My 2¢ are here...

Go to "Start" menu => Run, then type in the box "services.msc" (without the double-quotes, of course) and click on "OK". The services manager will open and you should have a line for "Print Spooler"...

Sure! This worked for me, on a now decommissioned machine. My current main machine does not present that issue. And, if needed, other solutions are listed here by Raymond.CC...
-
Double quotes, you mean? BTW, it installed OK for me. But I'm on x86 sp3, of course. And thanks for the heads up (with solution!).
-
I'll look into it further quite soon, and report... Later edit: Here's a list ow what's inside KB3161608... I'd sure be more confortable to recommend a standalone WUA...This rollup sure modifies a lot of low-level components, so a leap-of-faith (or good testing) is required.

Hi, erpdude8, long time no see! Glad to see you around! Thanks for the info: That one's an important update, for sure!

I'm baffled, Dave... I really am. However, if 46 works fo you, so should FF 45.2.0 ESR. And the 45.x.x ESR line will go on till Feb 2017, at least. So you might perhaps want to try the 45.2.0 ESR, so as to know whether it can be an alternative to you. Meanwhile, when the next 47.x appears, you should try it, too. With some luck, whatever quirck is manifesting itself now, may be gone, by then. If not, then we should try to look deeper at it, at that point. Just my 2¢, of course.

I'm using FF 47.0 since it was released, with no issues. Try downloading the stand-alone installer and installing once again, with EMET diasbled...

No, it's not. Then again, you shouldn't have updated Avast's engine without a fallback strategy. Surely, the updated Avast is the sole source of your issues. Redeploy your previous system image, prevent Avast from updating the engine once more (that is: let it just update the malware definition files) and you should be all right again. Now, if you don't have a previous system image, well... you may have a long reinstall ahead of you.

Is This Science Fiction ... or Just Plain Scary ?

This, however, is no sci-fi... -
20 years ago today digital (aka DEC) was still alive and kicking, the commercial internet was in its infacncy, and there already were linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD, and yet, most of us didn't go that way, even when used to working on unix workstations and the like... who can really know what we'll actually decide to do when using both XP sp3 and 7 sp1 become impossible, many years hence?

Which emulator? Installed how? Emulating what? As always, with you, there are too many questions... ... and too little answers. -

@Roffen: Did you get this month's updates, after all?
-
I'm not sure. But if anyone has the knowledge to help you, that one is heinoganda, IMO. So read carefully that thread, then PM him, unless he chimes in here first.
-
Humm... isn't that somwhat off-topic in this thread? I'm considering moving it to the "Deeper Impressions" where it'd belong. May I?

dencorso replied to jumper's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
@Dibya: Stop being bothersome, already! You resurrected a thread nobody has posted to since 2012 and you want an instant reply ? You know fully well jumper is around, so he'll answer you if and when he can. Cool down and wait, will you? -
@bookie32: you might want to try heinoganda's updater...
-
And it in fact is. So, don't worry, OK?

However, that kind of users tend to disappear in the near future, because smartphones are already almost enough to cater for their needs. Soon enough, only those who really need a computer will be using one... yet, I´m unsure whether there'll still be Windows 10(+) by then. Of course, there´ll still be Windows 7, 8.1 and XP, in that order, but EoS and user-supported. Will MS really handle all the remaining customers to Apple and unix in a silver plate?

Updating Firefox and Thunderbird on Windows 2000
dencorso replied to MrMaguire's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
If I understand right, one should go to about:config, and there create or change the string value app.update.url.override so that it's contents become (according to my interpreatation of BlackWingCat's Blog): https://aus3.mozilla.org/update/3/%PRODUCT%/%VERSION%/%BUILD_ID%/%BUILD_TARGET%/%LOCALE%/%CHANNEL%/Windows_NT%205.1.3.0%20(x86)/%DISTRIBUTION%/%DISTRIBUTION_VERSION%/update.xml @~♥Aiko♥Chan♥~: Can you read Japanese? If so, there are many things on BlackWingCat's Blog that would be useful to translate to English and post here on MSFN... -
@tomasz86: Just for testing... is it OK now?
