  2. @AstroSkipper ReBaseImage updates the timestamp inside PE header, which also effects calculated checksum, also written in the header, so only these two fields will differ if everything else is identical. So, TimeDateStamp field of IMAGE_FILE_HEADER and CheckSum field of IMAGE_OPTIONAL_HEADER (https://0xrick.github.io/win-internals/pe4/). Hm, LiBase's default config assumes DLL that is not bigger than 1 MB (relevant for putting multiple DLLs through the process). Edit: Actually, the function takes that timestamp as the parameter. LiBase just uses the result of standard time() function with NULL as the parameter, so current time. But if you pass 0 to ReBaseImage, it will increment the currently stored timestamp in the executable by one second.

  4. Thanks, I'm an old cat (MEOW!) who knows some tricks...took me a while to remember though. Hello @mixit! You are absolutely right! I also tried to rebase the chrome.dll of 360Chrome 13.5.1030 rebuild 6 and failed. Only after removing the file signature with your recommended tool delcert, I was able to rebase this chrome.dll, too. Thanks for your tip! Yes, most work is done by ReBaseImage function, which checks for digital signature and bails out if it exists. It's logical when you think about it, when you digitally sign the executable, you seal it for release and don't change it anymore afterwards. It's possible to write own function for rebasing if you like to crunch through the executable manually. I think it was the chrome.dll from the version 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 rebuild 3. @NotHereToPlayGames's rebuild 3, regular build, here's the ungoogled one. I'm sure @NotHereToPlayGames will include the rebased version in next rebuild. I would assume it should be. Hold on, have to get back home from work, lunch and so on, I'll check it later.

  5. This rebasing is VERY exciting news! Can't thank the "team" enough! I can't test until back home, but I'm starting to think that the rebase is why my multi-monitor setup at home crashes first launch and first launch only if I remove the Vulkan .dll's. Would also prove interesting to compare rebased 1030 with rebased 2022.

  6. This browser is starting to go from a need to use to want to use. I think, folks, we in this next release - with the help of @UCyborg, and, @mixit - we'll see a FANTASTIC build/release and one that we should promote. If @NHTPG can fix that minor blip in the address bad when the text vanishes away and you need to re type at first launch, people will be fighting to get their hands on this new awesome piece of software! A privacy focused friendly light weight browser. Even better than ungoogled chrome; period! :

  13. I think it was the chrome.dll from the version 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 rebuild 3. I also downloaded @UCyborg's rebased chrome.dll to compare it to mine. The sizes (of original and rebased chrome.dll) match in any case, and it works.

  16. For me, Dencorso was the soul of this place from when I first started visting here til he slowly waned from the forum. He was the first one to reply to my first post/thread here, and to my great surprise pinned it moments later! I remember back during the 2017 crisis situation of the forum possibly disappearing, he'd PM people in charge of projects and pinned threads to make backups of everything important and be ready to regroup elsewhere to keep this community alive. I wish I'd talked to him more, but that's entirely on me... I'm not going to repeat all the good things that have already been said above about this exceptional person, but I would like to paraphrase Den's next-to-last status update (which I think in itself can be considered the manifesto of current MSFN). Indeed EoL != EoS (in this case End of Spirit) and the spirit of Dencorso can be kept alive here for as long as we all care to. May he rest in peace.

  21. Hello @UCyborg! I compared your chrome.dll to my rebased one. The sizes are the same but the hashes are different. I thought libase uses the hash from the original dll file for rebasing. So why are the hashes different? Is it also dependent on the system? Or did you perform the rebasing manually with specific addresses?

  25. True. This is why a lot of software is still Vista or later in 2022: Ice Cream Reader, FireAlpaca, SumatraPDF, Panda security, and a lot of lesser-known software. Under the hood, it's extremely similar to 7. I'm sure many developers don't really have a good reason to go onto newer IDE's if all they are is more bloat.

  26. Been meaning to post these @feodor updates from the Russian-language forum, because sooner or later someone's going to ask again. December 4: December 14: I presume he means that heavy parallel disk activity during builds is causing disk corruption when power is suddenly cut, so building on a RAM disk would help with that.

  27. How To Be Happy At Christmas (10 Tips For Beating The Holiday Blues) “Oh Santa may have brought you some stars for your shoes. But Santa only brought me the blues; Those brightly packaged tinsel covered Christmas blues.” ~ written and performed by Sammy Cahn and David Jack Holt For many, the Holidays are not happy times. They are filled with stress, anxiety, loneliness, despair, discouragement or a sharp case of the holiday blues. But they don’t have to be. There can be so much more joy in the Christmas season than you think. There are, in fact, specific steps you can take to have a happier, more meaningful Christmas this year, even if circumstances are not ideal. The following are some of those steps. 10 ways to have a Merry Christmas 1. Connect to the Deeper Meaning of the Season On the surface of things, it seems Christmas has become little more than a day of getting stuff—an over-commercialized sales-event of high profits and crazed consumerism. Hardly the inspiration to delve deeper into the soul of the occasion. But Christmas can provide us with a variety of levels of depth and meaning no matter how Vegas-like Christmas has become. From family togetherness with gift exchanges and Christmas traditions to the original celebration of the birth of Jesus, as believers rededicate our lives to living a Christ-like life of faith and virtue to the popular celebration of the giving spirit of the holiday, there’s something deeply meaningful for almost everyone. By connecting to the deeper meaning of the season, your Christmas celebration can itself be deeper, more meaningful, and therefore more perspective-shifting and happiness-inspiring. 2. Serve Someone Sadness is inward-looking. Service is its opposite. So go make someone else’s life better, and watch what happens to yours. Joy will start to replace sorrow. Meaning and purpose will begin to reinsert itself into the holiday experience. Self-pity will give way to a growing appreciation for the bounty of life. The service can be as big as joining a group dedicated to large service projects or as small as random acts of kindness in your neighborhood. Even wishing clerks and others waiting in long holiday lines a “Merry Christmas” can lift their moods, add smiles to tired faces—and chase away your own Christmas blues. 3. Celebrate the Season with Forgiveness Of all the gifts you give this year, perhaps the most meaningful and life-changing will be the gift of forgiveness you offer someone who has offended you. And here’s the surprise: You will likely benefit the most from forgiving than the person you forgive; it’s as much a gift to yourself as it is to the offender. 4. Make it Fun and Festive Get out the lights. Put up the tree. Blast the tunes. Decorate. Dance around the house. Invite others over to dance with you. Sing carols. Pour a glass of eggnog (FYI: Silk has a great-tasting, eggless, dairy-free soy-based eggnog we love to drink in our home). Pop some popcorn. Watch a funny holiday movie (Elf is our favorite). Laugh out loud. Get into the season. Don’t wait around for the season to get into you! Jump into it head-first and it won’t take long before you find the season has snuck in the backdoor—or crashed through the front! Get out the lights. 5. Create a New “Family” If sadness overwhelms the holidays because of loss or divorce or estrangement or distance, start now to create a new “family” of friends you can celebrate Christmas with. If you don’t make friends very quickly, join a club and volunteer to participate on special projects. It’s often in such settings where people with shared interests and values engaged in meaningful service that relationships grow fastest. But whatever you do, try to get together with others. No matter what happened to your family, whether decades ago or just last weekend, you can start to invite people into your life today. Or try this: If you’re feeling alone this Christmas, go volunteer at a homeless shelter or food line. Check with local churches, the city or volunteer organizations for information about when and where to show up. It just may change how you “celebrate” Christmas forever. 6. Do what You Love Sometimes when we feel down, we mope around the house feeling sorry for ourselves and wonder why others don’t come by and pull us out of our funk. Well, stop waiting! Be your own funk-breaker! Paint. Run. Climb. Sing. Swim. Serve. Learn. Play. Give. And watch what starts to happen to your holiday spirit. 7. Become the Neighborhood’s Secret Santa Bake some cookies. Buy some gift-cards. And start secretly making your neighbors’ day. Put a plate of cookies on a doorstep or put Christmas cards on the windshields of cars in your community. Or, of course, personally deliver the cookies or cards to your neighbors yourself. 8. List all the Things that are Wonderful in Your Life We often tend to over-exaggerate the negative and under-accentuate the good. We’re just funny that way. But taking the time to write down all that’s sweet in life can act to underscore the good and paint a picture that’s not quite as dour as we would otherwise believe. Gratitude is contagious. So do all you can to catch it. Then spread it. Liberally! I guarantee a happier Christmas season for the effort. 9. Get Up, Get Dressed, Get Out! Some of the symptoms of depression include oversleeping, staying in bed, undressed, un-showered, self-ostracized. But such behaviors also cause the blues. They feed each other. When we’re down, we don’t get up and dressed. But when we don’t get up and dressed, we often feel worse. and do something. Anything. But do it without alcohol. The blues and alcohol (a depressant) is not a match made in heaven. 10. Put Yourself on Santa’s “Nice” List As you’re out doing good to others, spreading Christmas cheer, spread some to yourself as well. Buy yourself a gift. Make it meaningful. Enjoy it. Be grateful you can afford it (no matter how inexpensive it may be). Believe you deserve it. Have fun with it. And then believe you were worth every penny you spent … and then some! Bonus #11: Have No Expectations Our biggest cause of disappointment is when our expectations are not met. If you go into the season thinking this time things are going to be different, that no one will argue or get drunk or make offensive comments, that this Christmas will be the best one ever, and it’s not, the day will be a letdown, even if it was still mostly pretty okay! If you expect little or nothing, anything good will be a wonderful surprise! Having no expectations, by the way, is not the same thing as expecting the worse. I’m not suggesting we go into the Christmas holidays expecting the most disastrous Christmas ever with uncles swearing and aunts falling down drunk, the tree catching fire and the house burning down. When we expect disaster, after all, we sometimes inadvertently help create it. But to be without expectations is to be open to whatever happens. It is to accept whatever is, as it is, for what it is. When we impose judgment and expectation on something outside our control – like how others will behave – we try to massage the event into a preconceived vision. The difference between the reality and the vision becomes frustration, anger and disappointment. Afterthoughts Christmas is supposed to be an amazing time of the year, full of family, significance, good people and a recommitment to service and kindness and good cheer. It’s fun and sparkly and festive and celebratory. It’s also deep and profound and joyous and holy. There are ways of making this Christmas more so on all accounts. But remember, good ideas are only as good as their implementation. So resist the temptation to nod your head in agreement, click to another post and summarily forget the tips provided. Instead, take action today toward making your Christmas holiday season more enjoyable, happier and meaningful this year.

  29. I can upload my chrome.dll for others to try. It should make the difference in case you currently see chrome.dll in orange in Process Hacker when you open 360chrome.exe and go to Modules tab (should no longer be orange with the old new DLL). At least the chance is very low that it still fails to load at its new address, if it does fail, it'll be orange again (bad!).

  30. Seems chrome.dll needs to be rebased. It uses the default preferred base address used by MS build tools (which is constant) and is unable to be loaded at its preferred base address on my XP and the DLL itself is huge, so it seems logical if the OS has to duplicate huge chunk of it in every chrome.exe process to be able to fix-up addresses inside, that would be costly in terms of memory. I did rebasing when I patched old games (at least those I've spent most time working on) that used DLLs, which were small and these games don't spawn multiple processes. Back then I found the tool that chose the address based on the name of the DLL with optional INI file to specify base address and separation (how much apart they should be in the address space). I think the idea is to line up DLLs of your application at higher addresses, preventing conflicts with each other or another system softwares' / utilities' DLLs so OS doesn't have to rebase them at load time. Having them loaded in upper portion of the address space should leave large contiguous space for memory allocations. Some interesting reading here and here. There's the hint why you don't see the issue on Vista+. Anyway, here's the tool (libase.zip), it's in the Release subfolder, have both chrome.dll (from Chrome\Application\13.5.2022.0 folder) and libase.exe in the same folder, open CMD, cd to that folder and run: libase chrome.dll Copy chrome.dll back, launch the browser and check the memory consumption. No idea where the tool was originally published and who wrote it, I think it came only in source code form and I wrapped it inside Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 (another dinosaur) workspace file and compiled it. Microsoft has their own tool in their compiler suite that can also rebase executables and DLLs (reference). So it's an issue that is easily fixable, but not many people seem to pay attention to such details. Rebasing other browser's DLLs should also save a little bit of memory. Well, I do assume things at times.

  33. Yeah that was already a very possible scenario years ago, since Windows 8 and 8.1 usage isn‘t as high as Windows 7. That‘s also the reason why they don‘t offer ESU for 8.1 devices. However, 8.1 is closer to 10 than 7, which makes some things easier to backport to 8.1 than to 7, just like it was the case with XP and Vista. Vista is obviously way more identical to 7 than XP, which made some things much easier

  34. Did you guys just make a bunch of assumptions about me using proxy? I use Proxomitron, mostly for modding the web application I use at work. Would have to ditch Pale Moon there completely if it wasn't for Proxomitron replacing one bad JS file developers introduced for their own convenience / consistency with other code, nothing but syntactic sugar for having definitions for some objects on the client-side (JavaScript) close to the definitions on the server-side (C#). That thing still has few glitches, like one dialog opens with 1,5-2s delay if certain option is set in it and another draggable dialog made with jQuery, since certain version, has a funny glitch, the dialog has few drop-down menus, one with a lot of entries has the scrollbar and if I try to drag the scrollbar, thw whole dialog is dragged instead... I also have to unset a bunch of redundant CSS properties on the menu bar, because at least one of them is causing another bizarre glitch, when something changes on the page, it causes menu bar's height to change. It's funny to watch when you open the hardware page where you can open the status of any working connected controller, which refreshes once per second and then every second menu bar's height increases, so it would eventually expand down over the entire screen. And other pages may open with the wrong bar height. Of course, nobody notices because system requirement is "latest and greatest" Firefox / Chrome. Edit: Maybe, there are other members here who can confirm or refute my theory. I would be very interested! I've got AMD with only 4 real cores, no difference in RAM consumption between running Chrome on all cores or just a single one, except responsiveness takes a noticeable hit running on one core (affinity setting). Edit2: Right, reading again, I don't qualify for the test.

  36. Very depressing news.. I had feared for the worst for some time now, given that he had not been active here, and had not responded to messages I sent previously. Den was one of the few people "online" who I considered a true friend, and I will sorely miss his presence here. While I had not spoken much with him over the past couple of years (where does the time go? ), he was always helpful and always ready to give clear insight on whatever issue we discussed. He was very wise, and not only on the subject of computers. While not the subject of this forum, he understood historical and political nuances that befuddle most. I believe my first interaction with him revolved around problems with a flash drive.. and IIRC by the time it was over the discussion included rloew and jaclaz as well. Now of these greats only jaclaz remains with us. I never expected to become one of the "old ones" - yet here I am. My pitiful knowledge can never live up to the bar set by Den and others, and I will never be the "diplomat" that he could be when dealing with differing viewpoints and difficult members. I know that this forum and the collection of knowledge that it represents mattered to him, so let us all work to continue and preserve it in memory of him. Rest in peace my friend. You will not be forgotten.

  37. I forgot to mention that I believe this BAT file can be used with any Chromium-based browser (As I think user data folders on them are similar). You would have to edit it so the executable and the user data folder of the browser match the ones of the browser you are using.

  38. In relation to the post made by @dmiranda on page 11 on AF's 360EE version shared (I am lazy to link the exact comment), I've made a little BAT file to execute the browser (it has to be on the same folder as the "360chrome.exe" file to work). Due to all the files this browser makes I thought it would be a good idea to write this kind of script to remove files after browser execution (it also removes 2 registry entries that the browser creates when executed, they can be seen at the end of the code). I tested it a little so I don't know if any files I set to be deleted are actually important. Some of you might already know which files are preferrable to be deleted so if you want to share which can be, then, that would be great (as well as registry entries created by the browser). I set it up so in case you run the browser with a custom profile folder you just change the "profile" variable to whatever that profile is. To avoid the CMD window poping on screen everytime you run it you can follow these steps (post #5) (the CMD window will still exist but minimized by default) Cheers. @echo off :: ======================================= :: run "360chrome.exe" file with arguments :: ======================================= 360chrome.exe --disable-component-update :: ======================================================= :: files and folders to be deleted after browser execution :: ======================================================= cd ".\User Data" :: folders rmdir "ShaderCache" /S /Q rmdir "Webstore Downloads" /S /Q rmdir "temp" /S /Q rmdir "PnaclTranslationCache" /S /Q :: files del *.log del mconfig :: Set "profile" folder set profile=Default :: Inside "profile" folder profile del "%profile%\*.tmp" del "%profile%\*.ldb" del "%profile%\*.log" del "%profile%\360Bookmarks" del "%profile%\Google Profile.ico" del "%profile%\heavy_ad_intervention_opt_out.db" del "%profile%\*-journal" del "%profile%\LOCK" del "%profile%\LOG*" del "%profile%\MANIFEST*" del "%profile%\README" del "%profile%\Secure Preferences" del "%profile%\Shortcuts" del "%profile%\Sync360_V8.sqlite3" del "%profile%\TransportSecurity" del "%profile%\Visited Links" del "%profile%\Web Data" del "%profile%\CURRENT" del "%profile%\Network Action Predictor" del "%profile%\Network Persistent State" del "%profile%\QuotaManager" del "%profile%\Top Sites" del "%profile%\previews_opt_out.db" del "%profile%\History Provider Cache" rmdir "%profile%\AutofillStrikeDatabase" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\blob_storage" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\DailyBackup" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\data_reduction_proxy_leveldb" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\databases" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Extension Rules" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Extension State" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Feature Engagement Tracker" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\File System" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\GPUCache" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\IndexedDB" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Platform Notifications" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Service Worker" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\shared_proto_db" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Site Characteristics Database" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\VideoDecodeStats" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Extensions\Temp" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Session Storage" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Download Service" /S /Q rmdir "%profile%\Thumbnails" /S /Q :: ====================================================== :: Registry entries to be deleted after browser execution :: ====================================================== reg delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\360" /f reg delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\360Chrome" /f
