That's a really good deal. I might buy a few if I get down to my Walmart and they have that going on. Even with internet storage (which I don't utilize anyway), I still like having local copies of my stuff so in case the internet were to go down or something. Flash drives are still very handy, especially for people like me who work on other peoples computers.

Windows 98SE would have no problem running on it. It might be slightly slower than say on a Pentium II, but it's more than equipped to handle it. Just make sure the hard drive is at least 2GBs in size so you'll have optimal room for anything else you'd like to go on the PC. It wouldn't even hurt to try and upgrade the CPU just a tad if the board will support it and it's not too expensive. Even if you could get a 166MHz or I think they made one as fast as 200 or 233, I'm not sure though. But you don't want to spent a lot on such a slight upgrade and you'd also want to make sure the old games don't actually require a slower CPU which those kinds do exist. But if you're anything like me, you want to upgrade the snot out of it just to get it to the most optimum performance possible and for the challenge of it.

Are you going to upgrade to Windows 10 before July, 29?
Tommy replied to Stefan43's topic in Windows 10
It would be foolishness for business consumers to upgrade to this "trash". As far as I'm concerned, it's designed to be kiddish feeling. But I want an OS that works, and works right, and is as simple as possible. But that's just my two cents on the matter. I think it's time to go back to Home Edition/Professional and drop all this other silly nonsense in-between versions. -

Tommy replied to Stefan43's topic in Windows 10
I gave Windows 10 more of a try, and I do have a version of Windows 7 that would qualify for the upgrade, but I'm just not impressed with it. To me, the simplicity of the PC is going away in favor of flashy and colorful eye candy. I will continue to use my Windows 2000 machine until it no longer serves my needs. But quite honestly, why can't an OS be secure and up-to-date, but still be as simple as 98/2000/XP is? -
https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php How about version 7.4.42? Archive.org looks like Windows 2000 support went well into the 2010s but if you want to test it and report back, we'll see where we have to go from there.

Welcome to MSFN, Mykel! We definitely hope that you find our community useful. If you have any issues with your PCs, feel free to post in the appropriate forums and they'll for certain be some experts ready to answer your questions.

There's really no difference in compatibility. It's just that the more advanced servers can handle more ram and more physical CPUs, that's about the only real benefit to using them. As far as hardware is concerned, they all use the same exact core so unless you have a need for more than 4GBs of RAM and more than 1-2 CPUs, then go with the server editions, otherwise just stick to professional.

Windows 9x w/ USB plugged in during boot hangs
Tommy replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 9x/ME
This sounds stupid, but dis it attempting to "boot" from any usb devices? I know if I leave a flashdrive in my one computers, it hangs. I didn't play with the BIOS but I'm sure that's what the issue is there. But I'd think the simplest thing would be to check that it's not attempting to boot from something. I don't see why it would, but sometimes technology is funny that way. -
Just for the nature of this thread, there's no reason to have this open. If you have a problem with Beta Archive and their policies, contact their staff about it. We can't do anything about it. Topic LOCKED

Welcome! I'm sure you'll find our community very inviting and informative. XP is still very much used by many people on this community but a few of us like den and I go back even farther to Windows 98. Either way, I'm sure you'll find lots of answers to many questions.

This is great! Finally a GOOD use for social media instead of just running down the US presidential candidates. -
Gah, how did I miss this? Take it easy, buddy. We all appreciate your work but we understand if you need to take it slow. Your health isn't worth pushing yourself over the edge. On the other hand, glad to see some progress is still being made on the project!

Unable to drag and drop any files?
Tommy replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I hear you, it's annoying to keep reinstalling over and over again. I hate to keep steering offtopic with this, but what kind of wireless adapter does your laptop use? As for recording software, try Bandicam. There's a trial version of it that works just fine with Windows 2000. At least that way I can sort of see what is going on. You didn't install a special touchpad driver, did you? -

Tommy replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Windows 2000 has been a bit funky on laptops for some reason, at least newer ones. Even though they're for the most part compatible with anything up to about 2009. Your problem though is a bit strange though, I've never heard of it doing something like that. Mine puts up a huge fuss when I use the wireless adapter for some reason even though it's absolutely compatible without unofficial updates, but once they're put on, it acts stupid. Is there a way you can make a video sort of showing this going on? -
Absolutely, it's a game of monopoly. I don't use that site though since I think people share too much online now as it is but it's not totally surprising since it seems like a few companies are the ones calling all the shots and buying up everything they can.

Here's a little background on my user title, I met my now fiancee Brooke on Bulbagarden. We do see each other about once a year or so but we're hoping soon to actually close the distance permanently.

I don't join many forums anymore. I used to back in the day. I was a Pokemon fan back in the day as well so I bet I joined about 3 non-popular ones and one high profile one. I've also joined several ToZ of forums which I'm still a fan of the series to this day obviously. Then here. I've been a mod and admin at several of them as well. And for a few years I owned my own vBulletin forum which I ran and had a few friends as admins as well until we just let it go since it wasn't getting the traffic anymore like it used to.

I had no problems with Professional and I do have my settings jacked up, in fact I even lowered it to see if it would solve anything, it doesn't. I'm using the same driver as I do with Pro as well, it's 175.86 (guessing) with an NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT 256MB of RAM. The Pro version never had issues like this but this is on the very same computer so that's what has me scratching my head and thinking that there's something in the OS that's going haywire.

This might be a long shot since I don't think many use Advanced Server, but I'll give it a shot. Why is it that sometimes it has trouble drawing windows correctly? Corel VideoStudio sometimes comes up with no text or buttons. Goldwave sometimes has trouble drawing the wave file correctly, and sometimes gets stuck if you resize the window, it'll still play but it won't display correctly. Sometimes certain parts of the window just disappear completely for no reason at all. Fast Stone Image Viewer fails to draw pictures correctly sometimes as well. This seems to happen particularly when I have Palemoon open with Facebook loaded. Any ideas why this happens? More info will be given if needed.

So the real question is, why did they "vanish" for so many years? -
This is exactly what I do truthfully.
