  1. MS has to innovate! The phrase if it is not broken don't try and fix it means nothing to them
  2. very true! I have trouble talking with people that ask me computer questions and they tell me they are using solutions like last pass to secure there account I politely give them my thoughts being that if someone gets a hold of your last pass account they get everything "single point of failure"
  3. I don't know much about any of this, but here are my thoughts: (for part two at least) You could create a network share and load your VHD to it then in group policy for your domain (i think it is under group policy its been a while) ad a custom script that starts on the "client systems" that will copy and configure as much as possible without you being in front of the system. hope that helps Additional thought: you could also use Windows Deployment Services to image the VHD's from a standard image I imagen you are using a lot of different hardware and one image might not fit all.
  4. Still not updates on ether system everything seems alright with one exception something pops up once in a while about group policy failing and I have trouble using chrome, but ill figure that one out another day.
  5. back on my W7 machine full time at least for the next week!

  6. it is going to be a scary day when (if) I ever turn Windows update back on I have had them off for so long I bet there is a good back log, but I am going to stick to my guns wait and see what happens on the 29th. I looked on my Win 8.1 system just to see how many updates I had on it I only seen 2 an update for my monitor and a game controller.
  7. still have my VCR, but I only use it for antenna my TV's coax plug dose not work. still plays most tapes and eats one every once in a while.
  8. I can see the future now! When setting up your new computer not only with you have to provide your product key you will also have to provide your credit card information so microsoft can manage your Windows subscriptions ect.
  9. I mostly use Virtual Box, but I have been playing with VMWare Player more. We can not forget about MS Virtual PC 2007!
  10. I like icons and gadgets! not tiles they drive me nuts I can't help, but wonder how they know what size to make them selves (I think I have a bit of ocd) and space them selves. also: regarding the quote above this post would it be a good strategy to clean install Windows 10 the directly update it and then remove all the junk and configure the system?
  11. back in my day updates used to come with halfway decent information describing the updates and what they solve in the WU Interface. Didn't have to claw MS servers and alternate sources looking for tiny shreds of useful information.
  12. I wounder if there counting all the reinstalls. I have reinstalled dozens of times in VMs just messing around and only had them online once before there destruction lol.
  13. that is why I am going hold on to my old copies of Office and some other software. Office 2000 still works on W8 it goes batty when the ghost of Clipppy appears and tries to help and the interface is not new and exciting, but it is tried and true. and if all goes down the drain I will grab my slate and chizzel
  14. the future is getting very dark.
  15. my plan b is Linux i am still booting my fedora box and experimenting, however, for the foreseeable future I will continue to use my Windows 7 and 8.1 has my primary OS. it dose what I need and their is room to grow!
  16. You guys are all missing "the other option" you can hang on to your system weather it be xp/vista/7/8/10/linux/mac/anythingIhaveMissed (assuming the physical hardware you are using dose not burn and crash) until Windows the next version of Windows or ectra comes out. In my opinion it is reasonable to believe that the system you are using now can potentially last until the next system is launched. Look at how the people have been running 9x systems I still seen new threads being posted on a weekly basis (tbh I am amased that some of the hardware from the times is still functioning my last Win 98 machine died on me 3-ish years ago). Sorry for the rant I was trying to post this in between work and my thoughts got a bit scrambled lol.
  17. I love the Windows update logo in the bottom corner!
  18. I am still a bit (tiny tiny bit) interested in this. Anyone tried out or played with the feature yet?
  19. information overload! beep boop beep! lol
  20. oh no! if I don't claim my free upgrade to Windows 10 I will be missing out on so much. :.-( <- Attempt at sarcasm. I have a feeling it's not over not yet anyway.
  21. Windows 10 is not ready for main stream! Just admit it MS! I wish they would take a step back and take a breath and move forward not forgetting the lessons learned from the past.
  22. Windows 10 is now entering Beast Mode!
  23. remember a good while back Insiders got a survey email from a 3ed party (at least it seemed like a 3ed party to me)? could that have been something I remember filling it out with a dummy account and it seemed odd. any thoughts on that?
  24. @NoelC got it working beats the WXP version I was using! Thanks again.
  25. I would agree that is good practice gives you a chance to see what is what and how others have responded and make your own choices from there. Windows 10 is my playground for now at least until I get tired of it and move on to other things lol. btw can you get older versions of task manager to work on 10?
