  1. Well, I use Safari 3.2.3 and sometimes I think that might be the culprit because when I close it out completely, I almost always get an error after the program closes. WMP10 used to work perfectly but lately when you go to play something, the music plays but then immediately some memory can't be read or written message comes up and clicking OK makes the program close. Other than that, I really can't think of anything else that really gives me trouble when using the wrappers.
  2. That's strange. I tried it in IE8 and this is what it says. The webpage "w2k.flxsrv.org" cannot be foundDNS error occurred. Server cannot be found. The link may be broken. I can't even ping it. D:
  3. I always use Ez Install, I've had major failures otherwise. In a VM test environment, the earliest KDW I have seems to work best, I think it's like v.82.
  4. After some testing, it seems that for some reason, it's KDW that's causing the problem. Everything runs fine until I start using it. It used to work fine but for some reason, it doesn't seem to like me anymore. Especially with WMP10, it used to work perfectly, now it crashes with some memory address can't be read or written or whatever.
  5. I can't seem to access the server that hosts KDW anymore. Seems like since April or May, I always get a page cannot be found and when I ask others for me, either they have a bad gateway error or similar. How can I download the future updates without having to use some fancy type of downloader?
  6. I'm really getting tired of this. Out of the blue for no reason at all it seems, when I'm running Windows 2000 Pro along with KernelEx v5 and KDW wrappers, things will be going fine and all of a sudden, I get this stupid NT Authority is shutting down the system. I'm protected with AVG and ran a scan and I was clean. Sometimes it doesn't show up for ages and sometimes it just shows up right away. More specifically it says, Error Code 128, Services.exe has terminated unexpectedly. When I Google it, I usually get results for Windows XP which I don't care about. Does anyone know how to get around this as there must be people who know how to. It never even used to be like, just recently. Is it possible that Microsoft plants a bug on your system that it detects as an old OS? Crazy idea, but sometimes I just wonder.
  7. Hi! I've been trying to find the answer to this question for years but nobody seems to know the answer. Is there a way to trick Office 2003 into thinking you're using a Luna style so that the toolbars in the program will be blue instead of gray or whatever color scheme you're using? It doesn't really bother me that much but it looks so awesome in Windows XP but it looks sorta blah in Windows 2000. Is there any type of registry hack or update or anything I can do to get that blue color scheme in Windows 2000? Thanks!
  8. Okay, I know I'm double posting but after working at it non-stop, I finally figured out how to install Windows Media Player 10 on Windows 2000 using blackwingcat's installer and without having to replace any system files. Hopefully it'll work out for anyone who has trouble with it like I have. Some of my steps might be redundant, but do them anyway to ensure a successful install. How to install blackwingcat's Windows Media Player 10 on Windows 2000 w/o replacing system files 1. Download the installation package from bwc's blog (found on the frontpage of this thread). 2. Download the API wrapper (of course). 3. Make sure Windows Media Player 9 is already installed on your system. 4. Run kdllinst.exe. 5. Select kernel32.dll, user32.dll, advapi32.dll, shell32.dll, uxtheme.dll, and maybe ws2_32.dll. I can't remember offhand if you needed the last file or not. 6. Set EZinstall location to x:\Program Files\Windows Media Player (x:\ is the drive Windows is installed on). 7. Not sure if this made a difference or not but make sure EZ KD Registry, SHFolderEXReg, Version Dsp, and not make .local are checked. 8. Click on the Ez Install button. 9. Start the mp10en2k4065.exe installer (or whichever version you might have). 10. Say yes to the mscrvt.dll upgrade and reboot the computer. 11. Now for what I did differently. Grab winzip from www.winzip.com (WinACE/WinRAR *might* work) 12. Instead of launching the file this time, right click on the file and select Open with WinZIP. 13. Extract the files to a folder on the desktop i.e. wm10. 14. Repeat steps 4-8 except this time set the EZInstall location to the folder on the desktop that contains all the Windows Media Player 10 install files. Click on Ez Install to install the files in the folder. 15. Open the wm10 folder on the desktop. 16. Locate and double-click the mp10PR2k.exe file to start the setup. (Do NOT NOT NOT click on setup_wm.exe, you'll only get error messages). 17. The installer should start and continue without any problems. I had a uxtheme.dll error once but setup still continued without any problems. 18. Open WMP10 and if you had a music database, it should upgrade it to WMP10. 19. You're done, (maybe). XD This is what worked for me. Some of my steps might have been redundant but it's what worked. Experiment and see what's needed and what's not. This method is a lot safer as you don't need to replace any system files at all. I've also got the Windows 2000 v5 kernel32.dll upgrade installed on my system. More than likely it's not needed but I haven't tested this method without it. So to anyone who has had problems installing this, hope this helps and good luck! I'm also working on installing Windows Media Player 11 on Windows 2000 and I've modified the installer however when the install begins, it keeps telling me that WMP11 is already installed and there's no update for my system so I'm looking for a way around that.
  9. Ah, thanks. This may be of some use to me. Long live Wayback Machine, huh? I know I'm a huge Zelda buff and was terribly disappointed when Zelda's Secret Ocarina was taken down but with Wayback, I can still view the site! =D
  10. Okay, so anyone who has ever used TweakUI for Windows XP knows that there's an option in there to make images in thumbnail view bigger, smaller, cleaner, and neater looking. I usually set mine up to 150 pixels and 100% image quality. However, in Windows 2000, thumbnails look kinda shotty and not so clean. Is there anyway to mock this sort of thing in Windows 2000 so we can take control of thumbnail views in Windows 2000? I like it since I have a lot of images that I need to compare easily and quickly without having to really open anything. Any input would be appreciated.
  11. Hi blackwingcat, I'm having problems with installing your Windows Media Player 10 for Win2k installation. I had it installed once before but I'm not sure what I did. I tried following the instructions on the first page of this thread. I launched the installer and it said it required msvcrt.dll upgrade and it wanted me to reboot, okay. I got that far. I then used kdllinst and checked kernel32.dll, user32.dll, shell32.dll, advapi32.dll, and uxtheme.dll. I made sure SHFolderEXREG was checked and clicked Start Setup. It told me the files were replaced and I needed to reboot, so I did. However, I got stuck in an endless loop because of a blue screen and I couldn't get back into Windows after that. What did I do wrong? I'd like to use WMP10 but I don't want to mess my system up trying it again unless I know what I'm doing.
  12. Hi blackwingcat! I haven't tried your software yet, I will do so soon. What I was referring to though was the Windows Media Center software that comes with Windows 7. If you copy the ehome folder which is located in C:\Windows\ehome and put it to a flash drive and copy it over to a Windows 2000 computer, it says its missing Encoding----Pointer. There was something in the middle of the two words but I can't remember offhand what they were. But I have a feeling if the kernel32 file was upgraded again, it's possible that WMC would run on Windows 2000. I don't know, I'm just guessing. But being able to install a DirectX package that originally won't run with the original kernel file with your upgraded one, I have a feeling this could have great possibilities to get things to run on Windows 2000 that was designed for Windows XP SP3 and higher.
  13. I just installed it on my Windows 2000 and because of it, I was able to install the DirectX 9.0c Jun 2010 package without any problems at all. I believe it relied on DecodePointer, which v2 doesn't fix but v5 does. I have a theory that if it was worked on a little more, that Windows Media Center for Windows 7 would run on Windows 2000, maybe. The error message was similar to EncodePointer that it was looking for in the kernel file but it wasn't that exactly. I can't remember offhand what it was. But I'm thinking this could lead to some great things soon. Great job, blackwingcat!
  14. Hi blackwingcat, I should've thought of that about Windows Media Player 11. I'm perfectly fine with Windows Media Player 10. I just don't know how to install it. I have the installer but I'm not sure how to replace the DLLs and since my internet connection doesn't like your blog (it just acts like your blog is non-existant), I can't really find detailed instructions. I saw a few of the pics in the beginning of this thread but it really didn't help me much. If you could post some basic instructions on what DLLs to replace, I'd appreciate it a lot. Something else that is irking me with Windows 2000 is the new Who Wants to be a MIllionaire SB game. It installed and runs on Windows 2000 but there's absolutely no sound that'll play. I know it heavily relies on .ogg format but I also noticed it relies on wmvcore.dll, another reason I want to try upgrading my WMP to a later version to see if it'll work. The game itself says it needs XP+ but I see no reason in the world why it isn't fully compatible with Windows 2000. The latest DirectX doesn't make a difference and as far as I know, it doesn't use any special sound effects.
  15. Hi blackwingcat! I finally got around to trying your solution to Safari and it works great! I haven't gotten any errors or having the system shut down on me. But now I know there's a way to install Windows Media Player 11 but I really don't know how to do it and have it work. Could you provide me instructions on how to get it going like you did with Safari? If not, I do have the Windows Media Player 10 installation but I can't remember how I got it working last time. For some reason, your blog always shows up as page not found on my connection so it's really hard to get the instructions on how to install that too. If I can get either of those working again, I'd be really happy. I really appreciate all your hard work, blackwingcat, you're awesome.
  16. Hi blackwingcat! First of all, thanks for all your good tips, it's nice being able to use my favorite OS a bit longer than Microsoft would like me to. XD Anyway, I forgot to mention that I'm using Safari 3.2.1, I'm not using the new 4.0 version as I don't care for it that much. I tried using the ws2_32.dll from the chrome installer but I can't get it deployed for some reason. Is it because I don't have Chrome installed? I rather like the only 3.x.x version of Safari and for the most part it seems to work but I still get that NT Authority crap and then it reboots my computer. Can you tell me step by step what I need to check in kdllinst and what files are needed to be installed? I get confused with RSA Registry, EZ KD Registry, SHFolderExREG and all that and I'm thinking I might be getting messed up with that. As for Messenger, I found out how to use the older versions so I can run the older version just fine. So I guess Safari is my biggest concern now as I almost hate IE now and FireFox isn't my favorite either. Chrome is okay I guess but I'd rather have Safari. Hi, SearanoX. What version do you use ws2_32.dll wrapper ? Chrome and Safari's webkit may crash without Chrome installer for Windows 2000 's ws2_32.dll. I'm really not sure offhand, but I know I used the latest stable release of KDW at the time. But I know for a fact I never tried the Chrome Installer. If I used that, would I have to move files myself or would the installer just install the file where I need it? Also, something else I ran into which is why I'm not using Windows 2000 anymore is I'd get a NT AUTHORITY error and my computer would automatically restart after one minute without any specific reason. Never thought of checking the log files as to why but I figured it might have to deal with Safari as that's when it usually occurred when I was using Safari. There's also one other thing I want to get working and at least when I browsed through this thread, I saw no instructions as to how to make Windows Live Messenger 2009 work on Windows 2000. I use it extremely frequently and saw that it's possible on your website to get it working. Any suggestions as to how to get it installed and running?
  17. Something else I've been wondering. Is it possible to install and run Corel VideoStudio X2 on Windows 2000 via DLL wrappers? It's another one of my frequently used programs and another thing preventing me from actually running Windows 2000 anymore. That and Windows Movie Maker 2.6. I've been able to install it somehow (but I can't remember what I did). But I can't save videos. I just get an "Error saving movie" error. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  19. I have Safari working well under Windows 2000, but it crashes instantly as soon as I try to download something. Why is this?
