Congratulations.

KaZaA is garbage! C'mon! Viruses and trojans! Are you for real? Torrents man, torrents!

I've actually found Diskeeper far more challenging to completely setup (normal and advanced options, including a schedule) than PerfectDisk. In all honesty, I think DK has more options, but PerfectDisk has more thoroughness/efficiency. I am referring to PD7 at the moment, not 8.

Attention All Defraggers - Raxco PerfectDisk v8.0.30 (Previous Version v7.0.46) (Scheduled for release on September 12th. Taken from this page on NeoWin. You can now do two things which are essentially the same as the Set-It-And-Forget-It feature of Diskeeper. - Set the fragment threshold to 0 so PD will always defragment your files when they become fragmented. - Use the AutoPilot Scheduling system to tell PD to defrag your files when you won't be at your PC. Note: More people have mentioned from experience how PD *really* does a *terrific* job of defragmenting files and making your PC run noticably faster after only one pass. Looking forward to this!

Post made it's own thread

Yeah, how many processes do you have running in Task Manager?
-
I used 1By1 for months, but it has stuttured playback during system load *even minimizing and restoring MSN causes this*. Also, random file change bug. I switched to Winamp and am very happy with it. NET Framework 2 is not evil. I have it installed and there is no negative effect to my system, the specs for which you can see in my signature. NET2.0 bashers are becoming very annoying, huh, Zxian? Also, as the "native alternative" you're referring to NTRegOpt? I use it and see nothing wrong with it. Can you backup your claims?
-
How did you get it to work?
-
Yeah, if you got a PC from someone else, I'd suggest reformatting and reinstalling Windows so it's all yours. Unless they have some files they left behind that are interesting, you could back those up and then reformat. Lol...

I tried doing the exact thing you're doing. I installed all the expansions and got everything in the registry from the Sims 2. The only thing that would work is if I installed all the expansions in the proper order and updated them in that order.

You have an old system and you don't use Tabbed Browsing... All of us now collectively run and hide.
-
Huh? A method of what? I was just showing the difference between the two browsers.

Well, personally if I was a newcomer in the world of web browsers, I certainly wouldn't rely on which became freeware first as my basis for decision between say Firefox and Opera. I have much respect for Opera over Firefox because Opera was payware and became freeware. That's a huge decision for a company to make. Using a browser because it is not currently being exploited is a trench to jump into for the time being, no question about it, but once these browsers become more popular, they will be exploited more. Even still, it is better to go with an alternative other than IE because even when new security flaws are found, it takes M$ a month to release a patch. It's ASAP with Opera. I also don't like that Firefox needs an extension just to use mouse gestures. Opera does this right out of the box. Anyway, that's my two cents.

Nothing wrong with that, bud.

I know this is an old thread but it's exactly what I need. I just did a side-by-side comparison of the latest versions of Opera and Firefox. To prove that I did this, here are the two images showing each browser with the same 10 tabs open: Firefox - 10 Tabs Opera - 10 Tabs Now, here's the RAM usage. The total filesize for Firefox is 40.7 MB (42,749,952 bytes). The total filesize for Opera is 4.77 MB (5,005,312 bytes). Observations during experiment: - Firefox was significantly slower at loading webpages. - Firefox's forward and back buttons were nowhere close to instantaneous. - Firefox did not handle certain objects on webpages as Opera did out-of-the-box. Final conclusion: Even though is is a free, customizable, and secure browser compared to Internet Explorer, I would obviously recommend Opera over it for the following reasons: - Opera has more functionality out of the box. - Opera is far more customizable than other browsers. - Opera has improved so much throughout development, whereas Firefox doesn't seemed to have as much. (I used it before I switched to Opera, year or so ago.) - Opera is more secure than Firefox. - Opera takes less RAM and HD space than Firefox (taking old machines with low-end hardware into consideration). Feel free to comment!

Well, by "movie" I'm assuming he means DVD. Regardless, the two sites I linked to are the largest resources for all Audio/Video (CD/VCD/SVCD/DVD/DV/WMV/MPEG/AVI/SWF/Etc, Etc, Etc....)
-
I think that's moreso true with regards to video than audio. I mean, there's always lossless codecs/filters as well.
-
For hardware recommendations, puntoMX is your man.
-
Yeah, I'd also say it's the monitor. But explore your possibilities because one can never be too sure.
-
www.videohelp.com www.doom9.org There's your BEST resource for ALL Audio/Video information on the net. You will find a tool to do what you want to do if you take the time to look around at the tools on those sites.

If you're looking to lower the bitrate for filesize capacity purposes, then you could easily use something like Audacity. but if you're trying to turn a 192 into a 320, you're wasting your time. You can't increase the quality of the source.

If the machines are all the same hardware, you could reformat one machine, install, configure, then image the drive and image the rest of the machines. As for finding a fix, have you tried just reinstalling XP as opposed to reformatting? Quite honestly, after reading your first post again, I feel it may be hardware related. You should test your RAM with Memtest (Ultimate BootCD v3.4 is a great choice), not only to see if that is the problem, but also just for the sake of knowing you have good RAM. UBCD also contains all the harddrive diagnostic tools so you could test your drive as well.

Guys... guys... this has been done before. Please, give it up. Another decent and informative thread does NOT need to end in childish war. LLXX, you've complained about Net2.0 in other threads and go out of your way to make others quite aware of your dislike for it. This is unnecessary. Look, it's 50 MBs, so what. Do you have only 2 GBs of storage? I know, I know, I used to be really picky about it, but I think it's time we all let go of these trivial things. I think we should have a higher sense of appreciation for these things also. XPero, Jcarle and others are coding us some very useful tools that not many people out there know about, and would love to have. If it takes 50 MBs of "runtime" code to run some unique software, let it be. I'm telling you what to do, merely suggestions, wise ones. Cheers.

Make MSN Messenger email shortcut open with Firefox
Jeremy replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Software Hangout
I've been wanting to do this with Opera forever. The *only* thing I know of is to Switch to Trillian, which will open it in whatever browser you use. trillian is currently at v3.1 (released about a year and a half ago or more, very good) but v4.0 is being developed.
