Already only because of attempts to connect to IPs 95.101.114.48, 95.101.114.196, 23.220.255.25, 23.220.255.21, 23.59.69.139, 192.229.221.95, 104.18.15.101 and 104.18.14.101 performed by Process Explorer v16.32 when it started (and without any possibility of disabling them via a program option), I would discard such version. I would also like to try version 16.26, but it is no longer available for download.

  2. Telegram Discloses Names, Phone Numbers, IP Addresses and other available personal data of its users. As we know, the supposedly private messenger - Russian Telegram demands users to give up their phone numbers, and here's the result when millions foolishly trust such companies. "in India, where there are more than 100 million Telegram users, the company in November provided the Delhi High Court with the names, phone numbers, and IP addresses of users "accused of illegally sharing a teachers’ copyrighted course" materials on the platform." 3. All social media and large platforms do this. You either choose to accept that this happens or you don't use the service. There's no point in trying to form teams for or against any particular service or program.

  4. That's Process Explorer, we are talking about Process Hacker, and besides, based on my testing (July 2022), v16.26 is the last version that works properly on XP, I don't recommend v16.32.

  7. Agree! And the timing they chose is obviously due to the known political reasons, which I'm not going to discuss, to quit spreading news to a wide range of people without accounts. I think they are compromised and need to be closely watched and investigated by the NSA. Looks like only one direction since 1992.

  10. Hello @Andalu! Have a look into this post: https://msfn.org/board/topic/178377-on-decommissioning-of-update-servers-for-2000-xp-and-vista-as-of-july-2019/?do=findComment&comment=1221841 There you find a link to an attachment down below. The link https://www.fileeagle.com/software/470/Process-Explorer/16.26/ doesn't work anymore. Alternatively, you can download it from here: http://process-explorer.findmysoft.com/

  12. The importance Reddit had though was that it was the most “real human” you could get at times. Rather than the paywalled blog posts and heavily biased news outlets, you could gather a bunch of information from other people out there if you were trying to make a decision for yourself. Not only that, it was a fairly decent place for focused communities as well. But their ignorance especially to the moderators who do their work for free and the visually disabled who need the third party tools to use the platform really shows they too fell to viewing their platform as a “social media” when it really is still better off as a forum network. People abandoned Facebook quite fast because even the illiterate know it’s a privacy nightmare. Plus the whole image that your grandparents use it drove a lot of the younger generation away. This could also be said for issues countries encounter but that can get too political for here. The companies are quite interesting with how they can be so misled and completely out of the know from what their community wants. What ever happened to customer feedback? Valve is an example of a company that manages well. The layout is nearly identical to an open source repository and everyone just does whatever they want. The company is private and isn’t made to make every penny possible. Their support team is fantastic on steam and their support of Linux is even better. This is an example of what happens when you don’t have $$$$ shoved into your eyes. You can actually do something great and not be greedy.

  14. The primary mistake of those large platforms was that they wanted to get everyone onto there, and didn't understand how people on the internet are. You can't have a platform for everyone, especially not everyone in the world. There are too many disagreements and too much funstering that exists to make it viable.

  15. For what it matters, still in India, the equivalent of the DMV site (government site where you can obtain or renew your driving license) has been found to be vulnerable to several possible exploits, including Sysadmin credentials, potentially exposing 185 million people personal data: https://blog.robinjust.in/gov-in/2023/02/Exposing-Indian-Citizens-Sensitive-PII-and-more/ Essentially if you give personal data to anyone, assume that there will be a leak before or later. jaclaz

  16. I'm afraid I do not have a frame of reference. I've never had a Facebook account, never had a Twitter account, never had a Reddit account, never had an Instagram account. NOT being on the platforms probably gives one a better view of them "from the outside". They are biased and maybe one does not see that bias "from the inside". I am not a Musk fan. But I don't mind a few eggs getting broken in the path of reforming "free speech" - which should never be reduced to "getting your voice out" while squashing/banning/censoring all opposing views from seeing the light of day.

  17. Two sides to every coin. Not everyone views what is happening to Reddit and Twitter as corporate self destruction but rather a course-correction, a righting of the ship. To make an omellete, you have to break some eggs. That's life in the USA, a gigantic pendulum swing of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum", extreme policy swings and spending way too much time at both of the extremes and not enough time in the middle. A very divisive country where fighters fight it out and never return to their corners when the bell rings - an all-out no-holds-barred duke-fest without the Daisy Dukes.

  19. That's why I wrote "AstroSkipper provides with top-notch security software only, don't forget to read his other very useful threads!" Is it light on the CPU in your XP machine? No additional load? I'm just afraid my old celeron (1core) wouldn't like the additional load. Forgot to tell, it's a laptop.

  21. You can also find it here: https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/ Personally, I would only download old versions from FileHippo (or other similar websites) if I can't find it from the original website, but as long as it exists on the original website, I download it normally.

  25. But then again, to me, VirtualBox is my biggest and most-used "security program". Run anything I want, without regard to crashes and holes, without regard to uninstall remnants left behind, without an internet connection to communicate anything whatsoever. Then delete the VM and revert to the base VM, clone it, and start all over again.

  26. On that PC, I'm updated to the level of January 2020. Not sure if I want to go higher. Veodeocard is with 6GB of VRAM, looks like it's enough. Drivers are old, but they don't make them for Windows 7 anymore. I would like to add, i run RDR2 perfectly fine, no freezes. So the card is fine.

  28. I imagine the browser without own mitigations won't appear vulnerable on a newer CPU while it may appear so on the older CPU. And just how effective are these software mitigations? https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?t=25059 I run an OS from 2020 and still vulnerable. Maybe the issue is that the OS was released during COVID-19 pandemic (pun-intended)? Or there are tricks that the small team (Moonchild Productions) simply isn't aware of, given that it doesn't happen in either Firefox or Edge and there could be a combination of OS level and browser level mitigations behind the scenes. But then again, I always got the impression that the only real fix is a new CPU as far as those particular vulnerabilities go.

  29. Even though I have a clear and incontrovertible opinion of Norton, there may well be others who prefer software that makes every decision for them. All I can say is: to each their own! And of course the population is larger in the USA (than in the UK), but the English language was only imported. It originated somewhere else. But honestly, I mix British and American English very often, rather unconsciously. Don't forget, I am not a native English speaker, either!

  30. To everyone: First of all, everything AstroSkipper says - you're demanded to have no doubts about it! Don't you dare to think otherwise. To the the wise scholar AstroSkipper: The bloody "free" Norton's licence-burden came on the CD disk with my Siemens PC, and I had the same terrible experience. I would never advise anyone to buy a licence from them also, of course. To everyone, again: Norton is on the same level of terrible experience along with Kaspersky. Kaspersky even dared to find a "virus" in the famous MKVToolNix programme by the famous German author Mosu - Moritz Bunkus. For those who are in bed with Kaspersky, confirmed by Kaspersky itself: the original setup.exe was a false positive. (of course!): https://mkvtoolnix.download/allegedly-backdoor-in-windows-installer-v2-4-1.html 1 - His spelling is indeed considered correct in the the whole World (minus one country), not only in the UK. 2 - Yes, read the above, it was not "effective". Never was, never will be. Yes, I don't wanna hear about it ever again, I think AstroSkipper agrees with me.

  31. My internal "AstroSkipper" list is about 70 security related items that I am trying to work through. The only limiting factor is the time available as I already mentioned here: And it is of course a Windows XP list and nothing else. And there are and will be definitely well-known security programs that I personally dislike such as Avast. And just because you don't know Look 'n' Stop Firewall, such generalised statements are rather subjective and do not correspond to the facts. There are or were enough Windows XP users who appreciate or appreciated this firewall. So, you are unfortunately wrong. And just a reminder, my thread is about antimalware, firewall, and other security programs for Windows XP and therefore considerably different from this one here. BTW, there is no real objectivity in human action and thought. To think that one is truly free from subjective influences is naïve and doomed to failure. And of course you are free to post wherever you want. And the same applies to me, of course.

  32. Right! And well done! Security products from Norton or Symantec or whatever they are called today are rather a disenfranchisement of the user, who is not allowed to decide for himself what should be deleted and what not, because the user is probably considered incapable. I see it a little differently. I wouldn't spend a single cent on Norton Antivirus, as I said before. But in general, you can certainly buy licences to use them in Windows XP. A licence of Malwarebytes Premium for example can still be used in a current version for a newer operating system in the event that the virus definitions are discontinued in Windows XP or Vista. Fortunately, I have a lifetime licence and can use it in a more recent version of Malwarebytes Premium at any time.

  34. ... Maybe not officially, but it has already been reported as running fine there: KFA2019 = v19.0.0.1088 As pointed out already, both KFA2018 & KFA2019 require .NET FW 4.0 on XP... FWIW, there isn't going to be a KFA2020 version, the free product has been rebranded as "Kaspersky Security Cloud - Free" recently: https://www.kaspersky.com/free-cloud-antivirus https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/thank-you/try-free-cloud-antivirus It also doesn't support XP officially; any brave person here with a curiosity to test it on XP?

  40. Panda free https://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/solutions/free-antivirus/ Compatible with: Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP (SP3 or later) I have been using for a while on my other computer Win 7 pro 64bits and it seems to be pretty good. On XP I have been using an older version of Avast 12.3.2280. Today I asked Avast forum "Will the last stable version of Avast that supports WinXP be available to download from avast forum/site after January 2019 ?" MartinZ responded "yes, it will still be possible after Jan 2019 to download the online installer and install it on 17-year old Windows XP/Vista. It will install the version 18.x. If you use the same installer on Windows 10 it will install version 19.x. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=220639.0

  42. I have two desktop computers and one laptop all Running XP SP3. For the past 4 or 5 years, I have been running Kaspersky Anti Virus (Not the full suite of software) on all three. Kaspersky provides a license for up to 3 machines. I have not experienced any malware or other harmful activity on any of my machines. Kaspersky does fully support Windows XP SP3 and the only downside I ever experience is a slower bootup while loading the various processes. I also have installed malwarebytes (free) which I use to scan weekly and malwarebytes anti exploit (stand alone).

  43. I usually recommend Avast as well if someone wants real time scanning, and have used it myself before and like it. Avira i don't think is officially supported on XP but as of a couple months ago it still works and is okay too.
