  1. I would remove it will probably break when you upgrade also check out the Start is Back ++ forum on msfn link: Start_IS_Back
  2. has anyone used paragon drive for cloning? i'm planning on using it I have been having issues restoring (modern) backups with drive image xml
  3. wait one second I thought my computer was owned by Microsoft?
  4. --JorgeA I wounder since now less experienced testers are doing it are they now testing updates on a wide range of varying hardware or are they now using a limited selection, because they now have to do the extra work?
  5. I can not do the monthly subscription model. I feel like I will pay more in the end and not have used the software anywhere near enough to justify getting the subscription. At least when I bought a piece of software with the non-subscription model I knew that it cost x amount of dollars, it will be supported for y years and I can probably get a few extra years out of it in the end. (still running MS Word and Excel 2000) rant: I remember a time when you used to get in a car travel to a store that sold PC software and it had these round circular disks inside with full versions of the software that you wanted. Then you go to the cash register and pay money making the disk and the contents yours to do with what you wished for as long as your system was up and running. They also gave you the whole program not just a sliver of it and then ask for more money later. Now you mostly buy online (you can still go to the store and buy a piece of cardboard with a key on it, but in the end you still have to download the program of the internet) and give then direct access to your wallet!
  6. ^NoelC that used to be me! (when I first started playing with computers I used to do a lot of reformats) now out of curiosity dose running an ad block and using alternate DNS (ie. Open DNS) how much dose that help fight malware? (i mostly use alternate dns, because Windstreams seem to go down a lot) Edit: answer to my question was in the 2ed post should have clicked the link
  7. if they ever got support for android apps that might help MS a bit in the phone market anyway.
  8. I can see one way that it might be good to use a pin. If you are logging in with your MS account and don't want use the same login info on the local computer. I said that kinda wired sorry for that. here is a quote: by Rodalli on redit source
  9. Oh no! I have no choice, but to allow MS to take my info fyi this is actually an image that I came accost on my external drive not 100% sure what os I am guessing 8 or 8.1 preview release Edit: bit off topic, but I thought it was an interesting pic showing where MS is (was beginning) to head
  10. I miss the magic too. I remember the first time I got my hand on a beta it was like Christmas! I remember exploring the system trying this and that turning things on/off and being amazed. Now not so much it has become a choir to do much with Windows 10 (I haven't done much just exploration, removal or junk, tweaks)
  11. I understand W7 will not last forever all good things must come to an end; weather it a natural death or MS chopping limbs off one after another. In the last couple of months I have moved to Windows 8.1 as my primary system and I have been continuing to keep up with the latest versions of Fedora and Ubuntu in the event that I decide it is time to move back. I will always use a Windows system on some level, but maybe not at full capacity.
  12. Not sure how something that's free is overpriced... privacy quote above. Windows is not a phone quit trying to make it into a phone! Bring back the desktop experience! I am staying with Windows 7 SP1 until MS make a good OS with a solid foundation or I have to move to Linux. I'm not the most advanced user, but it will do just fine.
  13. [sarcasm] Come on guys it's the holidays and Microsoft has a present for you and its name is 10; all Microsoft wants from you this holiday season is access to some personal information. It is a two way street you know you get something you give something [End sarcasm]
  14. *Disclaimer* this might be nothing, but it could be something could it be the boot disk going to the menu its self? I while back I tried installing W 8.0 Dev Preview and the VM no Windows software on it and I was getting a screen that sent me to the "Boot Options" menu for Windows (the screen you get when you crash your system) i'm not sure if anything I said above was useful not an expert on the subject
  15. need to ad some new definitions to our malware protection lol!
  16. I had a hard time with classic shell at first, but after a few days it was like an old friend!
  17. I like the fact that their first post is "Hello World" http://microsoftclassactionlawsuit.com/uncategorized/hello-world/
  18. Verified! Works nicely. VM: W8 Build 10565 Created 2 user accounts one local and one Windows Live Logged into both Opened and Setup the Mail App (Windows Live Account) worked fine Logged into my local account changed the Start registry entry to 4 Logged in to my Windows Live account (I assume it worked because a local profile was created when I logged in the first time) The Mail app would not work error code: 0x80070426 Just for laughs I tried to login with an alternate Windows Live account it failed I reset the registry entry and everything started working again.
  19. Thanks for sharing I will have to give this a try when I get out of work. I have a few things I want to test with this concept.
  20. For what it is worth I just enjoy testing the "Latest and Greatest Windows Operating System" It is kinda like a weather forecast of things to come.
  21. Didn't Google also high lite their ads in a yellow box along with bold "AD:"? Just wait until they start putting ads Microsoft Office!
  22. yeah, web mail (in chrome) I should have said that in the previous post. I noticed that message when they moved me to the new "Outlook Preview"
  23. I'm not liking this cloud based marketing scam! I feel not guilt for this lol. Edit: Using Outlook.com
  24. @Noel I agree it is not a great idea to turn of UAC, but the individual is an fairly competent user. I'm not worried about him.
