stop at Dave and Buster's for some fun. Although, they weren't without their problems as well...

Okay, so today I was finally pushed over the edge. Why is everything putting "HD" in its title now? First it started out with Oxi-Clean Laundry Detergent which their new stuff lists itself as HD. Now this morning I saw a commercial for Crest toothpaste, which now it identifies itself as HD. So, just exactly how much more "High Definition" can you get than real life itself? If anything, I truly find these HD titles to be totally bogus. What's next? Bacon HD? Chevrolet Malibu HD? Just slap on an HD at the end and it automatically becomes better!

It's been a while ago since I've even played around with Virtual PC but it seemed to me that I did try Windows 95 on 2007 and even if I got past the installer, something didn't work right. I know Windows NT 4.0 works fine on 2007 though, at least, I'm pretty sure it did, but either way it's a totally different beast. But I do remember trying VPC 2004 for a certain incompatibility but I was trying out all sorts of OSes like WinNT 3.5 and the like.

Generally speaking, it's a gray area to record internet streams for your own use. Most of the time it's illegal and/or against TOS. It really depends on your country or service you're using. To start, you'll most certainly need to use a high capacity hard drive patch to utilize the full 160GBs of hard drive space which separate partitions will not fix and also the RAM patch in order to utilize that much RAM, otherwise your system will crash with an ironic out of memory error. But once you get through all those roadblocks, KernelEx will certainly be usable and although Jumper is working very hard on the project, it's nowhere near as good as blackwingcat's Windows 2000 KernelEx simply because Windows 98 doesn't work the same way as 2000 due to lack of instructions and other necessary components. But as I said, after you meet the above criteria, there's very little reason why it shouldn't work.

*Sometimes* pasting a dll with the correct entries will work, but often times than now, it'll start calling for even more entries simply because Windows 2000 doesn't have them in its system files. This is particularly true if you use dll files from Windows XP. If you can, use an application like dependency walker that'll tell you what extensions you're missing and post them here for blackwingcat. He might be able to add what you need to KernelEx as long as it doesn't require a bunch of different edits.

I've never had to do that, but glad you got it working! One of the main things I always do after a fresh Windows NT 4.0 install is update the service pack to the latest possible version. I think my server version comes preloaded with SP3 on it but I can't remember offhand.

You have the latest Service Pack installed, right? I believe you have to have at least 3 or 4 before IE6 will install.

Not to derail your thread but on this note, I actually use an 50GB SSD for my OS and a 250GB 7200RPM hard drive for my internal storage. Since I used Windows 2000 Advanced Server, even with an SSD it doesn't boot the fastest but when I'm in, applications usually start right up. MS Word 2000 is instant basically which is nice but I have to agree that they use those probably to make them cost effective since most laptops are very cheap these days.

If there are any incompatibilities, I think it'll be mostly with the chipset/video drivers. I can't say for sure since I'm not very experienced in the newer stuff but usually if you're going to have problems, that's one of the big ones that you'll have problems with, that and wireless LAN which can be quite picky sometimes too. Going from Windows XP to 2000 was generally a piece of cake since it runs off the same kernel and core so to speak, but since XP was the last NT5 and the switch to WDDM in Vista on up, that's where a lot of issues fall into. I've seen XP video drivers for video work on 7 (with limitations), but I don't think going backwards is easy if possible at all unless it uses the WDM driver type, which then you might have a chance. Incidentally, I can't believe that computers are still being equipped with 5400RPM hard drives, with today's large OSs, I'd never use anything less than 7200RPM.
