  1. I was under the impression that this topic is about using software that requires Win7 or above on Vista with the aid of win32’s extended kernel. It has become clear to me that you are not particularly interested in security software, and therefore see no reason why others wouldn’t be content with a legacy version of Malwarebytes. Personally, I am not very interested in gaming, but I would never presume to declare all discussion of PC games as being OT in someone else’s thread.

  2. I tried it (the .dll) and I didn't experience any crashes , thanks again , win32 . Though, I agree that personal experiences may vary (different hardware) . I'm running quite ancient hardware (by the modern day standards). One PC is with some old Quad Xeon (circa 2009-2010) and another with one of the first Haswells. I already told you and the others : Kaspersky crashes are it's "normal" behaviour , you can search and read it yourself , so we can't be sure whether the dll is faulty or not . As for me , I trust win32 and his experience and I see the dll is working fine. All I'm trying to say , test the DLL with NORMAL software , not that KGB "something" . I'm not sure with what to respond to your topic, since I already suggested mallwarebytes or the brain.exe. About chrome , for me it's just running without any mods with this kernel , there are a lot of folks here that use it too. If firefox works for you , chrome should work too. But you need 64 bit version . Make sure you are running chrome x64.

  3. @Dixel I understand that you will never ever use software made by KGB and that's your opinion Even if I switch to another AV, isn't something wrong with that dll that made kaspersky crash? Maybe there are programs that won't work with the modifications added by the new dll. Who knows? You could just respond to my topic where I asked what's the best AV for vista with the extended kernel and not make a whole war here How did you get it running? I couldn't make it work and I really want to use chrome instead of firefox

  6. 1 - I shan't discuss anything about "performance" of any KGB related software since I've clearly made my point, besides we don't know who's behind those "labs". 2 - Please discuss "antivirus" programmes and make their comparison in the appropriate topic. (not here, obviously) 2 - Newest programmes that work with Vista's ex-kernel by @win32 . Just to name a few : Chromium , Opera , Centbrowser , Chrome , Firefox and it's forks , Chromium Ungoogled , I've also read about TOR ( though I haven't tried it myself, but it should work too, since it's based on Firefox) , newest FFMPEG , 4K Stogram , Grids (quite popular desktop versions of instagram) , Aiseesoft Screen Recorder , Minecraft , Scrap Mechanic , Cemu , plenty of modern games that use Mono engine, quite a few of modern DX11 titles that use Unity. Again , I really don't understand what you were trying to say . It sounds like you're not satisfied with this jaw-breaking progress regarding the ex-kernel. And why did you even mention Win7 ? This topic is about Vista , for true Vista lovers. And no, our ship "is not sinking" . Are you trying to devalue win32's work ? It's just fabulous ! He's just fabulous ! We all should be grateful ! Perhaps you (yourself) can help him with the work ?

  9. Consider yourself excused. I do not use or endorse Kaspersky products, least of all their free version that has never been submitted for testing by independent labs AFAIK. (However their paid products always get very high protection scores, which is more than can be said for Malwarebytes Premium.) Aside from a legacy version of Malwarebytes that worked fine on vanilla Vista, what other non-KGB programs are you referring to? It’s great that recent versions of Chrome and Firefox can be made to work, and I’m sure they have considerable security advantages over the legacy versions that supported Vista; but security software is another major category in which vanilla Vista has been left out in the cold. With the exception of Microsoft’s latest Windows Defender (which is reportedly quite effective), every antivirus in the world continues to support Windows 7.

  10. 1 - Do not build high hopes for those newly developed custom made drivers , I just think it won't happen . Or they will be glitchy as hell . It would be much better to buy something from 700 (or 900 series, if you're okay with the absence of AA) and put it on the shelf for the future use . 2- Yeah , I got you the first time , about your Titan. BTW , I tried Titan Black , and I didn't like it , even though it's from the same series . The chip is different , the picture is not as good as the original. Also , it had troubles with idle mode with any drivers starting from 350.xx. Have you ever tried your Titan with Vista ? I tried mine with XP , the picture quality is good , chrystal clear and sharp . With windows 7 it's ugly . (Obviously not the Titans, but Windows 7's fault).

  11. In real life scenario it looks bad to my eyes. I just love CSAA and how it performs. I had to return GTX 1080 to the store since I didn't like the picture quality (overall , not only the absence of CSAA) and I felt scammed by Nvidia , they just removed CSAA for no apparent reason, without notifying. I don't and shan't buy any new Nvidia products if they are going to continue producing GPUs without CSAA and without support for Windows Vista. They've lost a good , loyal customer . I supported them with almost every new release since the early 2000s. And had bought top tier cards . Like 8800 GTX , 9800 GTX ++ , GTX Titan , GTX780Ti , etc . I compared my original GTX Titan with GTX 1080 and and Titans just wins . It's simply more beautiful. Someone here wrote that 1000 series cards are rubbish , I agree.

  13. Your English is quite good, rest assured of it. As for your questions do please read the attached document. It's author is YuriyCN, not me: I only made an English version of it using the DeepL translator, which is crude but way better than anything the Google or Bing translators can ever hope to do. If you can read Russian, however, you should get the original file, which location is also indicated in the same document. Good luck! Later edit: thanks to @gerwin, a much more readable version of the initial translation now exists, and is attached below, replacing the original one. Windows_XP_2021_1_ENU_c.zip

  14. I, surely, (but please don't call me Shirley) would have to concur ~off topic~ I will admit, Vista has been peeking my interest lately. Been doing some research today in search for a legit installation and I don't like what I"m seeing - sure, in a specific part of the world known for scamming, I see lots. I've been scammed in my lifetime about 4 times, and have 'donated' (haha) about 2 grand. Actually, not too bad considering people have been taken for so much more. Anywhoo.. Back to regularly scheduled programming.

  17. 31st of December 2020 - works cool (even with disabled remote fonts), 1st of January 2021 - all hell breaks loose . It has nothing to do with the operating system. It's the new java , scripts and remote fonts. I'm glad it is working for the creator himself though. I've been away for some time , now logged in and everything works again , except the odd squares in the menus.

  18. Removing telemetry is just a couple of seconds . Modding the driver is not easy , I guess . We are better off with 7/9 series , btw I noticed modded 372 files in the folder, what are they for ? Win32 began experimenting ?

  19. Thanks for the suggestion , @XPerceniol. But there's no way I'm allowing any remote fonts. And even if I do , it won't help with the not working pop-up menus. And I'm really sorry for users who prefer (at least some privacy) on older OS and esp. users with old browsers . Good luck with the new changes.

  21. No, it only download latest applicable updates, none of them is superseded Updates folder containing osetup.dll/ose.exe + SP2 files + post SP2 files for 32-bit en-us will be ~ 1 GB SP2 + updates files for Project/Visio ~ 255 MB

  24. Hello , I'm having a really hard time understanding what are you trying to suggest to this fella by saying this ? It means he just needs to obey any "directive" ? Of course , I'm sorry in advance , if I made a wrong assumption . Though , you may want to know that directives (even federal) are not federal laws . https://www.dailyleader.com/2016/06/02/myers-federal-directive-is-not-law/ And this is regarding EU directives in particular. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directive_(European_Union) "Directives normally leave member states with a certain amount of leeway as to the exact rules to be adopted..." So again , directives are not federal laws. And , as a citizen , he supposed to obey federal laws . Let him write to the bank and demand to show the >federal< law , which clearly states that this form of identification is required.

  25. Yep , you're right , Vista Home Premium ! I do not remember the exact model . Yes , it was HP Pavilion with a thin remote control . The temps were fine , esp. at idle , I remember I was playing Dungeon Siege 2 when it caught fire . I never had it overheated . It was standing on my table , the air conditiong was on. P.S. You see , the same as I was told "HP cheaped out on the cooler". I also had an HP printer which went bad after a year ! They lost a customer , I do not by anything from them since .

  26. Yep Just need to install Windows installer 3.1 first : https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/download/details.aspx?id=25 And yes the SP1 in French displaying WSUS. I tested upgrade SP2 > SP3 and in this case, Windows server update service still displayed. But not if i directly install from SP3 iso, weird.
