  1. Yup, I'm in preparation of backing up everything, getting my to-do list all done, reformat, reinstall, re-configure, image the drive and then install Deep Freeze.
  2. OCZ 1GB PC3200 My girlfriend has the other 1GB... But to be honest, whether I'm playing Oblivion, HL2DM, editing in Premiere, multi-tasking, etc... I don't notice any performance decrease without the extra 1GB.
  3. Bill Gates posing as a female online... that gives birth to a whole new realm of spectulation.
  4. Yes i can do this by hand. But i see kids to work with nLite. Who dont know to delete some files, edit text files by hands. This is essence. You don't make a lot of sense...
  5. Well, it depends on what you want on your BootCD. If you only want to be able to delete some incredibly nasty spyware that won't delete, then you don't need much. If you want to run 10-15 applications from memory, that's a different story. By the way, for OS issues, I'd just recommend you image your HD with Acronis True Image when everything is ok, so you can revert to it when things get rough. Or use Deep Freeze to freeze the state of your HD and burn to CD/DVD / save to another harddrive when you don't want something erased from a reboot. Off-topic but just for reference.
  6. The best thing to do is is to actually look before asking. You may find WinDVD under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE or it may be the name of the company who develops it.
  7. What exactly do you mean? What I'm thinking about is when I used to use Windows 98 and had to boot from a floppy in order to reinstall the OS. With XP of course, no need for this. If you're referring to a custom CD/DVD of maintenance tools to boot from in case your harddrive goes haywire, well there are quite a few out there, some easier than others to set up. I just use a Winternals CD to boot from and perform basic tasks. Others use a UBCD, there's one Zxian mentioned to me called Reatego Builder also. Haven't tried that yet.
  8. Ripken, for someone with a custom user title of "The Hardware Guy", you need to give more obvious suggestions. There's more to problems than just temperatures these days... Anyway, that probably sounds a bit blunt, but it's true. My girlfriend's PC did the same thing when she played Sims 2 for 5 minutes. Turns out the RAM was bad. So run Memtest on your system to rule that out.
  9. I feel a ban coming up.
  10. I played it for about an hour and hated it. The weapons are too slow compared to enemy movement and it just sucks overall. SWBF1 was a lot better.

  12. Reformatting and reinstalling is such a waste of time now that I've become used to imaging software. Takes me 5-6 minutes to rollback to a perfectly working OS, no trouble whatsoever. I just can't watch it take over a hour to reformat and then another 20-30 minutes to install Windows, then 2 hours to install and configure everything. The only time I think I would bother to reformat is when I was creating a new image file from scratch. I'm kind of picky about what goes on in my registry.

    900MB install ?

My ISO with RyanVM Pack 2.1.0 and all drivers is about ~130 MBs. Nvidia Display Driver Service is not needed? That's included with TTS v0.2a isn't it?
  14. That's only a perspective or expectation, not a fact.
  15. Easy now, don't want to turn this topic into a war of the morals, rippy.
  16. Uhm, no. For a PC with all those components, $100 I think would barely get you a second hand laptop.
  17. The best burners are the Pioneer and Plextors, I think. NECs are also very good.
  18. 1. Install OS 2. Install all desired games and software 3. Configure everything to your heart's desire. 4. Create a backup image file with Ghost, Acronis True Image, or Unattended, depending on your level of knowledge. 5. Restore when necessary.

    Aveicon

Then reduce your image by 50% before using AveIcon on it.
  20. I suppose I shouldn't believe everything I hear...
  21. I think it just comes down to preference. I think the only advantage Acronis has over Norton that I know of is that Acronis can store the image file on a different partition made on the same HD, and Norton can't, so I've been told.

    900MB install ?

I run a pretty slimmed down install and have dozens upon dozens of programs installed, including some games and my Windows folder is about 450-500 MBs.
  23. Same here. I also plan on using DeepFreeze in the future so nothing quirky happens to my system over time.
  24. Is yours better than hp38guser's? Heh, I don't even know why I ask because I use 6.6.0.14 and never have any problems burning a DVD.
  25. *Agrees with Fly*
