  1. definately, and PROTIP: thermal paste is for wimps. use superglue to ensure a tight bond between your CPU and processor.* (also can be used to fill in any cracks in the CPU/motherboard if you get too heavy with the hammer) * MSFN is not responsible for any damages, directly or indirectly.
  2. I just saw something i found odd. I was surfing the web and came across this: now Ive built many, many PCs but I have never used my Skeletool CX on a CPU. I might use it on the packaging, but never on the CPU! Id be hesitant to use even the screwdriver on it on any of the internals of a PC. //for the record, i realize its a Photoshop (the reflections are all wrong -I can tell by the pixels ). but it still makes me wonder what compels someone to Photoshop pliers holding the center of a CPU and then label it as "How to Build Your Perfect PC"
  3. sweet. i had no idea CS4 was rendered using DWM. makes it slightly more tempting. im still running 2.3 on the one machine i have CS on. I'd upgrade it if it didnt cost more than the PC its running on (P4 2.6 1core 4GB ram). Installing CS4 on it would kinda feel like putting 15000$ worth of rims on a '94 Civic.
  4. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820141442 thats prolly the smallest youll find. they have other colors/sizes here but that pink one has more pictures shoing its size see also: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820233070 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820220301 http://www.kingston.com/flash/dtms.asp http://www.sony.net/Products/Media/Microva...sm-h/index.html
  5. if you want to prevent access to the themes tab you can use this: http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/1077/ IMO its preferable to removing them.
  6. yeah AFAIK there isnt any functionality removed from HB edition that would prevent 3rd party apps from working. the dealbreakers for me has always been no remote desktop, single monitor only and cant join a domain however it does look like adobe does block installs on HB editions. My guess is this is just a limitation imposed by Adobe since most PCs shipping with HB wouldnt run CS4 well anyways (most OEMs will throw in HP on even midrange systems) and not a technical limitation of the OS simce ive never heard of any compatibility difference between editions until now. here is the watered down comparison chart http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-v...ns/default.aspx or a slightly more detailed breakdown http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2068721,00.asp personally the least ill settle for is Business/Enterprise Edition
  7. My first guess is you havent disabled UAC or are not executing the download using "run as administrator" option. My recommendation: Disable UAC (method 1), reboot and try to execute the setup again.
  8. there isnt a command line/DFconsole switch for reboot thawed after installing (or for setting x num of reboots thawed even after installed) the only way AFAIK is to set it locally on each machine in the GUI with Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F6 if you are running DF enterprise, on the server console, you could add a scheduled task set to 'reboot frozen' to run at say midnight then add the workstations there after you deploy them. then the user would have infinite reboots that day then after midnight, the PC would refreeze (though if the PC is off when the job is scheduled it wont run) Im pretty knowledgeable with deepfreeze since i use it daily but for a definitive answer, you really should ask over at http://www.faronicslabs.com for a definitive answer. Their tech support is the best of any company ive ever worked with.
  9. use the on the bottom left of the post in question. if you recieved it via pm, then its best to forward it to a mod or preferably a supervisor. ill take care of it this time though.
  10. Generally speaking, the lower the speed the better the chance the cd will burn without errors.

  12. first off, the BIOS is usually the first thing you see when you turn your pc on after you video card initializes. its the software that displays the splash screen and allows you into the 'setup' screens (ex Press F2 to enter setup) * now, assuming the PC you are talking about is the one in your sig, Dell would of course be the wrong place to go for a BIOS update. You can get the BIOS update from the ASUS website here youll need the latest BIOS and the BIOS utility to flash your BIOS. READ THE DOCUMENTATION that comes with the update. OK theres your answers but heres my opinion: Saitek tech is just guessing. The tech guy just likely wanted you off his phone. Im not saying that updating your BIOS is a bad thing, Im just saying I wouldnt hold out too much faith in it fixing your issue. *yes i realize there is much more to the BIOS than that but its a simplified definition that works for the purposes of this discussion
  13. my unattended install disagrees. the code i quoted above is direct from my XPSP3 DVD i have on 300+ PCs with the Zune theme. either way should work fine.
  14. Ive never seen that reg key actually work. If GPOs were that easy to disable theyd be worthless. http://windowsitpro.com/WindowsSecurity/ar...oup-policy.html as for removing windows components is concerned, you are better of just changing their services to not start with windows. blackviper has more info on which ones can be safely disabled and in some cases, the side effects of disabling a given service.
  15. Rehab - Bartender Song (actually listening to the youtube version -caught the end of end of it on the radio and decided to listen to it proper) which is weird cause I wouldnt usually listen that kind of music but this one stuck in my head. Agreed. there entire 'Plays Metallica' album is awesome. Unforgiven are both incredible.Sadly, most of their original stuff was hard for me to get into though. Their only thing i like thats original is Apocalyptica - I Don't Care on a somewhat the same but somehow totally different note,
  16. a quick list of files that can be deleted safely: c:\windows\softwaredistribution = Varies depending on how many update have been applied c:\windows\temp = Varies %temp% = Varies c:\windows\web\wallpapers\*.jpg;*,bmp = 2.46MB c:\hiberfil.sys = same as installed RAM c:\pagefile.sys = Varies, usually 1GB or more c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents = 1.61MB you can also rerun the builtin Disk Cleanup and delete restore points and/or ccleaner to remove hotfix uninstallers and other stuff
  17. trackmania nations forever is free via steam but its about 7-800 mb and i have no idea about its rendering mode.
  18. i usually run 'net stop wuausrv' and delete c:\windows\softwaredistribution c:\windows\temp and %temp% & deactivate hibernation before imaging then my imaging software (PING) deletes the swapfile before taking the image. you can also delete things like the sample music and c:\windows\web\wallpapers too if you wanna go crazy about it but those wont save you much
  19. testuser's Documents is in fact due to desktop.ini but its the one in the default users my docs. C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\desktop.ini (hidden) ------------------------------------ [DeleteOnCopy] Owner=testuser Personalized=5 PersonalizedName=My Documents ------------------------------------ delete the line thats marked as red. (or the whole file) it can also sometimes show data from the allusers my docs as well C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\desktop.ini (hidden) which in every case ive seen this is all that should be there: ------------------------------------ [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@shell32.dll,-21785 ------------------------------------
  20. sweet. this will work out great for the PC repair market, cant wait till the 'average user' start uninstalling the browser to try to purge their 37 toolbars and spyware infections only to find they cant reinstall it because they never have their install media and OEM PCs have only gotten less reliable about leaving the cd contents on the drive... although this means my pen drive will likely need the 7MB installer for firefox for when IE8 is installed and not working and the 70MB installer for IE8 when its not installed and id say its confirmed http://www.aeroxp.org/2009/03/ie8-functionally-removable/ http://chris123nt.com/2009/03/03/win7-buil...8-is-removable/ http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/pa...ws-7-build.aspx
  21. dunno what to tell you [Shell] CustomDefaultThemeFile = "%WinDir%\Resources\Themes\nameof.Theme" has worked on my CDs. the only difference is i dont use a patched UXtheme and the theme i install is signed (Zune/Energy/Royale) but im sure people have used unsigned themes before.
  22. i dint have a UDF image to test with but i think imgburn will do that. if not there might be something on the free software list that will
