  1. i dont think you can. vistas explorer highlights the whole line. you might be able to use an explorer replacement like Dopus if it bothers you that much.
  2. yeah C:\ProgramData is a hidden folder. you can either type it manually, enable hidden files and folders or type %PROGRAMDATA% into the address bar (with the % signs)
  3. C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup in Vista is equivalent to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup in 2k/xp
  4. aurora, bubbles, and ribbons ar microsoft property and can be distributed with Windows Vista only http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=18408 links removed. topic closed. as for the rest you should give credit where credit is due http://sourceforge.net/projects/rssavers
  5. thats a key piece of evidence right there. My guess is its something in the administrators profile causing it. you could hunt down the issue within that profile but i would just wipe the profile data and start from scratch: backup anything under that user (administrator) profile to a location outside C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator logoff administrator log onto another administrator account right click my computer properties advanced tab click settings under user profiles delete the administrators profile(if you cant a reboot may be required) logout login as administrator restore the files (if any) from the backed up location
  6. well in theory, the Intel CPU should outperform the AMD PC (not because of the brand because of the specs) my guess as to why the 'slower' PC outperforms the 'faster' PC would be maybe the 'faster' PC had something wrong with it (it did fail)
  7. http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/ the one thats up there now looks petty cool if your into that kind of game. this site gets new games all the time some good, some bad but theyre always free
  8. Please do not cross post. If you accidentally post in the wrong forum, do not create another topic -we will move it. I deleted your other post in the Win98 forum. a few years without using All Programs on the start menu? I hope the problem is intermittent otherwise you are a very patient person. do you remember anything about this hotfix you downloaded?
  9. http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix has an option to re-install BITS and that might work but i still dont understand why you people uninstall services when disabling them serves the EXACT same purpose. the only difference is the time it takes to re-enable.
  10. ghost is crap anyways. its arguably the best thing Norton has ever produced and its still not worth the cost to license it. I personally use PING. it doesnt have a ton of features but the ones it has are all functional and reliable.
  11. this occurs if you copy files into the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS folder without using explorer.exe to do it (command line, admin shares, 3rd party copy utilities, etc) it occurs because when a font is installed properly (by explorer.exe) registry keys are created that tell windows which face to use by default. if these keys dont exist, but the file exists in the fonts folder, windows will use it but it just uses the first set of character it finds in the file. in some cases thats the bold/italic face. yours has occurred because your game registered fonts in the registry to an alternate location (Ive seen this before on machines with cracked steam engine games on them.) when you uninstalled the game, it removed those entries. your fonts are likely still in C:\WINDOWS\FONTS but have no entries in the registry and therfore default to the first typeface found in their file. the reg sections that CTH posted might resolve your issue, they may not register all your missing fonts correctly. this process will register every (valid) font that is still installed on your system navigate to C:\WINDOWS\FONTS (yes the font that was deleted wasnt in this folder but its where you need to go to fix it) right click and select Install New Font browse to C:\WINDOWS\FONTS Click Select All Click Install Reboot/logout/login may be required SFC /SCANNOW might be able to restore missing core fonts but the fact that they are showing at all suggests they are still there.
  12. as long as this stays as a 'brainstorming' topic, it can stay open but please remember rule 2c: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=18408
  13. a quick search turned up this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/vis...for-windows-xp/ might be worth a shot
  14. sorry but i cant hardly find anything called 'lovers eye'. the only reference to it on the web is your other post here. and a fileext entry that would indicate that it might be installed at '%ProgramFiles%\Lover's Eye\bin\BolyEdit.exe' other files that might accompany it are: bolybrowser.exe BolyCapture.exe BolyCap.exe bolygutzx.dll bolyihfl.sys bolz26. exe bolzaprtp.sys Bom.ocx bom5nwbvrc.sys BoM6RcP8.exe boma4.exe unfortunately, none of those files turn up anything useful on google which means they are likely randomly named or very rare (neither of which helps us) but id guess that your dealing with a some type of malware download and run hijackthis! and post a logfile (will give us a picture of whats running on the system) you can also try Malwarebytes Anti-malware you can also use the Anti-Malware Toolkit to download the above utilities and a lot of other potentially useful utilities
  15. a vista sidebar gadget could do this. if your not running vista you could look into yahoo widgets and see if they have one that would do the trick.
  16. yeah my biggest concern was what happens to older builds once google turns the service off? I would assume the it would follow a 'fail-open' kind of policy but you never know.
  17. XP SP3 requires that SP1 or SP2 be installed, or SP3 can be integrated w/ no prerequisite service pack on the slipstreamed source. It's not uncommon to have a CD writer.. I integrate SP3 of course, instead of wasting time installing previous service packs. Vista SP2 isn't exactly cumulative either, it will require SP1 because they were too cheap or lazy to make a separate service pack for Server 2008. You have been misinformed. SP3 IS cumulative and does not require any service pack to be installed. SP1a or greater must be installed on the OS handling the slipstream process but other than that, everything else can be plain ol' RTM http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en little SP3 FAQ that clears up the other misconceptions people have about SP3: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...mp;#entry785968

  19. what are you 12? ccl0 is right you likely need to install/integrate the drivers for your chipset to enable USB2.0 (assuming your board has it)
  20. AFAIK, 9x cant do FF3 (if im wrong then just ignore this topic) but if you are running FF2 and can/will upgrade to the final version of FF2, you might want to know this: http://it.slashdot.org/it/08/12/07/1811213.shtml thought you guys might want to know that upgrading could leave you without phishing protection (though it looks like once google pulls the plug it wont function on any version of FF2)
  21. i dont believe there is. cached credentials dont expire so i dont see why you would need to change your locally cached password. you can disable the 'logged on using cached credentials' nag message by doing the opposite of what this article suggests. (set true to false and 1 to 0)
  22. you know that only difference between 1 and 1a is 1a doesnt have MSjava. Though i still dont see the point of in using an outdated SP1 when service packs are cumulative.
  23. we have an entire forum dedicated to Install from USB. I've moved your topic there.
  24. ok just to stop this 300x200 nonsense right here: any post asking for full desktop screenshots will contain pictures bigger than 300x200. thats just common sense. now in this particular instance a moderator (me) posted 2 1920x1200 images prior to this little spat. Moderators don't just enforce the rules, we follow them so technically I would have to i would first have to ban myself which would prevent me from logging in and banning you and i think just about every other moderator has at one time posted an image larger than 300x200 so they would all have to ban themselves prior to attempting to ban you. so i think you'll be safe posting larger than 300x200 screenshots in threads specifically requesting large pictures.
