Well yoltboy01 gets the prize! After months of radio silence on the issue, Mozilla finally wrote back to my question on Bugzilla, that they WILL allow Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to run Firefox ESR 115. This was up in the air as to when support was going to get yanked. For awhile, it seemed that maybe ESR 102 spelled the end of the line for these versions of Windows. I cannot speak for "release" versions of Firefox though. Anyway, here's our correspondence (at the bottom of the page) https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15942705 points

I'll upload this evening. I wouldn't suspect the rebase to cause errors with other programs but doesn't hurt to verify.5 points

But at least they made a decision. I had to ask to even get that. As for release versions though, who really knows. I suppose this is also good news for Vista Extended Kernel users.4 points

... Dear Astroskipper , my true goal was not to prove you were wrong, especially on such a trivial matter, what good would that do in the broader scheme of things? It was more a proof to myself actually , because (I thought) I had a very vivid recollection of your post in question... As I wrote recently, "I may be wrong as much as anybody else", and I have been wrong in the past, and, no doubt, I'll be wrong again in the future - it's human nature, of course, to be wrong sometimes ("errare humanum est"), more so as age progresses , and it's something I deal with constantly in real life; errors/misjudgments committed either by me or my immediate circle (of relatives/friends, etc.); as long as someone else, preferably impartial, exists to point us towards the "right", we should learn from our mistakes, philosophise a bit and move on ... But I'm going off-topic... Cheers4 points

@yoltboy01 I made it! Even on Windows 7, although I had to swap a fair amount of functions. On Windows 8.1, in the libcef.dll file, replace the missing imports from NETAPI32 with NetGetJoinInformation. And add --no-sandbox of course4 points

Links for Rebuild 6. Not rebased. But will also be missing other miscellaneous changes made along the way as I do not document "change logs" for such a niche project. https://www.dropbox.com/s/bwtlmyoebk4j0hc/360ChromePortable_13.5.1030_rebuild_6_ungoogled.zip?dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/sn3s4ra40gby6cp/360ChromePortable_13.5.1030_rebuild_6.zip?dl=13 points

Hi Nico ; I run St52 as my daily driver basically, "File upload" via the VT modern GUI works fine here in my "dirty" profile: I then launched latest NM28 in an almost fresh profile (no extensions, only slight GUI customisation ), and "File upload" via the VT modern GUI also works as expected there: So I believe it's something in your current NM28 configuration that prevents the VT File upload from functioning as expected ... No worries here, too ; but I can assure you it did not contain that screenshot "when it went live the first time"; as I've posted in the past in this thread, I'm subscribed to this thread and have the MSFN forum software configured in such a way so as to send me e-mail notifications whenever new posts are being published in this thread - the software sends an initial e-mail ONLY when a post goes first "live", later edits by a post's author do not trigger further e-mail notifications ; thus, I have to visit the thread through my browser to become aware of additional in-same-post content... FTR, below is a screenshot of your post the very first time it went live, as it appeared inside my e-mail client: That e-mail was received at 202303280017GMT; and I'm extremely lucky, dare I say , that Bing's cache has saved your initial post just two minutes after it went live, https://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?q=https%3a%2f%2fmsfn.org%2fboard%2ftopic%2f184051-my-browser-builds-part-4%2fpage%2f74&d=3263078889977&mkt=en-WW&setlang=en-US&w=ur8pG3tLReOOvMj2Ov9a9kvf_SOCrEvI and it indeed first appeared without an image attachment: "Case closed" for me ... As ever, best wishes!3 points

Looks to me like an "identity crisis" web browser. Intended customer is the "gamer" crowd that want their web browser to look like a "game". Not for me, but "to each their own". All it's missing is a machine gun at the bottom that you aim at your mouse-clicks using a "game controller" instead of a mouse.3 points

... Did you remember to also toggle "dom.getRootNode.enabled" to "true"? These prefs are actually a "wedded couple", so to speak - if one is set to true, the other has to be set to true, too - and vice versa ... ... FWIW, both I and @UCyborg mentioned, here in this thread, it's not the case ; my own advice came after the recommendation issued by upstream not to simultaneously enable both (i.e. palefill+nativeWC): UCyborg (a "hobbyist" coder, BTW by profession ) later posted additional input: ... He specifically cites GitHub above, but palefill does also include code pertaining to VirusTotal, e.g.: https://github.com/martok/palefill/commit/657b2b1 https://github.com/martok/palefill/commit/6001e31 Kind regards3 points

But back then on XP/Vista, when you upgraded from Release 51.x, you were forced to upgrade to ESR 52.0. You could NOT install Release 52.0 (even though they were the same initial base release)2 points

Thank you for this - need to ground myself because I'm dealing with a lot right now. Yeah, I said I wasn't going to return to the funny farm but as I put in my sig line, I'm going to walk alone as It appears I'm the only one left in this section. I don't mind my own company and being my own audience on a computer forum because there is no place left for me to go to write, and even if something I say helps 1 person out there it was worth it. So, today, right now, just going on auto-pilot and this is ok because our mind can take over when our spirit and body is missing in other aspects. Listening to your video @legacyfan and what you wrote @UCyborg did make me feel less alone as its all too easy to alienated in a society with false and unrealistic expectations. I know staying in the house for long lengths of time in decreases the desire to take part in the game but the weather is getting nice and I'm looking forward to walking alone on the sidewalk and feeling connected to the earth without interference from other jaded and conflicted wondering people to drain one of what energy they've left. Things are changing and not in a good way imo and its becoming even more difficult for those struggling to just get through day-by-day. No need to reply or react (like or upvote) to anything going forward that I write in here, I'm fine and grateful I have this space and I'll be true and kind till my last breath even to adversaries. Hopefully I'm start to find a way to be more positive and optimistic (hopefully), but sometimes hard to see thought the endless tunnel sometimes. EDIT: I also don't attempt to fix typos or grammar errors in this section as that would be disingenuous because those mistakes reflect how I am and was feeling when I wrote and posted.2 points

That's awesome to know you have that working on your system. Thanks! And yep! It's been a couple of years now that I couldn't get Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522 to work in my Windows XP system. And even MBAM's support couldn't help to fix this issue. Today I thought to try it the last time. I had to dig deep into my system and removed all the remnants of old security programs and others, including a manual cleaning of my registry. Apparently, it did something.2 points

Hello @Dave-H! I finally got Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522 working in my second system partition. I updated it, and the version of its definitions is 1.0.29410 I received today, 28-03-2023. Do you have the same version in your installation? Is that the most recent? I had a look at the MBAM forum and read some comment (also some of yours ). There I found this topic: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/295844-legacy-3512522-sudden-red-triangle-your-updates-are-not-current/#comment-1558895 It seems that Malwarebytes wants to completely discontinue support for version 3.5.1.2522, even under Windows XP. No further update of the definitions!? What do you know and think about this? Cheers2 points

Lets just hope that 115 won't be the last for 7/8.1 (or that newer versions won't require a lot of patching)2 points

... Noted and original post of mine edited accordingly... It was just the level of your coding expertise that probably made me think you're coding for a living ... This thread (and the forums in general) needs more "coding-apt" members, beyond the "average mass" of just "browser users", of which mass I, too, constitute a part ... Hence, your erudite contributions are always welcome here ...2 points

Not by profession actually, it was just a casual hobby so far. Schools I attended did give a very superficial overlook of coding in C#, but things I did for me required other languages.2 points

And now there's another, confirming that at least ESR 115 will run on Windows 7 and 8x https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15942702 points

Ah alright, I havent thought about that. If you try that out, I would love to hear if it works2 points

thanks to everyone and yeah, the extended kernel is just the best thing i've seen in a while, even if it's not perfect it's still impressive2 points

Unless if there are any alternatives (free, and not commercial) for me to try other than Panda Dome, I'm staying with AVG Antivirus for now.2 points

My guess: Firefox 115 will be the last major update. From then on 7/8.1 users will only receive Security Updates till August/October 2024.2 points

Oh, sorry, I almost missed your reply as I'm not checking my notifications enough, thank you for the explanation. Frankly, I surprised there aren't more of us reporting in the forum about this browser. Everything is working just fine for me anyway.1 point

I can also confirm that firefox 111 also work with the extended Kernal (using mina7601s os spoof fix)1 point

I totally agree! Errare humanum est! One of my favourite Latin sayings! BTW, I do and did not have any problems to be proved wrong. As a mathematician I see evidence for what it is. And this is never about sensitivities or subjective feelings, and it doesn't matter what kind of matter. In any case, you could see in my screenshot what I did. And that was important to me. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

good so firefox should run fine on windows 7/8 for a while now (plus on the extended kernel for at least until next year)1 point

If the ESR version of Firefox 115 will run on 7 and 8.1, then the release version of Firefox 115 will run on 7 and 8.1, too.1 point

I'm sorry , but you're mixing up two different matters. Font Fingerprint Defender has nothing to do with remote fonts, it protects against websites that scan your system fonts. It makes a random font fingerprint, which is very good ! For remote fonts I just use the flag --disable-remote-fonts (so no extension neded at all). The flag is old, but it still works, try it.1 point

Wow - great work! Very nice to see actually I totally forgot that you have to put --no-sandbox on Spotify as well. Good to know tho1 point

It looks as if mojang has change there plan for.7/8.1 and will keep the launcher compatible with it https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360047556591-System-Requirements#:~:text=Starting%20in%20December%202022%2C%20you,perform%20any%20testing%20on%20it. according to this page (**Upcoming Change: Windows 8 or Above Required for Minecraft Education As Minecraft Education grows so must the requirements for the systems that we support. ... Well, I commented very shortly after your own post went "live" , then put the laptop to "Sleep" and went myself to bed ; when I first read your post and composed my own comment/reply to it, your post hadn't been edited yet, no screenshot had been attached at that time ...1 point

... Did you remember to also toggle "dom.getRootNode.enabled" to "true"? These prefs are actually a "wedded couple", so to speak - if one is set to true, the other has to be set to true, too - and vice versa ... That's why I provided a screenshot in my post above. Didn't you see my preference settings in the extra window? The image actually speaks for itself. Additionally, I had inserted red arrows. Since we have discussed here the settings of dom.webcomponents.enabled and dom.getRootNode.enabled, I do control them that way. If both are set to false, the lamp goes on. If both are set to true, the lamp goes off. The lamp is in the toolbar to the right of my red CSP button. Don't let the many buttons confuse you! My browser configuration is very special and also a little more complex than usual. Here is my screenshot once again: I've already tested it again. Now both, Web Components and Palefill enabled, are working on VirusTotal. Very strange! Anyway! Thanks for summing up all essential facts! You know I read this thread as attentively as possible. And your posts in particular! And @roytam1's and @UCyborg's ones, too, of course!1 point

In my main system partition, I'll stay with Panda Dome in any case. In my second system partition, I'll give Qihu 360 Total Security Essential 8.8.0.1119 a try, based on my positive experience so far. I generally prefer lightweight antivirus programs. Avast and AVG are too bloated, very resource-hungry and cumbersome. I have had that pleasure in the past. But what can I say? Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Thanks to extensive coding work carried out by upstream developer FranklinDM, "Web Components Slots" are now supported in UXP natively ; last Saturday's UXP-builds by Roy come with that support backported ; as such, now the "modern GUI" version of VirusTotal can be successfully rendered and used in NM28/St52 without disabling the native WC implementation and without excessive CPU consumption (YMMV, here it was OK ) : https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload1 point

If one site hosts multiple domains, the certificate will typically include a Subject Alternative Name for each domain hosted at that site. As long as the domain you're accessing is one of the certificate's SANs, the browser shouldn't give a warning. But if the domain isn't listed as a SAN, a warning should appear. @luweitest : Mathwiz is right ; below is a capture of the "SAN field" of the server certificate on "forums.internetfreedom.org":1 point

I was reading througn (including the introductory post), and I wasn[t able to readily gather what the primary differences were between Builds 7 and 8. I understand that Build 7 is more efficient on RAM conscious systems (I have only 2 GB on this old Vista x86 notebook I keep at my girlfriend's, so that bode's well for Build 7). But am I missing anything with Build 8?1 point

Any Chrome up to 109 will work on 7/8/8.1. It's official, and had been said many times. The point of the topic is to discuss newer versions.1 point

Ive also tried the latest release of windows 10 (22H2) and it worked great except for all the extra telemetry and other uneeded stuff added into it (which can be really easily be removed) but besides that ive never really had an issue with it1 point

I believe what this means is that improvements were made to the JavaScript core compared to the 'stable' Mypal68. If I was reading what Feodor wrote correctly, 68.13 improves it to Firefox 76 standards, which seems to mean improved nullish coalescing & optional chaining implementations along with other important back-end upgrades. Of course, I could be completely wrong on this one, but that's what I got out of it.1 point

Mine has a button to turn it off, though it defaults back to on each time the ignition is turned on. I've seen on a video on YouTube that eg. older Audis can be recoded to remember the state. Though for newer cars of the last 2 years or so that are manufactured under one of the VAG brands, the surest thing seems to be a small memory module plugged into the wiring below the button. I don't know, not sure if official personnel around these parts would be willing to do any mods in that direction. Obviously, memorizing the setting would be the best, though default off and keeping the ability to turn it on would also be fine.1 point

well good thing is there is no fast cryptomining exploit baked into browsers on Windows 7 and 8 or even worse ways compromise system. What next? WebHDD that allows transfer files directly to hdd or wipe it like activeX could. Webbrowser insanity started since 1997 had not stopped. Web browsers are not meant to this Well to answer original question google said in begin of 2020 that they will support atleast for one year on windows 7 so it is possible to kill it. Wonder if someday I wont be able access webpages since Chromium only technology, sites needing webgpu and webassembly enabled and others since refuse use them1 point
