If it´s not Quake 4, Need for Speed Most wanted or Battlefield 2 then a PCI card will work, it´s just slower then a AGP card b/c of the PCI bus. But, the onboard isn´t good enough?

6600 in SLi isn´t so hungry , but yes, 100 bucks would be more likely but there are some options close to 50 bucks too...

Sempron64 2500+ : any idea how high it can be pushed up?
puntoMX replied to prathapml's topic in Hardware Hangout
Ah, okay, I don´t know about those "new" mobos with the 6100 Gf intergrated . What brand did you buy any way and what type? The BioStar? And how far could you go? I´m sure it isn´t your CPU, I had the first 2500+ that cam eout and they could get up to that 2200MHz... -
That’s just b/c of the CPU test in 3dmark, and it will not be that much of a boost just b/c of drivers . How much did you gain any way? I tested it when the x2 3800 came out so I can’t tell what the new drivers do . You also say that you are prepared for the future, but I think you will get your self a second job (if you already have one) and buy the newest technology by then. And I’m not talking about years, I know hardware freaks, as I am one of them, and the can’t do longer then a year with there new rig .

I OCed 600MHz celeron 2 CPUs at 1132MHz on CUBX motherboards from ASUS with aircooling and the CPU at 2.0v (high, I know, don´t try it directly ). I never tried a 1100MHz CPU, but it just depents on your mobo. So, the question is, can your mobo do it? What brand and type of mobo you have there?

Sempron64 2500+ : any idea how high it can be pushed up?
puntoMX replied to prathapml's topic in Hardware Hangout
The 2500+ I can get 1400@2200MHz or a bit more, just 5% more voltage. I use MSI K8N-NEO3 NF4 mobos and I can get the bus over 300MHz. The 2600+ I can get 1600@2500MHz or a bit more, same for the 2800+. I think the cores can get up to a 2800 or 2900 with the stock cooler, it´s just the mobo that can´t get much higher then a 300MHz bus. I hope this helps for you . -
Ripken, you think to much . Believe me, there is still no advantage of dual cored CPUs for games. Use google and you find out why. Before I was thinking the same like you, but tried it my self and I was surprised about the not optimal performance. And the price of a dual cored 2GHz CPU comes close to a single cored 2.4GHz CPU, giving you more benefits, believe me... For games the CPU speed is not that much of importance, just be sure to pick AMD b/c of 3Dnow!+ and since it has also SSE3, it will kick iNTELs a** any time B) .

What I do for my customers is to buy a new computerhousing, motherboard and a AGP video card. PCI video cards are an option but they lack b/c of performance of the PCI bus. Tell us please what kind of games will she play? Then we have an impresion what we can advice . EDIT: next time I will type faster, Simon your the man... B)
-
Okay, WAIT A MINUTE!, on what resolution are we playing these games? If you just play it on 1024*768 or 1280*1024 then why get the other 6600? For example, if you can sell the 6600 card for 80 US$ and the other 6600 will cost you 140US$ that’s 220US$ together. That comes close to a 6800GS that you can tweak over a 500MHz GPU and 1200 MEM, running almost as fast as a 6800Ultra, kicking a** of a 6600 SLI any time! And what I have to say about AA: AA at max is nice, but I never use it on my TFT screens, I don’t even notice it when I play Q4 or Battlefield 2 . EDIT: Forgot some thing, a good PSU will cost you 50US$ and up, so 220 plus 50 will be 270US$, there you go, you can buy a 6800GS B) ...

The X2 CPUs will give you not much more performance on games, I would go for a single cored CPU. You will save some money on that. More info you will find on the net, google a bit I would say .
-
You need to buy an external housing for that, like this: Vantec; NST-260U2-BK NST-260U2-BL NST-260U2-RD INFO

The GF7900 will be out soon, same as the ATi x1900, google for some nice information on those baby’s. Soon there only will be the: 6200 128/256 and even!!! 512MB (64 or 128 bits) 6600 128/256MB (DDR3) 6600GT 128/256MB 110n 6800GS 256MB 110n 7800GT 256MB 110n 7800GTX 256MB 110n 7900GT 256/512MB 90n 7900GTX 256/512MB 90n All other nVidia cards will slowly go to "end-off-sale" even the 7800GTX 512. Specs of the 7900 series are still not clear, just google on it and you will find different specs (leaked)... ** Forget this post, didn´t see the title, I thought we were talking about the 7800GTX 512
-
No idea on prices. best way is to google for it. I never saw them in stores or web-shops. Not in Europe, not in the USA and less here in Mexico (mexico su x when it comes to a nice peace of hardware).
-
Other brands too are busy making RAM-Drives. It will come out but when we still don’t know when. This is another brand: http://www.ddrdrive.com/ It is a PCI-E 1x card with max. 8GB DDR RAM. And then you have Cenatek Rocket Drive solid state disk... All these brands have announced them, but I never saw them sold any were.
-
For 650 CAD$ you will not find any thing better so don´t think to long about it. You can´t play games on it but it sure will be enough for other multimedia stuff / office / internet.
-
Also, look for the 128 bit version!, both the 6200 and 6600 have 64 bit versions that suck a** when it comes to speed. The difference between them will only be 20 CAD$ but when you play games it will be a bigger difference Give us the link from the store and the budged you have, we will help you out,..
-
Also you could try to put them on Cable Select (CS). Some BIOSes/mobos don’t like master slave jumpers that are set. Also I would blame the HP/Compaq mobo for not being compatible with a lot of hardware so try it in another PC (not HP/Compaq) before you RMA it. I hope this helps

problems with external hard drive
puntoMX replied to neiantrim's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Ticking sound could also be a heavy damaged drive too. Do you have warranty on the drive? If so return it, if not; open the external housing and take out the drive to test it inside a normal computer (unless it’s a 2.5", then you need to buy an adaptor from 2.5" to 3.5"). Good luck -
Wait, I see that 2x 1Gig isn´t that expensive any more... keep it in anyway Edit: okay, butget is a bit small for the new nVidia monster, so yes, a 7800GT(X?) would be nice too. Still running my old 6800LEs here, (unlocked all, Oced to 350/850 so it comes close to a 6800GT ) Other point here: the case is a bit cheap, thin 0.6mm galvanized iron... I would go for a better case, minimum a 0.8mm SECC steel case or an aluminium case... Do you want a window in it? Edit: Like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811125438 A good case, made out of 1mm SECC steel, you can make it look nice easely with neon and LED-fans. And what about the harddisk drives???
-
it´s easy to do, even your grandma can do it with a little help . the 4200 runs at 2.2GHz as far as I know, that´s just 200MHz more, lousy 10%... I run Sempron64 2500+ 1.4GHz@2.4GHz with stock cooling, just 8.3% more voltage (socket 754). Don´t be afraid... ow, and on tomshardware they have some new CPU charts, check them out ...
-
Okay, and do you want to hear from us what we think about it? 2GB of RAM, i would go for the GTX version instead of the 2MB RAM, you will not get that much performance out of your new rig, also, why not a X2 3800+ and kick the s*** out of it when OCing it , that would be cool, 2GHz up to a 2.4 or 2.6GHz . Other then that… NIZE!!! ps. Trow away the other 1Gig (of 2), take the X2 3800, and get your self a GTX 512 ...

You ask me were I buy my cases? Last time I went to McAllen, Texas; to expensive over there. I bought Artic Cooling cases with 350W active powersupply. http://www.arctic-cooling.com/pc_case2.php?idx=12 Like 156 US$ + tax over there, WAY TO MUCH, but they don´t sell s*** here in Mexico . Next time I go to Los Angeles and buy them for newegg prices (without shipping ofcoarse ).

qsi cdrw/dvd sbw242u Driver Problems
puntoMX replied to rebels_mascot's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
I would call DELL, they have more strange stuf when it comes to computers , like BIOSes that are not 100% and so. -
Remove all boot sectors
puntoMX replied to mentalindustrie's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Euhmm, I think we are talking about 1 bit here; yes or no bootsector? And you are talking about a FAT system too I think. I also have to dig deeper for that... Edit: Found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q140418/#X...122120121120120 But I would not worry about the bootsector, it´s just one sector with some bits set for bootsector or not ... And for sure only FAT like I thought... -
I don´t know about the X-Connect 500Watt power supply, but the specs look good to me, also cool wires B). The case you will get for free, so why look for other options, when it starts to look ugly just trow it and buy a better one. The problem is that TigerD. doesn´t have so much options but let me take a look at there shop again. I also don´t like new egg, they DON´T! send to Mexico,... well the same for TigerD.. Edit, one thing, the Ultra powersupply doesn´t have a 24 pin ATX hearder, some new boards need those, you can use an adaptor but it´s not the same as a real 24 pin hearder. This would be one of the best for it´s price powersupply: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...1565893&CatId=0 TigerD. doesn´t have so much good cases, i saw the (Chieftec) Dragon for 60 bucks or so in red, that one is one of the best cases I ever had, made out of 1mm SECC .
