  3. USP5.2 isn't done yet, no. tomasz86 is slowly getting it together but he has a very busy schedule himself so it's been a slow process. But I would recommend downloading his HF_SLIP packages and integrate them into a Windows 2000 installation CD, that will still get you quite up to date.
  4. This is probably an easy fix. I don't know if it's overlooked or intentional either but there's no way to view forum leaders. Even though there's only two "moderators" here, even clicking on the moderators link in the online taskbar, it doesn't tell people what forums we lead. There's no link on the main page, nor does it say in the forums themselves like the old version did.
  5. Donation posts in the donation forum seem to come up as "Guest" instead of you, xper. Is this intentional or a bug?
  6. I got the generic XP driver installed, doesn't *seem* to have any problems. But now I'm trying to install the software that goes along with it.
  7. Hey all, so I got a pretty darn good deal down at my local Goodwill store. A Canon Powershot SD880 digital camera. It's really not too shabby at all, especially for $8 which included a nice little carrying case. However, Windows won't detect a driver for it. Now, I don't believe this camera is too new. I have a Panasonic camera that works just fine under Windows 2000 and shows up as a drive. Going to Canon's site, there is no driver at all for this camera, but Windows 2000 will not detect even a generic driver for this camera so I cannot access it this way. I can put the memory card in my other camera but that is a tad inconvenient if I don't have to do that. Any suggestions?
  8. If it's for any other operating system besides Windows 2000, please make sure to post it in the appropriate forum otherwise those interested in the project might not see it here. Thanks.
  9. If there's anything else, just post it in this thread and we'll do our best to help!
  10. I know, I was just throwing it out into the wind though since it does cause problems once installed. Monitor is irrelevant. Tied thru the VGA (relevant). Older nVidia work fine (this one is Geforce4). Did you install the Chipset Drivers first? ALWAYS install them the very first thing before any other drivers! http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1845#sp Yes the first thing i did was install the chipset drivers when i was prompted to restart my keyboard and mouse froze, and i had no choice but to force restart from the case. Iam using PS/2 Mouse and K/B Are your chipset drivers really "required" for the machine to operate? I don't think I've installed real chipset drivers in such a long time. Most of the time, they aren't required for actual operation. I'm not really seeing what would cause an issue with this board.
  11. Even with that, sometimes Windows 98 still hangs on shutdown at times, this is like I said really true if you have an NVIDIA card but our awesome expert Rloew posted a fix for it here on MSFN. I'm not sure if he has an auto patch for it but I do know the fix he posted involves just a slight bit of hex editing which I'm really good at. What's funny with my recent machine that I built, usually Windows 98 would just hang at shutdown but this one would actually set off the system speaker and it would just continue to beep until it was shut off manually, and I don't mean just beep beep beep, it was beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, almost like if you held a key down on the keyboard and never let go of it. It was really the first time in a long time that something startled me because I wasn't expecting it to do that.
  12. I wouldn't trust any other brand, penesamig is king!
  13. So I go into work and find a package of these sitting on my desk... https://dezoito55.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/penesamig.jpg It really puts my mind at ease that for all our high end electronic devices, that we have a set of high quality, genuine, Penesamig batteries to go along with it!
  14. Usually this is a result of a later model NVIDIA graphics card being installed, but if you haven't installed one or the drivers yet, then I'd suggest looking at making sure your system has the proper updated files since Windows 98 SE had shutdown issues that were addressed by Microsoft themselves.
  15. Currently working on modding The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.

  16. I'm using an NVIDIA Quadro FX1500 with 256MB of RAM. Works great! I got mine really cheap as well. If it has a super loud fan on it though, there is a BIOS update from HP for free that fixes this problem.
  17. And that is exactly why, I do not own one of those retched things. I actually do reluctantly have a very cheap Tracfone now that I only use on large trips...but it's not attached to my name or anything. But the sheeple love their mobile toys so they won't ditch them, they'll just complain that they're being tracked instead of just getting smart and getting rid of those things. And these billboards...are those those ones that change on their own because it's some sort of display panel? How do those work? I can only imagine how much electricity it consumes if it doesn't use solar energy...
  18. It's not listed on the NVIDIA site as a Windows 2000 driver, but try driver package 175.16. I like it and that's what I use. I would think though that you should get it working even with those early drivers. You may have to do this if you install this package. Right click on the NVIDIA icon in the systray, go to nview display settings, dualview, and then it might say something to the effect of install dualview. Reboot. Once you log in it should detect your secondary dualview device and install the driver, then reboot again. Now you should be able to go dualscreen like you would in Windows Me (which is the same procedure as in WIndows 2000). Make sure you say expand your desktop on monitor 2 though, otherwise I believe it'll just be mirrored, I've never tried it another way.. I don't know about stretched though. I never had that issue. I use an NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT on my Windows 2000 machine. What driver packages have you tried so far? I usually don't get a lot of good results with other ones except the 175.16 package. As for anti-virus, I really don't use one. I use MalwareBytes and Advanced System Care to keep my computer clean and so far I haven't had any trouble. AVG9 Free should work with Windows 2000 as long as you don't use KernelEx which breaks something when it updates to the latest virus definitions for some reason. I don't use Windows Me, but if you use KernelEx for Windows 98/Me, you can install up to Firefox 9 without too many issues (except for printing), I use Firefox 9.0.1 on my Windows 98SE machine. Firefox 10 and 11 don't work well for me, plus I'm not fond about how it like to cut a letter off on your typed address, not sure if it was ever fixed by anyone or not though. Also, a friendly reminder that when you make new threads, try to be descriptive in the thread title what your problem is so it'll grab the attention of others a bit easier and get you answers faster.
  19. People are easily spoonfed. It's so pathetic to actually read certain forums or news articles where people still use Windows XP and some of the replies they get.... So, like if someone were to ask a question about Windows XP this day in age outside of MSFN or the like....what would be your typical answer be? "Oh! Time to upgrade! Be a part of this decade! :D" Because Microsoft tells you that Windows XP is no longer secure, then obviously that *must* be true, right? I've noticed performance hits when applying patches in the past. My theory is, everytime you install a new patch, a new script and backup is created. So if you install 100+ fixes...that's like a ton more entries into your system, it's more to keep track of. Now I'm not quite sure how Windows Update works when you install automatically that way, but I'm assuming it too goes into the $NTUnInstall$ folder. It's just more junk in the trunk really. I don't keep track of Windows 8 but with Windows 7, I think it's absolutely crazy that they don't at least create some sort of rollup if they're too lazy to make another service pack for it instead of having individual updates like this. But I certainly agree that it creates a lot more overhead and slows down your system. Heck, it's even felt on a lower end system and Windows XP. Even if you keep up disk maintenance, all those updates slow the system down anyway. But yeah, going back to people saying you must upgrade because it's new and you're told it's better, hogwash. Unless you're a real literate programmer, how do you really know what these "updates" are fixing in the first place. At least with Windows Vista and up, it started giving descriptions right in Windows Update but regardless, how many vulnerabilities are there leftover from previous operating systems? If anything, I believe that older operating systems will become more secure as less people are focusing on attacking them. As for Windows 8, it's probably going to be more secure simply because it wasn't well received, even with the 8.1 update and most people just jumped from 7 to 10. But that's just my two cents. (:
  20. I've never had problems using a 450watt power supply, even with a GeForce 8600GT, so you should be good to go as long as you have something close to that.
  21. He doesn't have a SATA demo patch available though, so you'll have to contact him directly in order to purchase it.
  22. This was exactly the problem I was having, I had the screen that would freeze and have a blinking underscore. I ultimately had to get the SATA patch from Rloew to have perfect compatibility. But if you go into safe mode, go to my computer and right click on it, go to properties, click on performance, file system, troubleshooting, and the check disable 32-bit protected mode disk drivers. Hit okay and reboot. That way you can at least boot into normal mode but your disks will be in compatibility mode meaning it'll be slower and a little less stable, but it works. But as Jaclaz said, the SATA patch will solve the problem and $11 is a small price to pay for SATA support. Also, vnetbios.vxd I believe is related to your network adapter. Once you get everything sorted out with having SATA support, remove the network driver by uninstalling the device from device manager and try reinstalling it. That should make the problem go away as it'll ask for your Windows 98 disk and recopy necessary files when you go to reinstall the driver for the device. What I'd recommend is if you get your CD drive working (SATA patch will fix that too if applicable), copy your Windows 98 disk files to the C:\Windows\System\Precopy folder, that way it'll be easier to fetch files from it, even in DOS mode where your CD drive may or may not work.
  23. I use a TV as a monitor, it's a 32 inch Toshiba LCD and I've never noticed that problem. Although I would recommend sitting a bit further away because it'll hurt your eyes after a while if you're too close. But I've never noticed any pixelation or other strange occurrences. The only thing is, you can't have a small resolution on it. So for example, you can crank up a 20inch monitor to 1680x1050 or whatever it is...but with such a big TV, like mine, it only goes up to 1360x768. So that's a bit of a drawback if you're looking for using a higher resolution.
  24. As far as new goes, I'd go with this GA-790FXTA-UD5 because it has many expansion slots since most of the onboard stuff won't work so you'll have lots of room to play, but MAKE SURE you have a full ATX case available so that you don't buy the board and it won't fit. As Rloew said, DualBIOS is only a disaster backup so it doesn't affect operation. I've had two DualBIOS boards but never needed the feature yet. The one thing I don't like is how AMD generally takes more power than Intel. My motherboard before this took AMD so I ran an Athlon 64 x2 5000+ which didn't seem to work quite good with Windows 7, even though I primarily used it for Windows 2000. But it's up to personal preference. The board said it'd take a Phenom II X4 945 but it never did really work at all. Also, more RAM slots gives you more play for RAM expansion, especially if you have smaller modules available on hand. Anyway, with that board, I can't guarantee that you could get away with not using the SATA patch, I haven't tried Windows 98 on newer motherboards like that. Not even on the ones I own so I can't tell you for sure...
  25. Okay, I see what you're saying. I'm going to break the links then since they don't actually lead anywhere and just leave the text address up for copying. Edit: Done. Now the full address will appear. I removed the http:// since that will continue to trigger a hyperlink but testing it in archive.org, it's not necessary to have anyway.
