  2. A truly portable program would not write anything on its own in the registry in the first place, though. And naturally, it's expected you can put a portable program on a USB flash stick, launch it on any computer while retaining all user data.

  3. Yep! You're absolutely right! Unfortunately, the 360Chrome browsers have never been truely portable and 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022, either. Therefore, the designation 360ChromePortable_13.5.2022_rebuild_3_ungoogled_MSFN.zip is rather a little misleading.

  5. 360chrome is portable as in : it removes regedit entry's when closed. and all data is retained in the 360chrome folder. encrypted data ( passwords and such ) are not "portable" from one pc to another. that is a chrome / windows security "feature". some reading : https://portableapps.com/node/21266 as for chrome waking sleep drives : more reading : https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=68655 old chromium bug could still be present. no data is send anywhere and no unwanted connections are made.

  12. Quite by accident, I got it to work! I went back to IceDove and suddenly, it started working. I had the protocol just set to "Normal Password," so there must be something about the interaction with the Office 365 mail server that automatically triggers OAuth2. Then I went back to IceApe, set it up there, and it worked there too! I haven't gone back and tried MailNews again, but I bet the trick is simply to select "Normal Password" rather than explicitly selecting "OAuth2," which I assume is only needed for things like Yahoo Mail. Here are the settings I used in IceApe/IceDove that worked: The user name needs to be the full email address, including the domain, so Office 365 knows which server to direct the client to in order to validate my password. At the moment, neither do I. My XP system is at work, so I've been downloading and testing these email clients on my Windows 7 home system. Obviously the "acid test" will come Monday when I return to work and try to set it up on IceApe on Windows XP.

  13. Thanks for getting back to me @Dave-H. I enjoyed this thread and it helped me very much but i probably won't post much anymore. Seems strange to lock an on-topic thread in a slow forum. Thread lock requests, closed door discussions, arbitrary post deletion and title renames without comment or consultation. Seems underhanded but nothing surprises me anymore. If this thread doesn't meet someone's needs, it's pretty easy to ignore. It's also pretty easy for another member to start a new topic catering exactly to what they require. Sad, leaves a sour taste. To the thread lock requester, shame on you, please learn to share space and co-habitate with fellow humans. Feel free to lock the thread it doesn't matter anymore, but please have the decency to keep this post. Thank-you to all who participated here in the last few years. I learned a lot and have some very good running Windows 98 systems.

  14. As far as I'm concerned, as a user, not a moderator, all that matters to me is that this browser works on almost all sites, and runs fine on XP. If it's still sending telemetry to foreign servers, despite all of the efforts of @NotHereToPlayGames, then so what? I bet it's still no worse than using the 'latest and greatest' browsers on Windows 10 and 11, which millions are doing, sending masses of usage data to servers in the States and elsewhere. If 360Chrome is sending it to China and/or Russia, they can fill their boots as far as I'm concerned. I hope they choke on it! Unless and until anyone proves to me that 360Chrome can legitimately be considered to be any form of serious malware, I will continue to use it without a thought. There's a very fine line between legitimate security concerns and paranoia.

  18. You do not have to repeat anything to me. Try WiseVector StopX yourself or leave it! If you want to know which actions and accesses are performed by the 360Chrome browsers, you have to check and analyze it yourself.

  19. All 360Chrome browser editions (including 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022) I have tested on my Windows XP system cause BSODs due to my AV program WiseVector StopX which seems to try stopping strange accesses and behaviour of these browsers. I had to add them completely to both exclusions lists (general and advanced) in WiseVector StopX what I usually do not need to do with other browsers, otherwise these 360Chrome browsers would continue generating BSODs and would be unusuable for me. Frankly, I am not happy with that and use them only if necessary. Not to mention the enormous consumption of system resources, especially with regard to the browser edition of this thread, 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022.

  20. Probablly the same issue I have with XP x64, the difference it's that x86 always runs, while x64 hangs randomly during boot. It's a long shot, but I think the issue may be related to where Windows stores processor definitions (limited size)? Vista and later versions are not affected by this too many cores issue.

  22. Not really. Portability has nothing to do with leftovers that are not affecting the functionality. The first one is called "standalone". The portable is the second one. The word "portable" is then misleading: that is STANDALONE installation. And it has nothing to do with "windows security "feature"", since all really portable browser installations (such as old firefox and opera) do not have this pervert "security feature". Though it may leave registy entry, for instanse, if you assign it as default browser. Very strange reaction from developers: it is difficult to reproduce, really? And then just silently closed as "obsolete", huh... looks more like intentional "feature", and very few people actually care... No, really: how many users do actually care about botnet on their PCs, if it does not overheat the CPU more, then antivirus-spyguard-blah-blah-security-feature, that reports nothing?
    1 point
  23. Nicely said ! Unfortunately it seems impossible to get here since it's still based on the old russian sterter app that simply removes the registry entries and does nothing to prevent them in the first places.

  27. no clue from me in the moment since my left hand is still in a splint so it is not very feasible to do some serious development. (thats also why my porting progress from pm26 to my fx28-vc8 repo is stopped since 12 Nov) EDIT: check out this bugzilla entry: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82346 and for the issue that classilla/phoenix doesn't show up main window in win9x, I don't have any ideas for now. OT: I think I'm still lucky that my left hand had a cast for only about 48 hours then replaced with a splint so I can remove the splint and clean my left hand during my shower time.

  28. Thank you for the response! I tried to compile Firefox 1.5.0.12 on Visual C++ 5.0 so I could see where the compilation errors are, and I struggle greatly with "xpcom/ds/nsHashPropertyBag.h" and "xpcom/ds/nsHashPropertyBag.cpp". Compiling them as is results in an unresolved external. Trying to use "xpcom/ds/nsHashtable.h", instead of "xpcom/glue/nsInterfaceHashtable.h" results in many errors relating to a conversion error from "class nsHashKey *" to "const class nsAString_internal *" if I remember correctly. Firefox 1.0 and earlier do not have those files, and Mozilla 1.4.4 relies very heavily (exclusively?) on "xpcom/ds/nsHashtable.h", so XPCOM sources will build with very little trouble on Visual C++ 5.0. Surprisingly enough, PDP switches in Makefiles in Firefox 1.5.0.12 do not cause build errors even on Visual C++ 5.0. If you could tell me how to use an object directory in Mozilla 1.4.4 and Firefox 1.0? (similar to "mk_add_options MOZ_OBJDIR=@TOPSRCDIR@/obj-fx95-release in RetroZilla), that would be lovely.

  29. Well, sorry to be telling this, but it does not seem to be neither portable nor free of some "spying" features. First, when I start it from different drive on different system - it loses all cookies (=all settings and registration on sites). And when I move it back again - the same, it loses all new and does not find old ones. Second, I have a "cold storage" drive in my system, which is almost all the time in "sleep" mode. When I start this browser - it wakes up that drive. What for? None of other browsers neither other SW I use does not do so. Very strange behaviour.

  31. Correct, EOL is on February 2023 (if you saw this discussion), but it's not just Chrome and Edge (which is Chromium-based, so, not a surprise it's going EOL like Chrome), it's also for other Chromium-based browsers like Opera, Vivaldi, Brave and many others. Can't speak for Yandex though, but I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to support Windows 7 for 1 additional year (that is, until 2024), like they did with Windows XP and Vista. (Google ended Chrome support for XP and Vista since April 2016, whereas Yandex ended support of their browser for XP and Vista since April 2017)

  32. It appears MCP is working on adding it to UXP (New Moon 28, Serpent 52). It's partially implemented and @roytam1 has been adding the fixes to Serpent 55 too. This was from just two months ago: So CustomElements may get finished. That said, it's a big job and there's no guarantee it'll be complete anytime soon. In the meantime, you can turn to the Palefill add-on to fill in some of what's missing for some Web sites. On your Win 7 system(s) you have more options: in addition to Edge, you have Chrome, modern Firefox, official Pale Moon, official Basilisk (now under new ownership), Waterfox and Waterfox Classic, etc. I assume Chrome and Edge are both going EOL but the last Win 7 version will still work with modern web sites for some time.

  34. I like @win32's approach. He knows what he does. There's no need to add literally every crap the higher numbered OSes have, only need to add the ones that demanded to start a given app. I'm sorry you got rejected.

  35. There will be some updates and new dll functions soon, as more users reporting the missing functions from the new modern softwares and drivers. But unfortunately the development takes so long time so that you will spend too much time to wait for it. I would contribute for the Vista Extended Kernel, but I want to report the new functions from Windows 7, 8, and 10 at once instead of the missing needed functions from Dependency Walker of the each software only. But I'm rejected because of this way. @win32 I'm so sorry.

  36. I didn't remove it from tree or disable it with compile-time switch so OAuth2 should be still available in MN and IA/ID. for ID/IA, OAuth2 front-end code is unimplemented so only MN can do OAuth2.

  37. Hello @Mathwiz! MailNews is based on Interlink Mail & News from Binary Outcast. I read on their website that they seem to have removed the protocol OAuth2 from their email client. Here is the respective link: https://binaryoutcast.com/projects/interlink/release-notes/ Of course, this does not necessarily mean that MailNews no longer supports this protocol, either. It's just a theory! I don't know what @roytam1 exactly did when he built his latest releases of MailNews. Some weeks ago, I was also looking for an email client and found the program OE Classic which is supposed to support the OAuth2 protocol as well: https://www.oeclassic.com/ This is the one I'll try the next time. Maybe, it is what you are looking for. Kind regards, AstroSkipper

  43. @XP4ever I have also an normal Lenovo x230 notebook. On this notebook I make the same experience as you. After I installed under XP SP3 the USB3 driver, it was impossible to work with it any longer. And this behavior cant be reverted by deinstalling the USB2,3 driver. Now I think, that the Intel chipset driver for USB2 and any USB3 driver are incompatible. You have to make a new install of XP on this notebook without any chipset driver. After this, use the AMD USB3 driver 145 from @daniel_k for this notebook, Dietmar

  47. I have to say that I do work at unnamed company located in czech republic and we have around 120 computers running windows 7 enterprise with valid ESU license. So yeah.. I've clearly never been to business environment. They will be online even after the end of ESU, but we applied strict rules and we have firewall and antivirus in place as well VPN. We also have windows 10 computers ofc but they are being replaced with MacBooks mostly. oh and btw firefox ESR is the browser we use back here. Guess someone in this forum will call Czechia as Eastern europe then.
