I got similar issues in KM forum and that it always traced into same rev range: http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,145699,154398#msg-154398 I'm surprised that why the problem floating on water right now but not in Nov. EDIT: after some debug, guilty commit is found and workaround is committed, it should be fixed in next build.6 points

UXP core is 29-ish (without using NSS SQLite (i.e. keeping NSS using DBM for better over-network-drive performance), preserving marquee, keeping old user agent override key name, etc.) PM front-end is kind-of 29-ish, but due to above changes, it is more 28-alike. (like keeping old omni.ja format)2 points

What he heck does that first line mean? I simply asked a question. I don't have time to go through pages of a thread, just to ask a simple question, so sorry about being "superficial". My lord! EDIT: (and yes I saw the smilies, but I abhore the tone of your comment. I don't need to concern myself with differences between source code and "versions". Pale Moon v29 was apparently a milestone release, and I checked the last builds that Roytam1 submitted. I never saw any 29x issues, so I asked. That's NOT spreading misinformation, and I look upon any inference in the slightest to that with major disdain.2 points

FWIW, the introduction of v29.0+ in official Pale Moon has already caused the malfunctioning of several forks of popular Firefox-exclusive legacy (XUL) extensions, when installed in PM; those extensions have internal code routines that check for appVersion >= 29 and then apply, accordingly, Australis-specific code/features that, of course, are not supported by non-Australis PM29 and, thus, result in a broken extension (partly or completely) ... I won't expect New Moon 28 to forever stay at a 28.x.x version number ( @roytam1 hasn't yet indicated publicly his intentions on this), but, at the moment, staying there avoids nasty surprises from legacy Fx extensions - but may introduce issues with proper PM extensions that demand a minversion of 29.* ...2 points

Latest UXP forks by @roytam1 are already being built (as has ALWAYS been the case) on code cherry-picked from the master branch of the official UXP repo, as well as the master branches of official Pale Moon (for NM28) and Basilisk (for St52), so 98% of latest PM 29.0.1/29.1.0a1 and Basilisk 52.9.2021.02.06 is ALREADY there in latest NM28+St52! @Jody Thornton , with respect , you're just being superficial and looking only at version numbers, not actual source code; so get yourself informed (and refrain from possibly spreading misinformation...) . ... And it has been explained numerous times here that @feodor2 's project (Mypal) forks/follows more closely the RELEASE branch of official PM, so nothing new/surprising there...2 points

The DLL is signed only as SHA-2, but I don't believe that is the reason as Vista doesn't normally block execution of user-mode code with "invalid" signatures, and the other runtime DLLs packaged with PM are cut from the same cloth and work normally.2 points

@Tripredacus: Actually that's not the case. I'm getting the same message, no matter what I try to attach, and my quota is indefinite, as you know. However, I've already asked xper to give it a look.2 points

Delete api-ms-win-core-memory-l1-1-0.dll from the Pale Moon folder and then it will run, falling back to Vista-compatible binaries in system32 installed by the VC++ 2015-19 runtime. This is the second program broken by Windows 10-derived runtime libraries (Code::Blocks was the first). Though in this case, there are no missing functions, but apparently that DLL delay-loads some functions that are certainly valid, but have ".dll" attached to them, making them invalid.2 points

I apologise If I sounded harsh/hostile in my reply to you - no disrespect was implied/meant... "Your" time is as precious as anyone else's in these forums, so I won't accept that as an argument (but this is just me) ... Yes, these "Roytam1" threads go big pretty quickly, but that is why Forum (Google, etc.) search exists... I'm not even able myself to easily locate my own posts from 2-3 years ago! You have been a previous user of New Moon in your "Vista" era, so, in my book, I thought it a given you already knew how NM is being built off of official PM: (I realise now I was wrong ) - and direct links to Roytam1's GitHub repos are always given with every weekly release cycle announcement here, so one has to only go back (in this thread) a few pages at best to read the latest release notes - or bookmark the permanent link to Roy's blog ... As for calling you "superficial", sorry, I was just being carried away by the manner the majority of software users think that version N is way better than version (N-1); it's one of the reasons Mozilla moved on to a rapid - monthly - release cycle in their chase after Google Chrome... So, I just interpreted your question as "look, PM 29 has been out, are you able to match it?" ... Regards1 point

Finally, That's GOOD NEWS!! @VistaLover Thanx a bunch for your great support & assistance in that matter!! BTW, there's another issue that caught my eye: On discogs.com I cannot use the combo box field. E.g. here I cannot operate/select the track combo at the bottom of the track list or hit the "Next" button to show up a complete list. Scripts are all allowed. Any suggestions??1 point

Just curious. Are you guys moving at to any of the new 29x releases? Can this be recompiled for XP/Vista compatibility?1 point

Oh, didn't realize I was hitting a limit on attachments. Would it be possible to make the forum display a message other than Error Code -200 when that happens?1 point

I don't think it's just that moved posts can't be edited. Some of the uneditable posts haven't actually been moved, and I've moved quite a few posts recently and have subsequently edited them with no problem.1 point

Is "upstream" supposed to be https://github.com/rmottola/Arctic-Fox ? I briefly browsed their issue tracker, https://github.com/rmottola/Arctic-Fox/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+sort%3Aupdated-desc but no sign of a mediathekviewweb.de related open issue... Just to be clear, I'm not doubting you in the slightest, I was simply curious to read what they had to say on this... The site itself complains about an "unsupported browser or disabled Javascript", and the Web Console reports "TypeError: n.reconnection is not a function" in https://mediathekviewweb.de/static/socket.io.min.js Incidentally, package palemoon-27.9.7.win32-git-20201121-fa350a3b2-xpmod.7z (buildID=20201120050330) is the last one on which a very useful/favourite GreaseMonkey script works, on later NM27 versions it simply refuses to work at all... The userscript is SaveFromNet: https://en.savefrom.net/user.php?helper=userjs Direct link: https://download.sf-helper.com/chrome/helper.user.js Last good NM27: First bad: Browser Console error on the latter: Regression window: https://github.com/roytam1/palemoon27/compare/fa350a3...b383d6b [Showing 373 changed files with 11,858 additions and 5,748 deletions.] It's hard to pinpoint the culprit commit no doubt, but I and @bernd have great faith in you... FWIW, the same userscript works fine in UXP forks and Vista-usable Chromium forks!1 point

Roy, all your subsequent releases after version: 27.9.7 (32-bit) (2020-11-20) fail to display this very web page. So I'm forced to stick with the old one and thus cannot benefit from your future releases. Could anyone reproduce and approve that, please?? Have you verified in https://msfn.org/board/attachments/ that you still have eligible attachments space? The cumulative size of your MSFN file attachments must not exceed 1.95MB... I use imgur myself: https://imgur.com/upload NB: if you prefer the older GUI, much lenient on older hardware, create the following two cookie files { "domain": ".imgur.com", "expirationDate": 3808238400.6028, "hostOnly": false, "httpOnly": false, "name": "frontpagebetav2", "path": "/", "sameSite": "unspecified", "secure": false, "session": false, "storeId": "0", "value": "0" } { "domain": ".imgur.com", "expirationDate": 3808238400.6028, "hostOnly": false, "httpOnly": false, "name": "postpagebeta", "path": "/", "sameSite": "unspecified", "secure": false, "session": false, "storeId": "0", "value": "0" } then import and protect them via a cookie extension (several exist); once the photo upload succeeds, from the opened page choose Copy -> Get Share links -> BBCode (Forums) -> Copy : [img=https://i.imgur.com/uosmAtz.jpg] However, I suspect many of your issues are caused by your use of NM27, which isn't fully compatible with MSFN 2021...1 point

A thing that could be done if you need to use Windows 10 is install Windows 10 LTSB/LTSC. It's lighter than the normal Windows 10, but as I discovered, it has a problem. If you suddenly shutdown the system, you break it accidentally and you try to repair it with the disk, the reparation options don't work, and you can't upgrade it. So in that case you need to do a clean installation. So create an image of your System. That happened once with my Windows 10 installation.1 point

*chuckles* uh, around 428 tabs on my Lenovo Thinkcentre. BUT they just accumulated over time with me keeping everything open (most just unloaded) so that I can go back to everything easily, and setting up firefox to restore previous session every time i open it. Anyways, that's totally on me, and I think that usually just uses around 3GB upon first run of firefox, until I start opening more tabs like youtube and such. Right now I'm using a Dell Optiplex with 12GB RAM with 10 tabs open (3 are just google) in Firefox and I'm seeing approximately, well, at the moment, exactly 3GB used by the entire system. Only Firefox is running. My session manager and tab unloader extensions come in handy sometimes.1 point

Hello all , does anyone have a good working guide on on how to get rid of SSDP traffic in Windows Vista ? I have an old programme (a video player with mdns casting "feature" which I don't use/need). I've blocked it with windows firewall and tried to block it with several third party firewalls too , yet I still see lots of ssdp traffic coming from this programme (both ways). I have blocked all inbound traffic too , of course. I have these services disabled , yet it doesn't help to stop ssdp. Computer Browser SSDP Discovery UPnP Device Host Function Discovery Resource Publication Function Discovery Provider host These artices that came up first in the search are useless too. https://its.uiowa.edu/support/article/3576 https://tweaks.com/windows/37087/completely-disable-universal-plug-and-play-upnp/ https://alferkwok.wordpress.com/2011/07/20/disable-network-discovery-by-gpo-windows-vista-or-later/ Thanks in advance.1 point

This is one of the worst threads I could think of to have pinned. Pinned threads are reserved for important information that generally affects everyone using the OS. If there was a crucial fix that applied to everyone or just about everyone, then it warrants a pin. But pinning a thread will not give it more attention. I don't even know what the original post said but even then, this is more of a per user basis issue and not a widespread problem. I mean, you don't even have much explanation about what's so slow about it or when it occurs so how does that help anyone?1 point

Yes , it sure does . And what about the adblocker ? I assume you have it installed. Does it work for you ? Actually blocking ads , not just writing that they are blocked.1 point

Windows 10 is not full UEFI, neither was Windows 8. Windows only has an EFI bootloader using the same basic methods as Vista and Windows 7. The OS itself is still "legacy" (hence why it still has stuff from XP in it) and only has the ability to hook into UEFI features. To put it this way, if Windows 10 was actually an EFI application, it would be impossible to image/convert a Windows partition between EFI/GPT and BIOS/MBR disks and be able to get it to boot. You can do that now because when you do this type of conversion, you only need to change the bootloader to get the OS to boot.1 point

On the subject of cipher suites used by 360EE, v12 & v13 (but NOT v11) are built with support for the Chinese-exclusive cipher suite 0xe013; yes, the Chinese are developing independently their own cipher suites for use inside their own Cyberspace ( ) - the one sanctioned by the GFW, of course! These Chinese-only suites are not (yet?) endorsed by the rest of the world, IOW they are not properly indexed/standardised... Of the three testing sites I use, https://clienttest.ssllabs.com:8443/ssltest/viewMyClient.html never identifies 0xe013, but https://browserleaks.com/ssl and https://www.howsmyssl.com/a/check occasionally/randomly do: When that "unknown" suite is detected, then the client always gets a bad rating... I haven't found conclusive info on that Chinese cipher suite, mere mentions of it on GitHub: https://github.com/guanzhi/GmSSL/blob/master/ssl/t1_trce.c More about GmSSL and the GM/T standards can be found on: https://github.com/guanzhi/GmSSL#about-gmssl http://gmssl.org/english.html In any case, I've taken up the advice of @Sampei.Nihira and disabled it in my 12+13 versions, via: --cipher-suite-blacklist=0xe013 FTR, that suite was first introduced in 360EEv12 build 1150 (12.0.1150.0) ...1 point

I'm not sure how GTX750ti is relevant to this discussion , being lower end and from another series. Yeah , I know it's the first gen. of Maxwell , but still another series . Btw, artifacts in Unique Heaven oftenly tell that somethig's wrong with the videocard itself . No such issue for me with high end 900 series and 344 drivers. What about the other issue with displays ? Besides , what version of XP you were using ? 32 or 64 bit ?1 point
-
Well , that's at least 3 by you and a couple by me . I can confirm all mentioned by you and add these to the list. 1 - Significantly decreased performance starting with 35.x 2 - Problems with idle modes on GTX980/970 , GTX780 (new revision, reissue with another chip) , Titan Black. Though, the first GTX 780 (from May 2013) and the original Titan did not behave oddly during idle. Mind you , this happened on both , Vista and XP , so XP has nothing to do with it , it's the drivers themselves. My opinion : 344 series are the best for XP. If someone wants newer , 364 drivers seem to be OK , but not as fast 344.11 and they need to be modded to work with 9xx series. For some raging publishers : I didn't test with Titan X , so no comment. EDIT : I did not test with lower end cards .1 point

I'm not even sure what you were trying to say . I do not know what to answer, since the choice is obviously his (free or not). I was going to ignore , but suddenly I felt like that KGB programme doesn't raise any flags to you too. Excuse me if I'm wrong, in advance . I mean KGB programmes shouldn't be used at all , even if there are no other alternatives, period. Except for the KGB officers themselves (I guess) , but something tells me even they do not use goods/stuff manufactured in Russia. As for my advice , I already gave it elsewhere (where it was appropriate) . Other (non-KGB) programmes work absolutely fine with this kernel, so not disturbing win32 would be a brilliant idea. And I won't go off-topic because I respect win32 and his marvellous work. https://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2012/07/23/kaspersky-lab-has-kgb-ties https://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/kaspersky-controversy-us-intelligence-heads-warn-not-trust-russian-security-company-kgb-trained https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yevgeny_Kaspersky https://thenewamerican.com/trump-boots-putin-s-kgb-tech-guru-kaspersky-out-of-fedgov-computers/1 point

A couple things to note here. 1. Why do you need iTunes? Make your music library local if you haven't already and ditch it. 2. 7 is definitely on its way out, but 8 is still kind of a special case since it will be receiving official security updates for a couple more years still. The real breaking point will be drivers, but if people can still find a way to make Windows XP work in this day and age, I don't think that will be too much of a problem. As to Discord, I use that in a browser and on my phone anyway, so no big loss there at all. NVidia/AMD would be a big factor, yes, but the 30 series of current NVidia cards all support 8.1 and even 7, and I know at least with NVidia, they don't start dropping OS support until at least a new line is launched. They could have ditched 8.1 for this 30 series, but they did not, so that also gives 8.1 a few more years of life behind it. 3. DirectX12 has been a bit of a thorn in the side of legacy Windows users, but Vulkan is starting to catch up fast, and Vulkan is OS independent. Perhaps the biggest standards that 8.1 is really missing is support for the latest Bluetooth standard of 5.2 (meh) and Wifi 6, or 802.11ax (more of a problem, but also not a big deal). 4. Finally, even if all this didn't apply, it's still not all doom and gloom. Quite the opposite. There's a reason that Valve has been on a rampage with providing Linux support. They got mad at Microsoft a long time ago and didn't like being beholden to them (think it started with the bul***** UWX), so they're now funneling their money and efforts into Linux to give it a massive boost in compatibility. And it's helping. A lot. This is also probably why Valve dropped Steam support for Windows Vista and below. They believe in and want those people on Linux instead. Back in the day, Linux used to be frustrating to use, and compatibility equally so, but those days are long gone, and in some instances, Linux actually works BETTER than Windows. And even further, it's only going to improve. The kernel has shown itself time and time again to be absolutely amazing for old hardware while still retaining full support for the latest hardware and drivers, now easily auto-detecting what needs to be used and doesn't and seamlessly applies the correct drivers without any input needed. At the very end of the day, even if Windows 10 didn't suck, we all knew this was gonna happen sometime. OSes get old. New standards are developed. That's just what happens. But just because 8.1 will reach end-of-life sometime is not the end of the world since Linux is now the looming behemoth over Microsoft's OS division, and if Microsoft doesn't shape its a** up, that penguin is gonna start stealing a lot of f****** market share.1 point

Personally, I'm part of the "hate Win10" group and would recommend against it at all costs. Windows 7 is very much a more stable and superior OS. Plus, it's still technically supported through 2024... didn't hear that from me, though... Much of the customization and flexibility of Windows was removed following Windows 7. I myself use probably 5 dozen group policy and registry tweaks just to try to make the OS more sane to use, and it still sucks. Trust me, updates and privacy are just the tip of the iceberg. The OS itself is complete junk IMNSHO. This is a great overview online of just why Windows 10 is a POS (and I don't mean point of sale)... https://blog.interlinked.us/44/an-open-letter-to-microsoft-why-windows-10-sucks Of course, YMMV. If you don't mind Windows 10, technically, it's "more secure" according to Microsoft, and if it doesn't bother you, more power to you. I can't stand it, and I hate it, even though I use it. The more time I spend using Windows 7, the saner I stay.1 point

No chances. Crimson and later drivers has too many functions calls that not supported by Vista. Only Catalyst (up to 15.11.1) may have working on Vista, but this one supported AMD r300 series and older.1 point
