i totally agree. The degree of cruelty and hatred being displayed toward Ukraine, especially toward the poor citizens of Mariupol, is absolutely appalling and disgusting. It must be stopped somehow! By the way, does anyone know where in Ukraine feodor2 lives? And now back to the topic at hand: That MAT is quite a tyrant! Maybe now that he's gone, the Pale Moon team can actually stop being so hostile toward anyone who dares to use it on any OS other than what they dictate.... c3 points

I didn't knew this was a thing until you mentioned it, that is the "mouse gesture" feature all these chinese browsers have integrated. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to disable it. In the kafan forums someone asked for a way to modify these gestures in a future version of the browser, so I hope they can be disabled by then. If you want to know what those shortcuts are, the extension integrated in the browser responsible of this function is this, I believe both have the same shortcuts. Replace the "iframe.srx" file depending on the version you are running with the one located in "<browser-version>\skin" folder --> https://www.mediafire.com/folder/da25kcrk6nmjd/Mute_360EE_CN_prob Cheers.2 points

Note regarding versions: The regular version will have a file name ending in _rebuild_#. Versions with a file name ending in _ungoogled disables embedded Google APIs in much the same way that "ungoogled-chromium" ( https://chromium.woolyss.com/ ) disables embedded Google APIs. The "ungoogled" version is recommended for those that prefer tighter control over a Google-based browser basically giving special treatment to Google cookies and violating user preference settings. A side effect to this approach (which also exists in "ungoogled-chromium") is that the Chrome Web Store is intentionally broken only in as far as the "Add to Chrome" button is concerned. This is great for those that prefer to manually install extensions as opposed to obtaining from the Chrome Web Store. A workaround to restore the "Add to" button (special thanks to @VistaLover for this solution) can be obtained from here -- https://github.com/NeverDecaf/chromium-web-store Mileage may vary, for me this only added the "Add to" button but clicking it only downloaded the extensions .crx (which I personally prefer anyway) as opposed to 'adding to' 360Chrome. I had similar results with official "ungoogled-chromium" on the official Chrome Web Store (restores "Add to" button but does not actually 'add to'). Special thanks to @Humming Owl for translated .png files. Special thanks to @Dixel for discussions leading towards the "ungoogled" versions. That most likely explains it. Currently I'm only running into problems with 4 or 5 sites, including github that don't render properly with 55 so for those I use the "Open with" extension to open 52. I expect over time that number will increase.1 point

Add the three pages to the Trusted Sites in IE and set the Security Level to high: http://update.microsoft.com http://www.update.microsoft.com and https://www.update.microsoft.com If the Security Level is not available, click on reset first.1 point

That extension started originally as a github-wc-polyfill fork , i.e. ONLY supporting initially GitHub/GitLab; unlike the upstream maintainer (JustOff) not wanting to support other sites beyond those two, the German maintainer (martok) of this fork will accept support requests for other sites broken in current UXP and will explore the possibility/feasibility of applying the necessary polyfills (where available) to address the breakage on those requested sites... At this very moment, the only additional (to GH/GL) site supported is "godbolt.org", while a request for "*.notion.*" URIs is still pending (but supposedly very difficult to materialise) ... https://github.com/martok/palefill/issues?q=is%3Aissue+sort%3Aupdated-desc+is%3Aopen ( ... of this "open issues" group, #3 and #6 aim to add user-side configuration options ) https://github.com/martok/palefill/issues?q=is%3Aissue+sort%3Aupdated-desc+is%3Aclosed1 point

Sorry, no! Truth to be told it's not really ok. In an very old OS you are using a very old unsupported version of IE6 and an unsecure version of ProxHTTPSProxyMII due to lacking of SHA256 capability of signing. Just for fun on some very safe sites for testing purpose only, it's ok. But for more it's just a no go. In this case you need a more recent and secure browser which supports Windows 2000. But anyway, congrats for restoring access to MU web site! The impossible is possible as you can see!1 point

Call me paranoid, but this is why I keep copies of installers for things, just so I can be sure about them I only have XPI files for the few extensions in New Moon, Mail News, etc. that I'm actually using, but I guess it's good that "they're there", now...1 point

1,885 changed files with 168,699 additions and 191,064 deletions. Was that just to make things extremely painful for fork-maintainers or did it serve some other agenda? Both of them are Basilisk/Serpent52 exclusive features (GMP/EME - as in functional DRM - broken for ages, but still useful to detect media sites that implement WidevineCDM; also useful for those few that prefer Adobe Primetime CDM's patented decoders over the ffvpx ones, on WinXP; WebRTC, despite claimed to be specs-compliant, fails to work on most WebRTC-enabled sites currently ); what are your thoughts about them in "our" UXP? ... Your thoughts on this, too, please? Let me reassure you, for the Nth time, that your constant efforts to "untangle" what MCP (currently a one-person-team) produce don't go unnoticed ; thanks once more...1 point

nevermind, found a different iso and that one worked. overall, when I choose the "ACPI PC" option, it loads up the rest of the setup, and... everything's normal. Got almost all of the drivers installed, except for sound, because IDT High Definition Audio CODEC is unsupported and I don't think there are modified drivers for it.1 point

Hi to all, to avoid unnecessary questions and problems while trying to restore access to MU web site, I have modified and updated the content of my guide "Complete guide for restoring Microsoft Update in IE". Now all steps have been fully numbered for better reference and the order has been corrected to avoid problems when completing all steps. Any assistance should be much easier now! Furthermore I think this will increase the probability of success for all people trying to follow the guide. Any opinions or suggestions for improvement are always welcome. Here is the link once again: Kind regards, AstroSkipper1 point

I picked up the belief from certain circles that depression is just the normal reaction to the way things are. Somehow you're supposed handle it 'cause you can't change the world anyway, but you may control your response. And changing yourself, even if it is actually for your own wellbeing, isn't an easy feat neither. I ended up dealing with people for the living. *Studies computers, gets people* The irony. Still in the IT field, though. People can't be bothered to read a several hundred pages manual or using CTRL + F to find what they need. And some just expect things to happen according to their will without any of their input. In private life, I have kept in touch with a friend from high school, though we don't communicate as much as in the past. I also noticed guys tend to find girlfriends and then they're suddenly "busy" with them.1 point

Wanted to give a bit of an update on this topic; after a lot of deliberation, I wound up going with the Fairphone 4 and installing /e/OS on it. I'd spent the past few months doing a lot of research into my options, and I think this might be the best option for me moving forward. I like /e/OS' philosophy of minimizing exposure to Google's data harvesting, and Fairphone's approach to giving users the ability to repair their own phones and replace the battery when required. Of course, by going this route, I was making a reeeeally expensive gamble. Both in trusting that the phone would work on a carrier of my choosing, and that I wouldn't screw up installing /e/OS and bricking a brand new $688 (at least when I bought it, ha ha inflation) phone. There's also the non-trivial issue that Fairphone only ships within Europe (and /e/'s own Murena version of the Fairphone 4 is similarly Europe-only) but I found a British company, Clove Technology, that sells the phone and ships to America. Based on Kimovil's report regarding the Fairphone 4's frequency compatibility with American cellular services, it looked like if I went with somebody who uses T-Mobile or U.S. Cellular, I would have the best odds of success. Which is serendipitous because right now it seemed one of the better deals, similar to what I had with Boost Mobile, is with a T-Mobile service called Mint Mobile. And they've got a pretty detailed coverage map that even details signal strength for varying bands for a given location. It looks as if everywhere I typically go, even on cross-country trips, will have good or fairly good coverage in the bands used by this phone. Fairphone 4 being relatively new, Mint Mobile doesn't list the model at all in their compatibility checker and the site will tell you it's not supported if you check by IEMI. However, given they do support the Fairphone 3 and also offer a low-cost week trial, I figured I'd test my luck that way. Well, I'm happy to report that not only did I not screw up the installation process for /e/OS on the Fairphone 4, but Mint Mobile's SIM card worked without a hitch! I've been able to make calls no problem and coverage seems good. With Fairphone 4 being a 5G phone, this should hopefully last me for as long as the 5G network does. Given the way /e/OS works, I haven't been able to install all the apps I use on my iPhone 5S, but that's why I'm hanging onto that phone. I've found some things to try when my iPhone is no longer able to use those apps.1 point

I'll admit, I've not followed this all that well unless I read something on here; but I will say, after seeing this, there is a huge difference between autism and personality disorder and the latter is what we are seeing. I've never had any dealing with him or MC in any way, but its always been (to me) very hostile and not at all welcoming which is why I avoided that forum. I'll stay here and am glad them don't know me and wouldn't want to. Sort of makes me wonder, how long firefox based browsers will continue.1 point

Musical anhedonia is another interesting one. Was positive I had it in my childhood/teen years. Though I realized by late teen years I do actually appreciate music in the context of movies and computer games. Regular music also at later point, but nowhere near the quantity as some other folks, who seem to be finding new stuff they like all the time. If someone asks, I say I'm not much of a music person 'cause I've no idea how that conversation is supposed to go. I was also wondering how would you call "having to use toilet every 15 min when you drive". That was the major problem after getting my driver's license and before in a lesser extent during driving lessons as well, each session lasting about 2 hours with a break at the half, which of course had to be used to take a leak as the bladder was almost full each time. Two times it happened that I couldn't make it home before I had to use the toilet again. First time was horrible as I was on "return journey" and there was no place to stop before reaching the destination. Thought it was going to explode. Awful 10 minutes. At the final destination, I went to the toilet in the nearest bar. Second time there was the bus stop on the way with some handy vegetation nearby. It's weird because there wasn't any conscious fear of driving. I only remember a mild shock going from the modern Toyota Yaris at the school to the old rusty VW Polo, which I got used to soon. The bladder problem took over a year to subside. Saw an ad about Eurojackpot recently that there's a draw two times a week now and the maximum jackpot has been increased to 120 million Euros. Holy macaroni, what a load of money.1 point

... Not quite ; JustOff is a Ukrainian national and he's now (most probably) fighting against his country's invaders (not gonna say more, as being OT to these forums)... Soon after the invasion took place, he shared maintainership of the github-wc-polyfill extension with a Chinese developer, whose GH username is SeaHOH (I don't know if I'm right but, based on my Chemistry background, I amicably refer to him as "seawater" ...) SeaHOH is a very competent master of Javascript (with a slightly worse command of the English language compared to JustOff, but, OTOH, my Mandarin is non-existent ); I've reported several bugs myself over in the GitHub issue tracker and he's been very helpful/successful at addressing them ; TL;DR: All beta and stable releases after 1.2.14b2 are the product of SeaHOH's efforts! The latest stable release, 1.2.16 , works wonders with latest Serpent v52.9.0 (2022-02-25) (32-bit); to install, visit the linked GH page, left click on the XPI link and accept the installation prompt from GitHub; else, if you want to first fetch the XPI to disk and then install, you'd have to modify manually the install.rdf file within the XPI (the maxVersion value); this has been explained repetitively inside these threads... NB: The extension requires very recent UXP browsers (New Moon/Serpent), it does nothing in Firefox ESR 52.9.x and close to nothing in recent Serpent 55.0.0 (if force-installed there). Loads and functions fine here: (latest St52+gh-wc-pf-1.2.16)1 point

This thread is a little bit confusing especially for people looking for help. So I have made a complete guide with all tips and steps which have to be performed to restore access to Microsoft Update web site and are working for me. Of course at your own risk without any guarantee! And just to clarify: I am not the author or contributor of these patches and tools. I am a user and have examined my problems while restoring MU in Windows XP. This guide is the result of my examinations to help other users. Of course I did some modifications due to the fact that some patches don't work properly or something is missing. If you want improvements of these tools and patches, please contact the authors! Complete guide for restoring Microsoft Update in IE To be successful in restoring of access to MU web site, you have to keep the order of following steps. Please, do not change this order! 1. Check BIOS and Windows date and time incl. correct time zone. Perform a time sync! 2. If you have used "WSUS server" in combination with "WUMT" in the past remove it completely by "Remove_wsus.cmd". This batch file does not work properly, so you have to remove this registry key manually: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate. You can let "Remove_wsus.cmd" perform this by adding following line (without quotes): "reg delete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /f". Start Automatic Update service. In system panel Automatic Update may not be shown greyed out. 3. Go to Windows Services. Three system services are absolutely important for MU: bits, wuauserv and cryptsvc. These services should have been started and set to automatic. 4. Configure Internet Explorer. Internet Zone to standard, Trusted Zone to high with only these three urls related to MU: http://www.update.microsoft.com, https://www.update.microsoft.com and http://update.microsoft.com. Credits to @maile3241 and @AstroSkipper. Go to Internet Explorer Options, Advanced. Check if TLS 1.2 is enabled. Uncheck entry "Check for server certificate revocation". 5. Before installing updates apply "PosReady.reg" if not already done. 6. Install these four updates KB4467770, KB4019276, KB4493435, KB942288-V3. Credits to @maile3241. 7. Apply "Tls 1.2.reg". Credits to @maile3241 8. Execute "rootsupd.exe". 9. Install the latest Windows Update Agent 7.6. It's version 7.6.7600.256. Download link: http://download.windowsupdate.com/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/7.6.7600.320/WindowsUpdateAgent-7.6-x86.exe 10. Install "ProxHTTPSProxy". Download link: https://i430vx.net/files/XP/ProxHTTPSProxyMII_REV3d_PY344.7z, credits to @heinoganda. Here you have to edit the config file "config.ini". Under section [SSL No-Verify] I added fe2.update.microsoft.com and deleted update.microsoft.com under sections [SSL Pass-Thru] and [BYPASS URL]. This is working for me. 11. Download and install one of these packages: an English all in one version, credits to @Windows7fan from MDL, @xpandvistafan, @maile3241 and @AstroSkipper from MSFN: https://drive.google.com/u/0/uc?id=1z5NGORov8OS7iBkoFVsvWOTOE1_LCjoQ&export=download or a German all in one version, based on version above, modified and updated by @AstroSkipper: https://www.mediafire.com/file/0y1zmwv8z4lch9s/Restore_WU_XP_DE.7z/file. Credits to @Windows7fan from MDL, of course. Here you have to check if "install.cmd" did its job properly i.e. all commands in "install.cmd" should have been performed completely. Additionally you have to verify the existence of patched "wuaueng.dll" in both folders system32 and system32\dllcache in form of a binary comparison.. Be aware of SFC which tries to restore an original old version of this file! After patching restart your computer and recheck! Verify if really all registry entries have been added.i All bold files mentioned here are in these all in one versions included. They can be installed manually (all registry entries of "install.cmd" have to be added manually too) or automatically by applying "install.cmd". 12. If you have problems in configuring ProxHTTPSProxy, or you get error code 0x80072f8f while trying to access MU web site, have a look in my thread: 13. Use "CAupdater" or "Certificate Updater 1.6" to update your root certificates. Download link of Certificate Updater 1.6 can be found here: 14. If the button "Check for updates" doesn't work on MU, close Internet Explorer, open MU from Start Menu again and in most cases it will load successfully. 15. If you have a fresh installation or a reinstallation of Windows XP, it seems to be necessary to install MU ActiveX Control manually because it won't be downloaded automatically any longer. Without any confirmation by me (no opportunity to check it), here is a guide how you can do that. Credits to @maile3241: 16. If on MU web page error code 0x80072F78 appears, turn off your firewall temporarily. If MU is working now, add the program "wuauClt.exe" into the exception list of your firewall and turn your firewall back on. In any case ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy must not be blocked by your firewall. Same for Internet Explorer, of course. If on MU web page other error codes appear, rename the windows folder "SoftwareDistribution" to "SoftwareDistribution.old" and let MU generate a fresh one. Maybe you have to disable a "HTTPS scanning" feature of your security software temporarily or make exclusions for MU related sites. 17. Do not use the same "DataStore.edb" in "SoftwareDistribution" for WSUS server/WUMT and MU web version. I have two DataStore.edb files, one for WSUS server and one for MU. One for all doesn't work in my system. 18. Use only http-links to open MU in IE. Direct link is http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en or http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en&g_sconsumersite=1 19. MU is only working if ProxHTTPSProxy is enabled. 20. For testing I add a link of my working ProxHTTPSProxy's config.ini: https://www.mediafire.com/file/vr1klatuzjh6v5c/ProxHTTPSProxy_-_config.ini/file 21. If completing all of these steps didn't help you at all, even after repeated execution, you may have a rather general problem relating to MU in your Windows XP installation. In this case you can try to manually reset Windows Update components. Here is my post how you can do that: After that kind of reset I recommend to perform all steps once again (from step 1 to 20 inclusive). Of course, some steps won't be necessary any more but checking which to perform or not will cost a lot of time, therefore senseless. Although I am not a friend of automatisms, I also offer a tool here to perform this reset of Microsoft or Windows Update automatically. Anyway, I recommend to backup your system partition completely at first. This tool called Reset Windows Update Tool (Script) is said to be working properly, but it has not been tested by me, so no guarantee of success and use at your own risk. The last XP compatible version is 10.5.3.7: https://www.mediafire.com/file/k48ll6e41eypogy/ResetWUEng10.5.3.7.zip/file and a less recent version 10.5.3.4 with a help file included: https://www.mediafire.com/file/wl0yrq98me8dfkj/ResetWUEng10.5.3.4.zip/file 22. If unfortunately none of all these 21 steps helped you, then you should presumably think about a complete reinstallation of Windows XP. I did all these steps (except steps 21 and 22) and for me MU is working flawlessly in my Windows XP Professional system. For further detailed instructions and missing files perform a search in this thread and enjoy the screenshots we all have uploaded! If you enjoyed this guide or maybe you found it interesting and helpful, I would be pleased about any reaction by liking or upvoting. Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper PS: This guide will no longer be maintained. It will stay here just for historical purpose. The new, maintained and up-to-date version can be found here:1 point

Good news: "Restore support of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. Windows 7 support requires that either KB3033929 or KB4474419 is installed. Windows Vista support requires that either KB4039648 or KB4474419 is installed." Although not specifically mentioned, in our beloved XP the latest version (1.25.7) works as well (tested with already present volumes/files).1 point
