  1. Remove all the updates indicated in post #1, and remove, if present, the folder Dave-H indicated, then reboot and hide those selfsame updates.
  2. What I see is 7 about level, 8.1 falling slowly and 10 still rising, but slowly, albeit somewhat faster than 8.1 is falling, but probably it's still too soon to be sure of all that.
  3. That's yet another reason to conclude 10 already flopped: the initial impetus is gone, even with MS pushing it as forcefully as it's doing. It seems more people is defending their 7SP1 and 8.1 setups from 10 than I'd antecipated and, of course, most 8.0 and all current Vista and XP are imprevious to it.
  4. Before doing anything more complex try replacing just muweb.dll by version 7.6.7600.256. Of course, to do it manually, you'll have to boot from either a LiveLinux distro or a Windows PE CD. It's usually enough. Make sure to let us know what happened, OK?
  5. No. That's not how it works, 'round here. Please do edit your previous post and at the very least give a pointer to which topic you found the solution in. Otherwise nobody will ever benefit from this except yourself.
  6. Here's the older one, for easier comparison: It sure seems 10's already flopped!
  7. It ain't paranoia when they really are after you!
  8. Here is a maintenance update of VxDProps.exe... the new version is 1.0.0.1, because changes are really minor. Here's what's new: 1.) Bugfix: now Language Neutral VxD's are described as such. 2.) New feature: now the DDK Version is also given. VxDProps_1001.7z
  9. One can hide Win 10 updates, but one cannot run from it...
  10. Do spend some time searching for modded Intel DP43TF bioses... It's quite possible someone has created a more full featured version of it...
  11. IMO, it sure is. Do make a full backup of both your OSes' partitions 1st, of course, and then give it a go! But be sure double-check your ability to reverse things, just in case, before plunging into it.
  12. Yes. They're doing it because you authorized them to do it, on "upgrading" to 10. Never! Ain't the new normal beautiful?
  13. The Shugart Associates' SA1004 was an 8 inch 10MB HDD, IIRR.
  14. We cannot. That one example of a truly unknowable question. What can be done, be it a 8.1 or at 7SP1, is to draw the line before 10. That cannot be but a personal decision each one has to take on one's own. After one decides to move on to 10, IMO, resistence is futile: assimilation is inevitable.
  15. No. .NET is not required for updating XP and its derivatives and, in fact, just Media Center edition (and Tablet PC edition) ever included an "integrated" .NET, v. 1.0 (which is, by now, fully EoL, AFAIK).
  16. how exactly are you removing them? Are you using some modified version of Aaron Stebner's removal too?
  17. Cheetah...
  18. KB3075249 and KB3080149 are telemetry updates, hence no-no. Tho other two are OK.
  19. [...] Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Windows Ten! [...] Paraphrasing the great Carroll, of course!
  20. So... .NET 4.0 and .NET 3.0SP2... I went looking for and foun a new Silverlight (v. 5.1.40728.0), too! The Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB3080333) (also part of MS15-080) is available. But do take care! To remember us of the new times at MS, unwanted things will be pushed on you!!! Make sure to unselect "Make BING my search engine" and "Make MSN my homepage," before installing. The previous installers didn't offer either.
  21. With all due respect, how do you know for sure you can trust MS's own Firewall to default-deny MS's own info-gathering ???
  22. Propaganda works!!! Intense propaganda, repeated intensely works even on those who know better, if they don't keep eyes wide open all the time. @helpdesk98: You must move on to 10, because Ten is True!
  23. Find yourself IDA Free v. 4.1. (It's a DOS verson that can run in the DOS box). Load the VXD in 4.1 free (using it's LX loader), save the database, and exit. Then load the database in IDA Free 4.3 (or later) and it'll offer to to upgrade it... accept, and then save it. Now you can use the 4.3 GUI with the VXD LE - cool, ain't it? There'll be an error about a missing file, ntddk.til (only available in full version), but that never gave me any grief.
