Thank you, although it did take a while… Better late than never, I guess . I suddenly got an e-mail notification for one of my threads, and then tried to log-in, which worked (without using Tor Browser, that is).2 points

Hey, I was just wondering, I know there's a list for Windows 98SE, but I dunno if there's one for Windows 2000... Anyway, here's my list so far... Logging in Tiny Personal Firewall v2.0.14 was figured out, the issue was briefly mentioned here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/177106-running-vanilla-windows-98-in-2020-and-beyond/page/36/?tab=comments#comment-1192449 The firewall notifies about all incoming and outgoing connections without rules via popup. Once the user defines a rule (deny or permit) by default the firewall does it's job in the background and no longer notifies. If the user wants ongoing feedback for connection attempts select either 'log when this rule match' or 'display alert box when this rule match'. To set up logging, double-click the firewall icon in the system tray -> select Firewall tab -> Advanced -> filter rules tab. My current setup has 24 incoming and outgoing rules defined (9 deny, 15 permit). Select a filter rule -> Edit -> check 'log when this rule match' -> OK -> Apply. This must be done individually for every filter rule you want logged. Then in the Advanced -> Miscellaneous tab ensure 'log into file (filter.log)' is checked. When a filter rule gets triggered by network activity it then gets logged to file. On a default install this is C:\Program Files\Tiny Personal Firewall\filter.log. If a log file is not desired but you still want notifications, then instead of selecting 'log when this rule match' for a desired filter rule, select 'display alert box when this rule match'. This will provide a message popup with a connection attempt. As logging causes increased disk activity and popup alerts get tiring, i will likely just log connection attempts at random intervals or only for connections set to 'deny'. Logging can help determine how frequently a connection gets triggered or whether specific software may be 'calling home'. This firewall also has an MD5 feature that allows checking the path and MD5sum for each defined application executable. A little bonus protection against undesired intrusion. Of course if someone has physical access to your machine then none of this matters. On these old systems it is easy to reset the BIOS or BIOS password, bypass a Windows 98 login or read/write FAT partitions with a liveCD. Probably overkill for internet facing systems used for hobby purposes, nonetheless better safe than sorry. As mentioned previously some system components and software applications that attempted network connections were surprising.1 point

Well, and this is indeed a surprise to me , the redirection I posted about no longer takes place now, the Flash "version check" webpage loads normally: https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/about/ Thank you @Ben Markson for your kind assistance , but tried as I might I couldn't get your method to work in my Vista SP2 32-bit laptop, neither for "portable" Flash DLLs nor properly installed ones in "%windir%\system32\macromed\flash" This is how above directory looks like after installing latest Flash NPAPI: File mms.cfg reads: SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0 AutoUpdateDisable=0 EOLUninstallDisable=1 EnableAllowList=1 AllowListUrlPattern=file:* AllowListUrlPattern=https://get.adobe.com/* about:plugins in latest Serpent v52.9.0 (2021-01-08) (32-bit) shows: ... but when I visit https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/about/ I get: I'm out of things to try, since you specifically said: (and the kongregate test flash game doesn't work either, after adding AllowListUrlPattern=https://chat.kongregate.com/ inside mms.cfg ) Any additional insight on this, from anyone, would be welcome... The active_x version for Vista's IE9 proved a bit more tricky... The file to patch is Flash32_32_0_0_465.ocx ; but Adobe's installer has set that file to be READ only, so I wasn't able to patch it in situ (and any of my attempts to remove the READ-only attribute were met with failure, despite me being an admin...) There probably exist more elegant ways to tackle this, but I 1. Copied the file elsewhere, where I had FULL modify permissions. 2. After removing the READ-only attribute, I successfully hex-patched the file. 3. The original .ocx file was renamed with the aid of Unlocker (). 4. A copy of the patched file was put in its place. Result: However, I have 0 intention of using IE9 for Flash content, the experiment was performed simply as a proof of concept... Flash_AX has been now fully removed from the system...1 point

Another four updates this month! KB4493181 (Office) KB4493186 (Excel) KB4493145 (Word) KB4493143 (Office) Not bad for something that was supposed to be out of support months ago!1 point

xper may have removed/disabled it for the time being since it is having issues. And with that, I'm locking this. Since it's a plugin issue and not something we can control, no amount of complaining will fix the problem. If something changes, we will announce it and if need be, can allow discussion to continue at that time. Until then... Topic LOCKED If there are other forum issues you are experiencing aside from this, please reply to the appropriate thread or create a new thread if a recent previous one doesn't exist.1 point

If this is a problem for you, you can add these domain names in the hosts file like this: 0.0.0.0 browser.360.cn 0.0.0.0 cloud.browser.360.cn 0.0.0.0 dd.browser.360.cn 0.0.0.0 qurl.f.360.cn 0.0.0.0 chrome.360.cn 0.0.0.0 ext.chrome.360.cn 0.0.0.0 u.qurl.f.360.cn 0.0.0.0 puv.tt.browser.360.cn 360 Chrome Brower 11 and 12 works like a charm.1 point

To each their own, but I disagree with your paradigm. NOTHING on my computer "auto-updates" - I hate software on my computer doing things on its own behind my back! But I also acknowledge that it's only the "Type A's" such as myself that will understand that hatred.1 point

Awesome! Works like a charm! Much appreciated! Seems the en-US isn't really required and CWS defaults to English for the .com domain so I opted for https://bit.ly/38xbzbe instead. Yeah, I guess I'll have to get into the habit of right-clicking for my local extensions (left-clicking is the habit because of an "Add-ons Button" extension to perform that task in Mypal / NM). edit: nah, on second thought I opted for left AND right click to BOTH just take me to 'chrome://myextensions'. I only ever use the CWS for setting up my initial profile and only use between 3 and 8 extensions depending on browser then never visit the CWS afterwards.1 point

I am still myself on the latest 360EEv12 version (12.0.1592.0), but I am certain the following would also apply to 360EEv13 builds... FWIW, in untouched official Chinese builds, the Extension Center tab icon will direct one to their proprietary (Chinese) 360EE Extension Center: https://ext.chrome.360.cn/webstore/ What the so called Russificators (more precisely, the Patch by El Sanchez) do is hardcode a redirection from https://ext.chrome.360.cn/webstore/ => https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=ru If you didn't know already, everything Google-related is sanctioned in mainland China, blocked by the GFW... El Sanchez's patch modifies the main program DLL, chrome.dll, but because there's not enough room (i.e. null characters, "00" in hexadecimal code) for the whole CWS-ru URI to fit in, they're using the now defunct "Google URL shortener" service to trim that URI down to a short number of characters: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=ru => https://goo.gl/j4MLV Sadly, I don't know off-hand what was/is the goo.gl shortURL equivalent for the en-US CWS, https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=en-US but you can still use an existing service (like bit.ly) to trim that down: => https://bit.ly/2WKImUI Then, with 360EE closed, you can use a HexEditor to change goo.gl/j4MLV => bit.ly/2WKImUI in chrome.dll (please back-up first, in case you mess up...) Unfortunately, I can't offer you a solution to your second, TBH niche , request... Have a Merry Christmas indeed! Addendum: Official chrome.dll Russified chrome.dll User customised chrome.dll1 point

Been monitoring this thread loosely and finally jumped in for a trial run. Been using the Russian Repack version 13.0.2182.0 for a couple of days and do have just one tweak I'd like to find a fix for. Depending on your skin, there is an "extension center" icon where if you left-click it opens the Russian Chrome Web Store (hl=ru). I have not found where to change this to hl=en -- is this possible ??? If you right-click it opens 'chrome://myextensions/' - I'd kinda prefer the right-click / left-click be REVERSED. Left-click open my extensions, right-click open Web Store -- is this possible ??? edit: ps - I've also found it much more to my liking to DELETE the 'newtab.zip' file in the Application directory then set the startup page to 'chrome://newtab'.1 point

... Well, fortunately things aren't yet as dire as you pictured them , all thanks to web.archive.org The URL https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html has been captured 187 times in total, the last time "valuable" content was still in was on July 18th 2020 (https://web.archive.org/web/20200718192527/*) The last version of Adobe Flash Player without the 2021 timebomb was/is 32.0.0.371; WAO have actually captured the following URI https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_32.0.0.371_archive.zip 5 times, last one was on June 30th, 2020 (https://web.archive.org/web/20200630185943/*) ; the zip archive itself is at 388 MiB, so it'll take a while to come down from WAO... It contains all possible flavours of installers/packages, no need to search further... Don't make that mistake again...1 point

These days I had to install Windows XP on my Intel Atom N270. A couple of years ago I was able to navigate with Windows 7 but now neither with 7 and 8.1 One hell, no browser had a decent performance. I am sailing with the SRWare Iron 49 (with updated certificates) and the performance is excellent. Use Mypal and it is wonderful what they have done, but it will take a little more polishing performance. Also try the 360 11xx and 12xx browsers. And I must say that version 12 on youtube has considerable lag. Of course, they use different versions of chrome, but the idea of using Windows XP is because our PC has limited resources. But anyway, maybe I will leave it as an alternative browser, as I said before it lacks spell checker and the language is annoying. I edit: After testing various 360 12xxx browser settings I discovered that adding it in the DEP exception increases performance considerably. Also disable all background apps, check certifacate and speed optimizations options. I clarify that I tried it on youtube, which seems to me to be the best performance test.1 point

I'm using that version with a few glitches I failed to mention before. Setup is a MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum board with 3200 AMD CPU. -The Writing on forums become illegible unless you refresh the page constantly otherwise you need to close and reopen to view the words again. -Some menu options not available on Internet Banking, whereas MyPal shows all options. -Couple of other niggles, will post if I remember. Its like version 11.0.2251 needs a patch or something. Probably needs a reinstall, but happy with Mypal for the moment.1 point

OK, thank you, I understand now. With each new release, chromium is more and more heavy and slow. On a barebone with an Intel Atom D525 from 2011, I use only the russian 360 Chrome Browser 11.0.2251. Releases 12.x impact too heavily the resources of this computer. I use the russian 360 Chrome Browser 12.0.1014 on a Zotac ID18 mini PC (celeron 1007U from 2013) and the result is good.1 point

After using the Russian 360 Chrome Explorer for a few months, it started feeling a bit long in the tooth, plus an odd blue screen under heavy usage and you can clearly see it needs to shake hands with .ru destinations. My PC is very low spec by today's standards, its a little over 15 years old and the last motherboard of the 3 I once had. Its about upgrade time. So I clicked on a browser I installed about 2 years ago called Mypal and found it to be less of a resource hog and more slick. Went to their webpage and noticed that someone was doing a lot of work keeping it updated. Perhaps some people are using Mypal already, maybe time for others who have not tried it to give it a look.1 point

Well I'm happy even as it is. Plus this also gives Vista users added hope (since they're in a similar situation). They'll likely be able to do the same with patches from the original Server 2008.1 point

And I guess you're covered till Jan 10, 2023 !!! Yes it's what it seems. Now I'll use this thread for month to month results, and see how it goes from there. Even the IE updates go through. And v10, also not as good as 11, still browses most sites (should I need to use it ever)1 point
