I never want to fully rely on "the cloud" I have seen a few services come and go like a switch got flipped. I have only been burnt once and ever since then I have always maintained several copies of my important files on multiple media formats. Thank god for flash drives growing up I had a boat load of floppy disks and cd-rs floating around my computer none of them properly labeled however I digress from my original point. Now I limbit my use of cloud services amazon video, skydrive (nonessential file just useful) and google music just for a complete backup of my music collection.

for some odd reason I thought that React OS was a plugin for Windows XP . I have almost got my Linux setup done to ware I like it. Got a few kinks to work out broke the main UI theme somewhere along the way and then I want to get VMware player working, however, the package seems to be broken or missing something.

I am impressed with Wine it runs a lot better than it did back when I first started using it. It even has limited support for apps made with Visual Studio its a bit buggy but I did not expect the vb app I made to launch.

good point. I don't think they lock down their hardware to exclusively run Mac OS. I have run Ubuntu on my 2012 Mac mini I was not using boot camp or anything like that.
-
yeah you are right. I didn't even consider that it would be a nightmare to work with any thing like PS or Video/audio especially if the network could not handle it. In my case with the school it works because the main programs they are running are office/productivity apps I forgot they have separate mac lab for multimedia.

I believe in the future you are going to start seeing more businesses/schools moving to remote application servers. At least two places near were I live have done this. My high school has done this they installed the necessary client software and locked the old (mostly xp) systems down best they can and every year they are replacing these desktops with thin clients. They really don't want to upgrade. If MS dose not improve the desktop in Windows 10 I will move to another system when my Win 7 machine usefulness diminishes.

Just wow. I have to ask are enterprise customers actually interested in 10? I know the article pointed out they are interested in the security features, but if the system is garbage it self (also very nosy I doubt MS is going to not use anonymous telemetry on enterprise systems)why use it especially if you have a setup that just works.

Agreed 100%. I wish they would return to the proper development of the desktop and put metro aside as an optional feature that dose not hinder desktop productivity. If they ever made metro capable of running Android apps I might use it once in a great while. I no longer use a smart phone but there were some "time waster" apps that I enjoyed. They also need to understand that they can not continually keep shifting their users around every 4 months, breaking/removing software/configurations ect. also @ralcool I will have to check clover out it looks interesting. I like the fact that it is using chrome like tabs!

Along with everything JorgeA said I would use open DNS it will help cut down potential problems Link. I mostly use it, because Windstream's DNS seems to go down a lot in my area.

I was very surprised to find one with GUI . I am using Fedora and I tried to run the good old yum command via terminal and the command failed pointed me to the new yum extender man file which pointed me to the GUI executable. Like you said JorgeA they could use some more clear documentation and links to the sources.
-
I was download programs that were not in the free list (virtual box, wine, ect) did not realize you could point yum extender to a non-free repository (would have saved me a lot of time) before I decided to put Linux on the computer I tried to install 10 just to see how it was on a real machine. I blue screened on first boot lol!

I moved back to Win 7 has my primary and the only issue I have come across I the lack of desk space. I have been converting my what was my Windows 8.1 system into a Linux system and using my W7 system for support. I need it terminal commands; I have been stuck in dependency he**! lol

alright like I said I restored my snapshot and then rebooted this is what I got. Take it as you will: Edit: when I restored back to the VM's original state it is 6-22-15 everything functions normally until I restart then I get the screen above
-
I have restored my VM back to 10130 and checked the update settings mine was set to Slow. (I let the VM go did not have much time to play with it. Eventually to get back on the insider builds path I had to upgrade using physical media for 10565) I will play with it some more see what happens.
-
go for it.

kinda off topic, but how effective would running a program like driveVacine (there are freeware versions of software that do the same thing as DV, I just can not remember their names) that locks the drive after you get it to a state you want the system in?
-
got a shot both the same VM just one is updated Those are both insider builds. If you were to stop on 10240 or 10586 I suspect you'll see no expiration notice. -Noel 10240 gives you a notification that it is no longer usable and that you need to upgrade (2hr run-time before it reboots). It also got real buggy anything I tried to open crashed with the exception of Windows Setup ran fine.

My VM is activated and valid It has remained good since the first Insider Preview, but I noticed I have an expiration date. I will have to snag a screen grab after work.

What's a Reasonable Windows Update Strategy Going Forward?
helpdesk98 replied to NoelC's topic in Windows 10
didn't MS recommend reformatting your system one every year (somewhere around the time of Win XP)? Once a year seems reasonable to me not every 4 months. Once a year is about how often I do it if my system needs it or I am no longer using the system. Edit: fixed failure to create logical sentences -
the list just has not been updated a good amount of time has passed. the developer may have gotten busy and has not released an updated copy. another thought I have is updates on updates (updates that fix broken updates (it happens)) has for the optional my guess is they are specific to your computers hardware, something to ease the upgrade to W10, or something that you have to agree to the terms and conditions to before you can install (ie. IE, malicious software remover, windows live essentials ect)

I visited that page last knight in disbelief lol. Knowing that small piece of information makes a lot of the post I have read make a lot more sense.
-
Well that shows how much I have been paying attention.
-
that happened to me too a while back. I think it was with Vista the update kept coming back (I may not have hid the update or forgot) I made good use of my recovery partition lol. as for Mr. Capossela I can't wait for the fallout to occur. When dose the the life cycle for Windows 7 end? MS should support the software till the end of it life span (read some ware probably on these forums MS was not making certain security codes for venders to limit support Windows Vista, however, the OS still has of few years on life style also W8.0 it is BS) Support you D*m software!

Google. They did it with G+ they had big user numbers mostly because they forced you to use you G+ login with other Google accounts (ex. youtube).
