  1. you can use this utility: http://nonadmin.editme.com/DropMyRights P.S. DropMyRights is not warez. its just a stupid screenshot.
  2. Heck, thats driving ME crazy and I'm not even reading them anymore. I cant imagine the crap nuhi has to put up with. if its not the "How do I get things back, HHHEEEELLLPPP!!!" topics that drove him away it was probably the "HHHEEEELLLPPP!!! I downloaded Windows XP SuperCoolEiteWarezInternalMicrosoftEmployeesOnly Edition and it says you made it and now its broke!" emails. "On Vacation" might just be a euphemism for "Locked up in a straight jacket for for planning the elaborate execution of a warez kiddie"
  3. as inifiniti suggested, you should (re)install the software for your mouse: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download..._64〈=en thats assuming your OS is in english, if its not, choose yours on this page
  4. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=18408 your only legal alternatives are a downgrade or using a copy you have previously purchased (I dont believe i would trust an ebayer selling a copy of XP at this point) my advice: forget what grandmas 'FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: RE: Why Vista sucks' email said about Vista and get the opinion of a user that know what they are talking about before just screaming "I hate Vista" and clinging to XP like it was some kind of awesome phenomenon of programming whose success will never be eclipsed until Jesus comes back and codes an OS for you personally.
  5. ok first off, LOL @ geek squad. I dont know which would be worse, working for geek squad (which is what hell must be like) or using their utils when you dont have to (because you dont work there) but im going with rageaddict on this one. oh, and right forum. but wrong site if you aren't employed by GS. If you are employed by GS but id guess they aren't paying you to fix your wife's PC so i don't think that qualifies as 'internal use'
  6. yeah that was me too. imageshack isnt normally blocked on my network but im currently testing an untangle server and it was webfiltered.
  7. just off the top of my head, heres what id try: open up the case check that all fans are spinning and are not obstructed some bios can display RPMs/temps without fully booting the pc if one is running slower than normal replace it add an external fan to blow into the case/crack a window if its cold outside boot the machine and run HWmonitor or a similar utility to determine which part(s) are getting too hot (also check fan rpms if available.)
  8. hi! find drivers for me? K THX BYE! seriously, were gonna need some system specific info.
  9. to be a VESA mount it has to meet certain standards: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesa_mount some monitors will have additional screwpoints and bracket mount points that are not part of VESA standard but still accept a VESA mount. Example: full page: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/moni...pt/EN/about.htm the screw holes marked 4 in this image are the VESA mount holes Dell uses the 2 light gray notches between the top 2 VESA point holes and the button marked 3 to mount their included stand but these are not used when the monitor is VESA mounted.
  10. You got 22 out of 69 Video Game Systems cant believe i missed PSP. i got gameboy, gameboy color, advance, and DS and i dont own any of them but i missed PSP and i actually own one!
  11. we have an entire subforum dedicated to Application Installs. I assumed you would have found it had you actually looked for an answer to your question instead of just asking it repeatedly.
  12. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=18408 topics merged.
  13. its a quote from Jeff Dunham's act: its about 30 seconds in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uwOL4rB-go but you really should watch the whole thing. its great.
  14. i use http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ on my work desktop (only one i have in dual) it has options to open stuff on the other monitor. its not free though.
  15. ummm yeah and bittorrent is for sharing large files... like free linux distros. yeah... thats it linux distros.... /jk i know there are legit uses for it but the primary reason it still exists because or piracy and other non legit uses.
  16. Yeah when it comes to copyright infringement, getting their IP address is less useful than it used to be. Sites like rapidshare add just another link in the chain of evidence a copyright holder has to follow to find a user. which further delays the process. and if the infringing IP address is a shared network (companies, universities, etc) they may only have 1 or 2 IP addresses to the outside world but have hundreds of users. assume for a minute that you are responsible for one of these networks. if you were to receive a complaint that a user somewhere inside your network had recently infringed on someones copyright or was actively sharing a file with the outside world, you could easily relay that users identity/location on your site. but if someone contacts you and asks about a user who 6 months ago accessed rapidshare and downloaded a file, you would need to sift through a potentially massive logfile(assuming you archive that long) to find where the user was. That still doesn't guarantee that you would be able to tie that logfile entry to a specific person.
  17. Rapidshare only cares about how legal the files they host are if they get a complaint. There are of course a lot of legal issues but If you use you personal webspace to store a copyrighted file, it is possible that your ISP could tell a complaining copyright holder who you are. Sites like Rapidshare would only have your IP address and possibly your billing info from their resellers (which is more like their money launderers) but most uploaders get around that by buying accounts via resellers or ebay so that if traced back, it wont lead to them. not saying anyone on this forum is that hardcore about it. most of the members here just want to avoid the 'grey area' of the EULA.
  18. most of the time when people use host like rapidshare/filefactory its because the file is either blatantly illegal or falls in a grey legal area (EULA violations) so people dont host them on 'legit' webhosts because legit webhosts usually take things like DMCA notices and ceast and desist orders seriously.
  19. an AV that requires terminal services to be installed? I knew the 'Gamer Edition' of Norton would suck (if its from Norton, it sucks) but thats just an outstanding level of suckitude.
  20. i havent checked the BIOS time (havent rebooted) but if it does it again ill check it. i changed my time servers as you recommended and ill let you know if it gets screwy again.
  21. ok this is starting to bother me. I just reset the time on my machine for the 3rd time in 3 days. at 9:17PM tonite (just a few minutes ago) i looked down and the windows clock says 1:17PM the minute time was accurate just like yesterday and the day before but yesterday it flipped to 1:XX AM sometime in the afternoon (4 or 5 PM i forget exactly) and i just vaguely recall resetting it monday. The power supply failed sunday night and i replaced it monday and cleared the BIOS when troubleshooting that issue. so the clock being wrong on monday i can deal with but the last 2 changes i cant explain. this machine has been up the entire time so its not a battery issue snips from systeminfo: OS Name: Microsoftr Windows VistaT Business OS Version: 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001 OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free -- Original Install Date: 12/5/2007, 7:30:59 PM System Boot Time: 11/24/2008, 7:46:04 PM -- System Locale: en-us;English (United States) Input Locale: en-us;English (United States) Time Zone: (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) time server is set to time-a.nist.gov
  22. you dont HAVE to have AD to use wsus. http://thelazyadmin.com/blogs/thelazyadmin...-Directory.aspx this is the .reg ive used for the few machines i cant migrate to AD yet. REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate] "ElevateNonAdmins"=dword:00000001 "TargetGroup"="" "TargetGroupEnabled"=dword:00000000 "WUServer"="http://WSUSSERVERNAMEORIP:8530" "WUStatusServer"="http://WSUSSERVERNAMEORIP:8530" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU] "AUOptions"=dword:00000002 "AUPowerManagement"=dword:00000001 "AutoInstallMinorUpdates"=dword:00000001 "DetectionFrequency"=dword:00000003 "DetectionFrequencyEnabled"=dword:00000001 "IncludeRecommendedUpdates"=dword:00000001 "NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001 "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000 "RebootRelaunchTimeout"=dword:000000f0 "RebootRelaunchTimeoutEnabled"=dword:00000001 "RebootWarningTimeout"=dword:00000015 "RebootWarningTimeoutEnabled"=dword:00000001 "RescheduleWaitTime"=dword:00000002 "RescheduleWaitTimeEnabled"=dword:00000001 "ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000 "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000003 "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001 if the machines still act stupid after a reboot: Start->Run->"net stop wuauserv" delete the contents of c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution Start->Run->"net start wuauserv" another possibility is remotely executing the patches remotely via a .bat file using psexec but thats problematic.
