  1. well this is one feature that I am actually interested in when it comes to Windows 10! I hope they do good things with it. -Helpdesk98
  2. I talked to a guy who runs the computers for a small fire station he upgraded willingly to Windows 10 and likes it. I asked him why and didn't really get an answer we got off topic talking about start menu replacements. Then I brought up the build updates that happen every 4 months or so that reset settings. I asked how he managed that again he didn't really have an answer but seemed to be concerned. It was an interesting conversation to say the least. -helpdesk98
  3. I think bat to exe converter a can hide the command line window. It has been a long time since I have used that though.
  4. If system on in last 30 Days = True then Add it to known Windows 10 systems else If system on in last 120 Days = True then Continue to count anyway end if :-) Join us in the future upgrade to Windows 10 today! By agreeing to upgrade you give away your rights to personalize your machine and loss of your privacy.
  5. I went to a big computer sale that was being held in a community building thinking I was going to get good deals on older computers, however after seeing the Windows Genuine Advantage notices in a lot of the systems I decided that I wanted no parts in that. I was amazed they would even put systems out there that were screaming WE ARE INVALID!
  6. I have only had one truly successful upgrade (at least I hope) Win Vista to 7. I restored the machine back to factory Win Vista and upgraded to 7. It all seems to have worked for now! The idea of doing an upgrade always makes me uneasy I feel like just because it is working now doesn't mean it will later something will go wrong!
  7. I like the old style task manager it is just simpler (probably from all the years of use) and I find what I need much quicker. The one thing I do like about the new one is the Startup tab it is a bit more convinent that Start+R>msconfig lol
  8. i think the win.old goes away if you run disk cleanup too.
  9. I don't want to too rely on the cloud I like it has a backup, but I don't leave my data and security in others hands. Who know who owns/controls the servers. Most of the stuff I keep online are scripts and installers or other data I may need for working on systems most of that can be found on the web, but is just easier to have in skydrive.
  10. ultimately I don't think there is such a thing as privacy online. I believe all you can do is limit the damage so to speak (by setting up firewalls, dns servers, editing host file anything that has previously been talked about above) In the end there are an unlimited and unknown amount of ways your privacy can be impacted. I have a question for anyone who has used the Windows store lately did they ever fix searching for apps? last time I attempted to use it on my test vm it was atrocious.
  11. As you know I have been experimenting with Linux (Fedora) I found that after a lot of tweaking you can make it good. Is it good for every user? No definitely not it depends on your situation what you are going to use it for. In my case I used it for mostly searching the web, document processing, and tiny little bit of gaming. It all worked to some degree.
  12. bit old, but it is a start: http://www.tuxradar.com/content/how-build-your-own-linux-distro
  13. if you go through with it let me know how it goes I have a mac Mini floating around and I have been considering trying 10 on real hardware currently running it in a VM. I don't really use it now that I have got my other computer that is running 8.1/Fedora
  14. massively off/on the topic of privacy www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYmfoovHj2Y tell me what you think. just came across this video it is interesting to say the least
  15. The government just needs to slow down and rethink this. Windows 10 is still fairly new (some may even argue that it is still in beta/testing) and bugs and other problems still need fixed. They need to give it time to be refined and broke in (it also needs to prove it's self worthy) before they go jumping on the Windows 10 bandwagon. and how about the 4 month upgrade and reset thats gunna be secure and cost effective right?
  16. I still use it in a VM mostly to mount virtual disks from backups create with the Windows Image creator. It saves me taking owner ship of user directories thats why I don't just mount it in my win 7/8 machines. on another not I have been seeing more activity in the XP forum about unofficial patches and tweaks to get things running that is boosting my interest in using Win XP again!
  17. originally I was going to use the word personalization, however, spell check had a better word. As for the word rationalization I am questioning Microsoft's decision making ability.
  18. Since Windows 8 emerged if feels like were taking a few steps back to older versions of Windows (3.1 and before) in terms of interface and rationalization lol. yes I said rationalization!
  19. I would be afraid to buy any games fro PC from Microsoft after the whole DRM system Games for Windows Live went down. at least with steam if their going to go down they will allow you to download your games library before the server go down for good.
  20. Thanks I will be enabling that on all my systems.
  21. not sure when the boot F8 was changed, but that has become a nightmare (it may have something to do with how newer windows boot not sure I mess with boot as little as humanly possible). I was working on my cousin's PC that just happened to get mysteriously upgraded to W10 kinda it kept crashing during Windows setup and blue screened saying something along the lines of attempt to write non execute memory so I attempted to boot into safe mode; nothing happened! eventually I got the safe mode menu to boot up (i guess) and selected my start option and restarted the PC. I am guessing the change was an attempt on Microsoft's side to simplify F8 Safe Mode, however, they fell flat on their face.
  22. Your computer needs to reboot Windows 10 is waiting. Welcome to the cloud!
  23. this is probably a stupid question, but oh well lol how are the updates being done for regular user as opposed to users of the insider/preview builds. Is Microsoft taking such an aggressive update road on them too? aw man if I was an IT guy and I just got all the machines tweaked and setup to my/company's likeing and had to reconfigure all my machine I would be ticked!
  24. I pretty much gave up on my W10 VM I just upgrade it and do a fresh install just to keep a current build. Just in case I ever decided that I want to really start messing with it again.
