I knew testing Panda on Windows 7 x64 would be insightful. It installs with plain .NET Framework 4.0 installed with zero updates applied if you fake .NET Framework version by registry edit. Then you can revert the edit and the anti-virus itself still functions. .NET Framework version 4.6 at least must be faked in the 32-bit part of the registry, see Determine which .NET Framework versions are installed. That doesn't work on XP x64, something else must be bugged about the installer. I was testing on XP x64 the first time around and noticed string with the registry path SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full\ in installer's Stub.exe with OllyDbg and several instructions later comparison is made with value 0x6004F, which you would find in Release DWORD value in registry on systems with .NET Framewok 4.6 installed. There was also reference to Install DWORD in the same key in neighbouring part of the code, which is normally present with just plain .NET Framework 4.0 installed. Should've realized then .NET Framework error message by installer is misleading.

On my Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit partitions, I have installed all .NET Framework versions from 1.1 to 4.0 with all hotfixes and updates.

And how do you know it? Did you try them? Well try, you will see - they are not. Both Kaffan MiniBrowser and Supermium will reset everything to zero. All extensions will be gone, everything. Portability flags don't work there. So don't spread falsehoods, please.

There is a big difference whether there is an official warning, such as that from the BSI, for a programme or not. Such official warnings do not exist for Malwarebytes, Panda and AVG, but they do for Kaspersky. Any turning off features changes nothing at all. TBH, such an official warning says it all. I never had any problems with installers, and especially installers of antimalware programmes, in terms of detecting the .NET Framework versions installed under Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit (and even including all POSReady updates). So, I can't confirm this statement. But under Windows XP 64-bit, this seems to be more the case. I personally am really glad not to have to use Windows XP 64-bit.

Admittedly, I totally forgot that x64 versus x86 was our task at the time. My goal was to compare Kaspersky to Panda. I did not witness anything "negative" with Kaspersky (once you comb through the settings and don't just leave them at "default"), but I did find Panda to be the better of the two. You have to leave all of the versions for better compatibility with all software. Let's say you have a program that runs on .net 2.0. Even if you have 4.0 it will keep asking to get 2.0. Got Panda running on XP x64, you will need to install Application Verifier 4.0. And .NET Framework 4.0 too of course if you don't have it yet, the antivirus' management interface uses it. If you don't update the framework fully, might be a good idea to at least have KB2600211 as well to have some bugs of initial release fixed. Run Application Verifier (from Application Verifier folder in Programs folder). File->Add Application, you don't have to browse to any actual file, just type Stub.exe in the File name field and confirm. Repeat the process for Setup.exe. Edit both entries like so, you don't need Basics, so uncheck it, then check HighVersionLie under Compatibility. Right-click on HighVersionLie->Properties, here you need to put in Windows Vista's info (crazy, I know, it's also funny that MS's own online installer for .NET Framework 4.0 tries to download an update for Windows Vista when executed on XP x64). After I disabled CSP and re-enabled it, the site now redirects to HTTPS and loads (even while CSP is again enabled). It also loads when I directly type in https. It seems to remember some state from earlier, despite a cleared history. Normally I never type https colon slash, and just go with whichever the site is happy with.

With Firefox-derived browsers, portability is just a matter of telling the browser to store its profile directory in the folder it was launched from, instead of the fixed C:\Users directory the browser would use by default. That way, you can put the browser on a thumb drive, move it from PC to PC, and your extensions and settings all move with it. You can do this with a .cmd file (fka a .bat file) that you launch instead of the .exe, which is what Ed's suggestion does.

Yes, a very underrated OS. The last amazing OS after XP. Try Ex7ForW8 (Explorer from Windows 7 ) on it and see how the OS flies. Modern OSes (10,11...) started with 8.0... well I wrote a lot about it... I don't want to say the same again, but I'm happy to see when people appreciate this nice OS and I hope we have a good KernelEx for it one day.

Thanks for the reply bud, glad i'm not the only one who recognises it's brilliance & yes, it's very underated. I'm gonna install it on one of my much faster systems as i'm so impressed with it.

Preferred version of Windows Server is Server 2008, it's very fast on old and weak hardware, especially the one that runs off mechanical HDD disks.

When it comes down to speed Windows 8(.0) was very underrated. I also installed it on an old Netbook (Mini 1012) and it was the only OS that ran fluently. Windows 7 and 10 couldn't compare (11 obviously not)

There are basically two ways to access an "external" Registry "backing file". #1 is mounting the file as a (temporary) hive in the "current" Registry (this can be done with the "normal" Regedit), for an example look here: https://4sysops.com/archives/regedit-as-offline-registry-editor/ #2 using an "offline" Registry editor such as: http://reboot.pro/index.php?showtopic=11312 For what you want to do the "normal" #1 way is "better", but it is what you want to do that is extremely complex and that is difficult or impossible with *any* method, as it would imply hundreds or thousands of settings, many of whlch may be contrasting with your current Registry. In theory you could load one of the old windows Registry backing file as a temporary hive, select and export the relevant keys to .reg file, manually edit the .reg file (to change the temporary hive name to the "real" one) and import the .reg file in the "current" Registry, but as said likely we are talking of hundreds of small .reg files and a mistake may always happen. Besides, the .reg file does not "carry" some metadata (authorizations) so that when you import them the authorizations may be incorrect for some particular keys. jaclaz

Maybe a good idea , but that just would be too easy . It connects to plenty of US owned/located IPs too . Chinese folks use US companies for their dirty spying , no one cares , it's just business , lol . Look at my list , just scroll back.
