  1. 1- Yes, these times aren't entertaining to me. 2- Yes, I already know that we dress according to the weather. Also, something new like what exactly? And as for the weather part, I am sad because it's the reason I was unable to go outside. I am not asleep though, I am awake. Well, I am not relaxed with living in my country, I wish to get out of it ASAP (you wouldn't really want to know how worse my country has went over the years), and stay in your country France, I will then feel better by a lot, and I mean, A LOT. Well, thank you for the hopes, but, you shouldn't also feel pessimistic. 1- So do I. 2- Same here.

  3. ... Which was the exact point I raised earlier... AFAIAA, roytam1 has not (yet?) submitted any PR upstream, nor do I know whether he has any inclination to do so in the future ... And whether such an eventual PR relates to common code (between "our" UXP-fork and the "upstream" platform) or not, "upstream" do mandate that all issues & PRs submitted to their repo have been reproduced/tested on their "approved" application(s)... Some years ago, when MCP hosted their repos on GitHub, I had directly filed there a few issues discovered in NM28, with the note "I expect them to be 100% reproducible in PM, too"... All Moonchild had to do was try my STR in "his" browser; instead, I was frowned upon, my report disregarded, until I provide actual proof of the issue on PM itself ... I couldn't run PM in my OS of choice, so I then gave up ...

  4. ... While I am notoriously "famous" here for writing (and posting!) lengthy and detailed analyses, especially in the past, time constraints induced by RL (AstroSkipper: Real Life ) meant that often now I have to convey the info I want by referencing related link(s) - the info is there, just "not in my very own words" ...

  5. By the way, in defense of those who don't click through on every link posted in this thread.... One of my pet peeves is people who write posts with little or nothing besides a link. (Not saying that was done in this case; just making a general point.) The point of linking (indeed, the World Wide Web itself) is to provide further information for those who need or want more detail. Obviously it's a judgement call, but try not to let links become a substitute for conveying the basics - put that much info, at least, in your post itself! Of course, if MSFN could "unfurl" links to sites other than MSFN itself, thus providing a preview when warranted, that would help a lot.

  6. Since I don't get over here all that often these days, when I first read "When PH stops working," my first thought was ProofHub, a developer's site I have to use at work - which actually did stop working with the Christmas Eve update! Then I read further, and without clicking on any links except the erroneous Wikipedia article (which didn't make sense - in context, PH was obviously a Web site, not that 0-14 number that tells you how sour or bitter your solution will taste) I remembered the PM forum thread (which I had, indeed, read). Then I wondered, why the abbreviation PH, but not the abbreviation YT? As @VistaLover pointed out, porn is one of the most common uses of the World Wide Web - nothing to be ashamed of! Absolutely true, but not an answer to the question. Nothing @roytam1 is doing is holding MC back. There's no reason for hostility now that MAT has left. Indeed, since @feodor2 has shown (with MyPal 68) that it's possible for the Rust compiler to target XP, there's no reason XP and Vista can't have a version of, say, Waterfox Classic. You know, the browser that supports both legacy and WE add-ons. (That said, I don't know if Waterfox Classic has kept up with all the JavaScript enhancements MCP has incorporated into UXP lately, so UXP may still be the best non-Chrome-based choice for XP/Vista users.) the site opens in 12 seconds versus 16 seconds with a user agent from Firefox 60. There's probably a logical (albeit obscure) reason for this behavior, but if one were a bit paranoid, (s)he might think YouTube was deliberately slowing itself down on non-Chrome-based browsers! (Trying to be careful here to avoid being flamed again)

  8. ... All's good! However, looking back at all this, the "decision" of one member here to "shorten" (in order to "sanitise") a reference to a, otherwise popular , website has led to so many additional posts by other members here, including me, that only remotely (if at all) touch the subject of this thread ... Posts "exploded" to all aspects of human endeavour, i.e. natural sciences, history, linguistics, particular aspects of specific languages, education, Roman numerals, coins, ethics/morality, psychic health, addictions, human relationships/[pre-]sex, anything else I neglected? Even suggestions to not "avalanche" to further OT posts were disregarded, it appears... Each and every one of the above is a very interesting topic to converse about , however I humbly think here is not the most appropriate "place"; I, as much as anybody, can live with "a few" OT comments among a majority of posts with substance/relevance to the main subject(s) discussed in a dedicated thread; more than "a few" and I picture "trains de-railed" ... At the same time, some members here wonder why "these" threads reach so quickly the 200-page threshold ... (I'm also subscribed to these threads via e-mail notifications, "OT" posts also cram my inbox (and disk space, as I use a dedicated client, not webmail), so even more personal time needed to devote on sorting out the "valuable" from the "OT" e-mails...) Again, this is only my personal view on things, I don't expect all the rest to abide by it, but I'm entitled to it, aren't I? (NB: Don't do it; don't start another "OT avalanche" due to this post of mine; "reactions" (positive, only) are there for a reason.)

  16. Dave, I know you are not receiving notifications and I hope you don't see me as harassing you to come back, its only out of concern for you and I genuinely miss you. The videos you used to send me actually talking to me meant more than you'll even know and I still remember when you said I was (am) as real as the sun shining through your window. Please know I still am. Actually I remember when you told me to walk up to trees and feel the energy and being 100% Unstable in an 100% unstable society is normal. You've been with when during psychosis and when I was suicidal and you never judged me during these times and I was so happy to be there for you when you visited your mother and I'm SO SORRY I was not with you the last 2 years, but I was in no shape to be a friend to anybody. Some days are ok and most days are not if I'm being honest with you. Will write more later.

  20. Understanding Nebulae And Their Colors Nebulae are some of the most beautiful features in the universe. They are simply clouds of gas and dust in space. Some nebulae are the birthplace of stars, such as the Orion Nebula, some are the remains of dead stars such as planetary nebulae and supernova remnants, and some are mixtures of several different types of nebulae. What makes them beautiful is the colors...

  26. That would be a NIGHTMARE for my way of doing things. I block iframes and those "preview" boxes are done via iframes. I would have to bypass several walls of defense just to see the "preview" box. Same goes for when a few members post "nocookie" YouTube liks. And since I have to bypass several walls of defense, I just move on and consider the topic not worth my time - which "most" of the time is an accurate assessment.

Feb 10, 2023 NASA’s NuSTAR Telescope Reveals Hidden Light Shows on the SUN Here: https://www.nasa.gov/feature/jpl/nasa-s-nustar-telescope-reveals-hidden-light-shows-on-the-sun -compare to nice colors of Twin Jet Nebula – Minkowski 2-9 - Constellation: Ophiuchus The Twin Jet Nebula, or PN M2-9, is a striking example of a bipolar planetary nebula. Bipolar planetary nebulae are formed when the central object is not a single star, but a binary system, Studies have shown that the nebula’s size increases with time, and measurements of this rate of increase suggest that the stellar outburst that formed the lobes occurred just 1200 years ago. 28. OK, so Pegasus v4.80 works on XP, but 4.81 beta requires Vista. Well, at least we're getting close! It's pretty unusual to find software that installs on Vista but not XP. Most developers dropped both at the same time and moved up to Win 7. One other product I know that runs on Vista but not XP is Firefox 53. But it can be patched to run on XP with XomPie. Makes me wonder if Pegasus 4.81 can be patched as well. OTOH, maybe they'll fix it for XP. (I'm guessing 4.80 does not do OAuth2.) Of course, that's only half the battle. To work with Micro$oft 365, it needs not only to support OAuth2, but also to be registered with Microsoft 365 as an email client. This is the real show-stopper for XP email clients, which are likely to be individual developers these days (the big corporations having moved on long ago): you have to register your email client with every major email service that has mandated OAuth2: Google, Micro$oft, Yahoo, etc. Edit: Well, it looks like Pegasus 4.81 is a no-go. I tried it on my home machine (Win 7) and it supports OAuth2 for Gmail only. Not Micro$oft 365. Of course, once they have OAuth2 "down pat," they can presumably add other email services. So they may add 365 in 4.82. But until then, it does me no good. BTW, the Pegasus 4.81 installer rebooted my PC with no warning! This is very bad - I could've been in the middle of something important and lost it all! (Of course they say "exit all other apps before installing," but everyone says that, nobody does it, and everybody else gives you a "Restart Later" option.)

  29. Actually, unrelated to what we've been discussing here... The multiple [1888] WARNING: file already exists but should not: C:\DOCUME~1\nico\LOCALS~1\Temp\_MEI18882\Cryptodome\* warnings are a manifestation of a very recent bug, which I have reported here (possibly related to the new "ways" PyCryptodome[x] is imported at yt-dlp's runtime and, thus, the "new" ways the module is being packed by PyInstaller) ... Even your very own compiles are being affected by that bug: https://github.com/nicolaasjan/yt-dlp/releases/download/2023.02.09.051430/yt-dlp_x86.exe https://github.com/nicolaasjan/yt-dlp/releases/download/2023.02.11.092312/yt-dlp_x86.exe (One needs Vista SP2+ [32 and/or 64-bit] to test these). The bug may be exclusive to the GitHub Actions compiled builds, because the ones I prepare myself locally (with CPython 3.7.16), as well as your "manual" build "yt-dlp_x86_Windows-XP.zip", do not exhibit this bug ... Sometimes I wish the yt-dlp devs left the code "at peace" for awhile, in a good-working-state... "Shouldn't fix what isn't broken" comes to mind... But what do I know (except for stumbling on bugs ) ?

  33. I'm safe in my home for the most part, people leave me alone but outside there is hate and disdain and I don't speak much anymore to people because I'm fearful I will be beaten up for just breathing the same air as them; but yeah, I know I pass judgment on others when I don't really know and thank heavens there are no Russians here. I'm one of the oldest here now, only 3 others and they don't know me and I sort of want to keep it that way as I wouldn't be a good friend to anybody in this shape. Nobody would want to be around me, but I don't want to change for others (that is stupid) only myself and to make my life pleasant.

  41. KB971512 was a Platform Update component (one of four) and KB2117917 was Platform Update Supplement. I assumed he already had all the Vista updates in his collection, since he only asked about Server 2008 updates - but you’re right: those were the most important updates between SP2 and EOL. The IE9 standalone installer actually includes both of those.
    1 point
  42. You want updates that are “needed” or “essential” for what purpose? If you just want to install the extended kernel, then TSNH is an authority (see his Guide - Vista extended kernel installation). However, if you are a security fanatic who believes that Windows must be “fully patched,” then I’m afraid it’s rather late to call yourself a “legacyfan.” I never discuss ESU updates released after January 2020 that were intended for enterprise customers who paid for an ESU license, but I can tell you that they are ending in January 2023. You won’t find those in greenhillmaniac’s repository, which I believe was last updated in December 2019. If I understand correctly, there will soon be no current patches for anything older than Windows 10; and Microsoft never stated that patches released in previous decades are sufficient to keep Windows secure. It is perhaps worth mentioning that Microsoft sounded an especially loud alarm about the BlueKeep vulnerability (CVE-2019-0708). It might therefore be advisable to install the update that Microsoft expressly suggested at the link. I believe the monthly rollups were cumulative, so any rollup released after May 2019 should serve just as well. For those who would rather not bother, disabling the Terminal Services service was the suggested mitigation.
