What Happened to Liberty and Justice for All? (New York) ..."last night, I joined others in saying the pledge at an event. I choked up at one point. Why? It was these words: “liberty and justice for all.” Every word of that matters. Presumably liberty means that you can go places, do things, say stuff, associate as you want, worship as you choose, work, open a business, live your dreams, unimpeded by arbitrary authority – all of which has been massively compromised during the pandemic due to egregious government policies backed by mass panic. We had to give up our liberty to fight a virus, they said. And yet here we are, surrounded by ill-health, broken lives, shattered childhoods, wrecked communities, and the virus just keeps on keeping on." ... ... "As for crime, it is out of control. There’s so much of it, it is not even reported. A bar owner on the Upper East Side told me that he witnessed a thief grab a woman’s purse in front of his place. She wouldn’t let go. He dragged her down the street screaming and then turned the corner. She finally let go, scraped up and bleeding. People stood by in shock and then went on with their lives, because such scenes are completely normal. What are the cops doing? They are busy enforcing vaccine mandates. No one can go anywhere inside in this city without flashing proof of vaccination. The cops themselves will fine any business $5,000 for letting even one person in without a card, real or fake. Sometimes the cops even circle the restaurants and demand them of customers! Enjoy your dining experience, everyone! During the pandemic, and the closures, many restaurants set up outside dining, basically building another version of indoors outdoors. It was very expensive to do and the results were sometimes ridiculous. But the saving grace here is that the city didn’t charge the restaurants for the extra space, given the emergency. That didn’t last long. Now the city is going shop to shop and assessing fees on outdoor dining areas. These can be $50,000 to $100,000 — even more than it cost to put them up. This is happening at a time when many of these establishments are barely surviving. Their customer base has collapsed, labor is expensive, and food and drink are ever more difficult to come by. The whole place has a feel of demoralization. Many people who refuse the vaccination and refuse the fakes just sit at home and order food in. They cannot go to movies, shows, bars, or restaurants. Yes, there are plenty of speakeasies, but they take enormous risks. Nothing seems quite real." Here: https://brownstone.org/articles/what-happened-to-liberty-and-justice-for-all/3 points

I'm not much of a talker. Am I reading this right? This is basically another thing against those that don't trust vaccines against this virus. Here they're supposedly already talking about what they'll do with us. We're probably more careful than those got a shot and think they're immune and non-contagious. THIS! I try to distract myself from reality, but escapism doesn't physically get you to a better place.2 points

I also don't have the correct words ... just wouldn't it be a nice world with more love. I try hard to find a reason to get out of bed each day and sometimes that only reason is spite. I'm sorry to hear you guys are struggling right now ... we are in troubled times to say the very least. Will it get better, I just don't know even what "better" would be at this point we've gone so far down the toilet. I will say this is NOT the country my grandfather and dearly departed father explained I was to expect as 50 is not too far away for me.2 points

Whatever the latency, it sure beats swapping to the HDD. Don't bother too much with it. How many RAM slots does the XP system have? If it's just 2, you will get only 3GB total (1x 1GB + 1x 2GB). Anyways, just move the 2GB stick to the XP laptop and start testing. P.S. i found a site saying that the laptop supports 2GB RAM max, but it may have been that 2GB sticks were not available at the time of writing. Try it anyways, worst case it just won't boot.2 points

There may be a bit of a language barrier here. I don't think NHTPG was asking about changing user agents randomly; but rather, has anyone tried specific user agents with the specific Web site (nitter.net AIUI) you're having problems with? Some Web sites require very particular user agents; perhaps nitter.net is one. If it is, then a random user agent would just ensure that it usually won't work!1 point

You can mix RAM modules. You can have a ddr2 400mhz CL6 with ddr2 333mhz CL5 module. Your system will always run at the highest speed that it's compatible with both DIMMs so you are free to do whatever you want with the RAM modules. But be aware, the i945PM might need a bios update to accept the full 4GB of RAM1 point

Man cannot remake himself without suffering, for he is both the marble and the sculptor. Don't lose the energy to endure, that is when they win. Sure, this will be a very weird holiday to far too many, but we can only get through this together. There is no other; sorry. We can not all agree, but we CAN agree to disagree. People used to have this ability when I was young but I see only madness now and it hurts ... hurts a lot. So much pain, some at my own hands I've caused - I fully admit that. Hard circumstances of life are (could be) indispensable to bringing out the best in humanity. Try, hard as it be sometimes, to be well and grasp on to whatever (even little) joys you can find this week.1 point

There was a reason I had mentioned the kernel extension projects. The group working on OneCore API has had success getting the XP family of OSes to run DirectX 10 games. There's a few other screenshots like that on their site. I would have given OneCore API a spin already, but before I do that I plan on backing up my system just in case. And to be clear, I don't doubt that getting Cyberpunk to run on XP would be a tall order. It's not very high on my list of priorities, but hey; apparently CDPR provided some assistance to Windows 7 users wanting to run the game, even though 7 doesn't have DX12 support. It would be an interesting challenge to see if some combination of these tricks could pull it off.1 point

I have no words ! But it was quite expectable, really . It all began a long time ago , when France started to let them in . Then numerous bombings "happened" , then thousands of churches "went on fire by themselves" , like Notre-Dame de Paris . And now it will have an African galleries or smth like that . Is that true ??? Geeez ! We still have an alien police force , but I don't think it will help much since the direction is almost the same here. Things aren't good here too , my friend just closed his shop . I lost my job because they hired an immigrant from Eastern Europe , who agreed to work for much less. But I beleive we are still somewhat holding on only because of our Royal Family . I don't think all of that you see in your country would've happened if France still had their Royal Family present. Vive la France !1 point

Because they are INFILTRATED by reds, commies. Hmmm.... It depends on what you want to talk about...if those who govern us - it's BAD. Like in the USA or elsewhere, they are all the same. The worst thing is that I have lost confidence (which was not at the high level already...) in the freedom of elections. So I don't believe in government, in elections (at all levels in general..), very sad. I wasn't like that some years ago ..decades. So I lock myself in this private freedom that I have, not dealing with the big politics, but in the personal affairs, family... Very bad in France, latest example: they would like to take down the beautiful statue of Saint Michael! O tempora, o mores!.. 16/12/2021 Statue Saint Michel : The city of Les Sables d'Olonne will not let it happen ! pic.twitter.com/wR4pScCZqV - Yannick MOREAU ن (@YannickMOREAU) December 16, 2021 Will Saint Michel and his dragon be brought down by the Libres Penseurs de Vendée? Seized by this association of defenders of secularism, the administrative court of Nantes ordered, Thursday, the city of Les Sables d'Olonne, to remove, within six months, the statue of the archangel of the municipal public domain. But "the City will not let it happen !", proclaims the mayor (DVD) Yannick Moreau, who "in the name of common sense", has decided to appeal the judgment. This statue of Saint Michael that the militants of the Federation of the Free Thought no longer want to see is located, since 2018, on the square of the church Saint-Michel ... place Saint-Michel, two steps from the auditorium Saint-Michel, in the heart of the district Saint-Michel. "The few people who frequent the parish, it may seem normal to them. But the others? asks Jean Regourd, president of the Libres Penseurs de Vendée. They say to themselves: 'Why would I pass a saint when I go out of my house? This judgment confirms that we must respect the convictions of all citizens, not satisfy a few." [...] Le Figaro 23/11/2021 A secular association denounced "a religious emblem in the public space." The public rapporteur recommends the removal of the statue Saint-Michel, installed since 2018 in front of the church Saint-Michel, in Sables-d'Olonne (Vendée). It has been enthroned in front of the church of Saint-Michel for three years and its inauguration on October 6, 2018 by the former mayor of Sables, Didier Gallot. But perhaps not for much longer. The statue of the archangel Saint-Michel, slaying the dragon, seems promised to an imminent unbolting. "Oulala! A statue of Saint-Michel in front of a Saint-Michel church! The city of Sables-d'Olonne will not be intimidated by useless trials #cancelculture." The tone is set. Response in a month The jurisdiction had been seized by the federation of the Libre pensée de Vendée which sees, in this bronze of nearly two meters, a "religious emblem on the public space. "The place of this statue is on the Place Saint-Michel in front of the auditorium and the church of the same name," said the mayor. The judges will render their decision in one month. www.ouest-france.fr Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version): https://www.deepl.com/translator ...from here: https://www.fdesouche.com/2021/12/16/aux-sables-dolonne-la-statue-de-saint-michel-pourrait-etre-bientot-deboulonnee/ ...and another little read here: Les Sables d'Olonne. Demonstration this Saturday to defend the statue of the Archangel Saint-Michel 17/12/2021 Condemned by the administrative court of Nantes to unbolt within six months the statue of the Archangel Saint-Michel installed on the square of the same name in front of the church Saint-Michel since 2018, following a procedure of the Libre Pensée, the city of Les Sables d'Olonne has appealed and asks for a reprieve for the statue, "in the name of common sense". A demonstration will take place this Saturday to defend the implantation of the statue. "The city will not let itself be done!" Upset, the mayor Yannick Moreau explains to the local press "the place of the statue of the archangel St. Michael is on the square St. Michael, in front of the church of St. Michael. The city will not let itself be done!" and adds "the courts of our country have however something else to do than to investigate the abusive demands of radical secularists accomplices of the cancel culture who seek to debunk one by one the thousand-year-old cultural attachments which have forged our collective identity". The court found that the statue, located before 2012 in the courtyard of the former school Saint-Michel, since destroyed, has no place in public space: "the statue, once unveiled by the mayor, himself a former paratrooper, was blessed by a priest, this blessing confirming its attachment to the Christian iconography. The city considers that it is a "work of art anchored in the local heritage and the memory of the former students of the Saint-Michel school". On the other hand, when a Catholic procession is attacked "in the name of Allah" and the faithful are called "kouffars" and their throats are threatened to be slit, the secularists of the Libre Pensée are struck by a sudden loss of voice. To protest against the decision of the administrative court, the association "Touche pas à ma statue" calls for a rally on Saturday, December 18 at 3 pm. @Humming Owl Oh dammit i forgot about the old "master_preferences" file name. Now it works. But no luck with the --profile-directory command. "%ProgramFiles%\Chrome\360chrome.exe" --profile-directory="%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\360 Chrome" EDIT 1: Okay this command below works, but the "master_preferences" file is being ignored. "%ProgramFiles%\Chrome\360chrome.exe" --profile-directory="%UserName%" EDIT 2: I now found a shortcut command that fixed all those problems. Agreed! I actually thought MAT was on the right track on this one and disagreed with Roytam's file names of palemoon and basilisk right in the file name (still disagree, to be honest, but no skin off my back). UNTIL we saw what happened with the "raccoon-branded" Mypal. MAT lost all accountability from that point forward in my eyes. BINGO!1 point
-
Yes, of course, but technically, doesn't everything fall under the "etc." category? I'm joking, of course; but seriously, I don't think @roytam1 intended that as a criticism of your post. Rather, I think he just thought those MCP actions deserved particular criticism. Section 12 of the DMCA is bad law that invites abuse; nevertheless, filing DMCA claims against forks of open-source software is one of the most blatant abuses of the DMCA I've seen. MCP may have a defensible claim of trademark infringement against Male Poon, but AIUI the DMCA covers copyright, not trademark, infringement. (That said, IANAL and may be completely wrong.) And AFAICS @feodor2 followed all of MCP's trademark rules with his MyPal browser, and still got taken down, which IMO reveals the "branding" issue that MAT often raised against Roytam to be a red herring. I agree. (Neither do Mozilla or Google owe XP anything, for that matter.) But I think what should be objected to is MCP's quite open hostility toward those who distribute forks of their browsers that do run on Windows XP and Vista. Mozilla and Google don't care; why should MCP? MCP should just do their own thing. If others want to fork their software, well, that's the price of forking Mozilla's software in the first place! But they're so egotistical that they consider a fork with any alteration, no matter how minor, to be an implicit criticism of their decisions. MAT never liked Roytam's forks, but he really started blowing his stack when Roytam decided to revert MCP's decision to remove WebExtension add-on support from Serpent. "What? How dare you do something differently than I? Don't you realize I am perfect?"1 point

From what is written here, the "initial_preferences" file is used on Chromium 91 and up, use the "master_preferences" name instead to see if it works. The Chinese may have removed the portion of the code that was in charge of that, so if it doesn't work you can create a preferences file by launching the browser and looking into the "User Data > Default" directory, modify and copy that file for other users of the browser (use it as the "initial_preferences" file). The normal Google Chrome has an installer that can install the browser for every Windows account (I assume that also means a Chrome profile per account as well), in the case of this browser you can try this suggestion: 1) Create a folder in the "C:\" path and name it with whatever name you want (the browser files will be in there so name it "Browser", "360EE", etc). The folder will be accessible through all accounts in your Windows installation (at least for my XP installation it works like that). 2) Extract the contents of the browser compressed file inside that specific folder. 3) Create a shortcut of the "360chrome.exe" in your desktop (or any other location). 4) Right-click the shortcut, go to "Properties" and at the final of the "Target" option place something like this (with a space at the beginning) --> " --profile-directory="<something>"" Replace the <something> tag by a specific name you want to differentiate from each user. 5) Run the browser through the modified shortcut. 6) Repeat 3), 4) and 5) for all the users you want to add the browser. If everything goes well (and if you are using 360EE) you can go to the "User Data" folder of the browser (located at the folder you created on "C:\"), and check if the names you wrote on every shortcut are present as the names of folders. The result will be that every shortcut on every Windows account will tell the browser to load a different user data folder, being the same as a Chrome user profile per Windows account. Tell me if it works. Cheers.1 point

As an MSFN member throughout this entire "mess", I never felt that MSFN was targeted specifically by Moonchild, only by Tobin. I didn't really follow it that closely (Mozilla-based lost to Chromium-based long before the "mess" arrived). As an XP user, I feel that official Pale Moon owes XP nothing. I really strongly believe that. If official Pale Moon is looking toward the future, then XP-compatibility is "backward-looking" and not "forward-looking". I can't help but feel that EVERYBODY in the UNIVERSE that is still using XP and needs a browser to also run on XP, those people are already HERE at MSFN. And we can count them on two hands! Add one foot if we need some toes to count the Vista folks. Official Pale Moon's future isn't XP and Vista. I know that "goes against the grain" of MSFN collective-opinion, but I really don't think that official Pale Moon's "future" is XP and Vista. There isn't that big of a "market share" for that audience. And we are all already members here at MSFN.1 point

The amount of memory your GPU has, I think, doesn't impact how much ram XP32 sees. The GPU's RAM is only used by the GPU. My XP32 laptop, Etesia, always reported around 3.5 GB of available RAM regardless of whether she had 4 GB or 8 GB, at least until I installed the PAE patch. Nowadays she reports 7.57 GB of RAM. I'm not sure but I think that's because XP doesn't count whatever memory is necessary for the system to run. Glancing through the CPU-Z report it appears that the RAM modules for both your XP and 7 laptops are both DDR2 and have the same clock rate despite the different sizes involved. I've often heard that it's not a good idea to mix and match memory modules of different sizes or manufacturers, however. Looking around online, it seems like this advice is only really applicable to older systems. Crucial's own website says: "Theoretically, if the other traits (generation, speed, latency, voltage) are the same, there should be no issue using DRAM from two different brands. Though some older DDR3 systems require matched sets of memory." The modules you have do appear to be of the same generation, speed, latency, and voltage. And it looks like your laptops already use a mix of modules from varying manufacturers, which suggests to me that you stand good odds of the 2GB RAM stick working in your XP laptop. I'd give it a shot; if you run into BSoDs where you had no such problem before, then it's likely the RAM doesn't agree with your system somehow.1 point

Didn't see this posted anywhere but a story from ghacks claims there are planned changes next year to Pale Moon. Looks like they're going back to allowing firefox addons, that's the good move. The bad news is it could be the end of basilisk. Guess it hasn't been decided yet: https://www.ghacks.net/2021/12/17/pale-moon-project-announces-change-of-direction/ One feature with Pale Moon is the home page lacks the drop down search engines. I'd miss that since I use it constantly in the newer and older firefox versions. Maybe there's an addon that could substitute for it. Also, it doesn't appear that Classic Theme Restorer works in Pale Moon versions, even when using JustOff's tester-tool.1 point

... so last few hours I rushed compiling for a bug that causing inaccessible to msdn.microsoft.com (due to switching to SHA-2 OCSP cert of microsoft) and finally all my actively maintained browsers/suite/mail clients (excluding AF (which won't release regularly and aim to keep minimal changes between my branch and upstream), and NM26/RZ(which has old NSS that it knows nothing about SHA-2)) are freshly compiled for tomorrow's release. security patches for FX45/BK55 may be available later (i.e. not in tomorrow's release).1 point
