  1. I dunno what your talking about its right there below Server 2008
  2. Obviously. go con someone else into supporting your pirated version of windows somewhere else.
  3. yeah add +1 to this being a terrible idea. Ive only needed to force escalate to system 1-2 times and both were purely out of frustration during a malware disinfection. I prolly could have worked around it if i had tried. anyways your average user rarely even needs admin privileges. Its like a Jeep. Yeah its kinda cool to be able to drive around with the doors off but really how practical is that really?
  4. i think he means when you use google cache for MSFN you see this Calendar links to this page: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=calendar its just a feature thats turned on on the 'lite' version that google sees but something xper has removed the link to on the full forum template
  5. [/witchhunt]I dont think he was requesting warez. he just needs to know about the different license types. to the OP: OEM keys require OEM media and cannot be used on alternate license types. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP#Li...and_media_types
  6. you could try something like: http://www.bluemicrosolutions.com/bms/non_member/index.htm http://www.rohos.com/products/rohos-logon-key/ or you could try this little homebrew fix: (keep in mind this is just off-the-top-of-my-head and I have NOT tested it in anyway) this will force users to use the classic logon (i know that not what you want but stick with me it might work with the welcome screen too but i dont think so) it will also add a legal notice popup before the login dialog have your software that detects your hardware device run these lines either in a bat or individually (replace WHATEVERXXX with your passwords): @echo off REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v Defaultusername /d WHATEVERUSERNAME /t REG_SZ /f REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v DefaultDomainName /d %COMPUTERNAME% /t REG_SZ /f REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v DefaultPassword /d WHATEVERPASSWORD /t REG_SZ /f REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v AutoAdminLogon /d 1 /t REG_SZ /f REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v ForceAutoLogon /d 1 /t REG_SZ /f which will add the user and password to the registry and set XP to login automatically after a user hits OK on the legal notice then run this as a logon script after login or when you key is removed (add "shutdown -l -f -t 10" to force a logoff in 10 seconds if the key is removed -if your software supports that) @echo off REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v DefaultUserName REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v DefaultPassword REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v DefaultDomainName REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v AutoAdminLogon REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v ForceAutoLogon which removes the auto login information from the registry.
  7. get Vista? thatll disable the 'classic logon' for sure. but seriously AFAIK, there is no way to disable the welcome screen C-A-D exit to classic logon screen. it always there.
  8. L4D and Assassins Creed (again) until today but now im playing Ghostbusters. its freaking great
  9. Default for now. I figure if im evaluating an OS i shouldnt change much unless it really gets in my way. Vista UAC = In my way from 3 seconds after the first boot and therefore gone after the second boot. 7 UAC = Slightly annoying at first but now its only annoying when it one of the times it forces the screen black, locks up any video im playing and then forces a redraw of the entire desktop. The rest of the time its OK.
  10. if im not mistaken i think hes refferring to the Assembly, Cursors, Downloaded Installations part of this screenshot as you can see i have changed the glass color to orange but everything else is still blue he might also mean the highlight rectangle that is selecting Boot, Branding, de, and Debug and no my system looks nothing like that. i changed the theme back the default for that shot. i use Aero Edge-White but the highlight rectangle is still the same color blue. GRRRRR
  11. nah im running Vista x86 here. Windows 7 x64 is at work. ive banned 3 of his IPs so far. lets see how many proxies he can find.
  12. lol yeah it looks like they were mad at me this time (which means they are reading this thread) since i know theyll read this let me just say: it makes me feel great to know im making the little f***ers angry. thanks spammers you made my day.
  13. we have a few ways of keeping them out but they always get back in. its easier (and more satisfying) to ban them manually. that particular waste of skin was banned by PuntoMX for spreading warez around the 9x forums if i remember correctly
  14. i just cleaned up and banned him (again)
  15. im pretty sure this works the same as http://caughthemwatching.com/ which is genius BTW. the part i cant figure out is why are you acting surprised that your security can be compromised when your 2 test configs are 98+IE6 and XP+FF1.5? there are literally hundreds of published vulnerabilities for either config. just sayin.
  16. OMG please tell me how i can be as cool as you! I dont even have 1 upper ASCII character in my name so i dont think i could possibly achieve the same level of awesomeness as you obviously have. ok well technically, that last part isnt true. consider this your notice.
  17. Yeah we should dig up some of those complaints about the worthless UI changes like the "new" Start Menu, the newfangled systray, shortcut, and long file names.
  18. Do not crosspost. especially when it isnt even relative to this forum. Topic closed
  19. your very welcome. also if you have a game on this list, you can add your cdkey to steam even if you didnt buy it on steam and it will download the entire game and any updates for it. for instance, a guy i work with had a copy of UT3 he got on a preorder and asked me what expansions hed have to install to play online. I never bought the game but i told him to try the key on steam and viola! it upgraded him to "UT3 Black" (which as it turns out is just UT3 with the titan pack and updates) but the cool part was we didnt have to do any research on it. granted it was an 8Gb download but with our connection that was still faster than updating it the 'old fashioned way' also if your into modding or want to hosta a dedicated server check out the tools tab. you can setup a dedicated server easily from there.
  20. you could also script that command to run as administrator using runasspc. it allows you to embed an administrators password in and encrypted form. http://www.robotronic.de/runasspc/
  21. youve missed the point. the servers will be available until a patch is released to turn off activation. if the patch never happens, then the servers stay up. whether they intend to provide a patch isnt the issue.
  22. i know facts arent as fun as dreaming up wild conspiracy theories but... http://www.microsoft.com/norge/piracy/activation_faq.mspx:whistle:
  23. our network guy has one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16834996916 he keeps telling me i need 1 but wed prolly have to go to office depot and that place is weird.
