  2. @i430VX I updated my Roytam1 installer scripts to account for: 1) Hostname changes (breaking) 2) MailNews directory renaming (breaking) and a few more things. Now, everything works as expected again. I also found other issues with the script I hadn't found before since I don't use the other programs. Those are fixed now to the best of my knowledge. CHANGE LOG: Last updated 2020-10-24 with following patches: - Hostname changes and MailNews rename fix - MailNews directory renames to match repository - Borealis to bnavigator dir renames to match repo - Created Borealis directory creation script (previously missing) - Fixed inherited K-Meleon Goanna directory inconsistencies and script issues - Fixed inherited Firefox 45 SSE script issues Latest revised scripts can be downloaded at the top of the page here: https://w2k.phreaknet.org/

  5. I don't think THEY'll bat an eye. "Download more RAM"? What an immature response. So unless you want to build the entire browser from source yourself, roytam1's fork is probably going to be the most accessible option in the future. You also get some bells and whistles that the upstream dropped, like early WebExtension support. It might be a bit slower in places, at least theoretically, due to usage of critical sections instead of SRW locks. Maybe roytam1 could implement runtime check in the future, use SRW locks if available and critical sections otherwise. Some folks run Vista and they could benefit as well since Vista already supports SRW locks. When the time comes, I'll make a switch.

  6. yeah, i figured out major version and build number spoofing, but minor version spoofing seems to be harder. As I said before I will try to make an auxiliary function to indirectly feed it the minor version since directly feeding it fails.

  7. I am planning on adding whatever Windows 8/10 functions are necessary for those versions of the browsers to work, so it should happen.

  8. Unfortunately. I think that is true. I wonder about updates for Windows 8 Embedded?

  9. You shouldn't hold your breath on getting a direct reply. Roytam offers SEVENTEEN different browser builds if I counted correctly. You need to find one that "balances" most of your needs - you will NOT find one that meets "all" of your needs. It took TWO YEARS for an "about:permissions" bug to get 'partially' fixed in NM27. I personally hold the view that a "patch" applied INCORRECTLY actually INTRODUCES security vulnerabilities. That didn't stop people from using NM27 during those TWO YEARS. We do have a "large following" here that FALSELY thinks they are "secure" just because they update their browser 'weekly'. That is NOT meant as any disprespect, so to speak. We all have differing perspectives on "security" - 'to each their own' :)

  11. It's set to Metro skin, which might be the default setting to not look out place compared to the rest of the OS. Selecting Windows Aero on the Skin tab makes it more similar to Win7 menu.

  12. They're extracted to temporary directory behind the scenes. Other programs wouldn't be able to work with them otherwise.

  13. It would be very difficult to duplicate the work I did for the 2017-based files for those. But you may want to try local DLL redirection, where you add a key to the registry using one such file in the extended kernel folder, reboot, then copy the required files to each program's folder, then make a file in the program folder named xxxx.exe.local (where the program name is xxxx.exe). There are some limitations, but there should be a good chance of success for what you want to run. For future projects, I am considering ways to split off the extended functions into their own files so they don't disturb the original system files and are more resilient to updates. One-Core-API does something like adding the new functions forwarding to the new function file from the otherwise unchanged old system file, but that still means that updates will still replace the files, if not worse. The ideal solution would be to, for example, have kernel32 be nothing but forwards to two files: kernelol, which is the existing kernel32, and kernelex, which has the code for the new functions. Or even better, I could change the KnownDLLs entry for kernel32 to kernel33 (so hopefully, programs calling kernel32 will go to kernel33), and make the forwarder kernel33, the existing one kernel32 (so windows updates only update that file without any adverse effects), and kernelex.

  14. Is that 1909? EDIT: Wait, what? how do you have minimize and maximize buttons the same size as in windows 7? EDIT2: Is that a glossy effect on the taskbar? When I use Startisback, the default Windows 7 theme doesn't have that effect, it just has blur. EDIT3: Wait, you are on 2004? How the heck you have blur effect and windows 7 theme? Do you using Windows Blinds or what? Please answer

  15. Today, I learned something about those API Set DLLs (api-ms-win-core-*) while working on an auxiliary project (its contents will be eventually incorporated into this one). The legacy win32 subsystem DLLs like ole32/kernel32/user32 etc. started forwarding functions to the API Set DLLs in 7; this practice became more prevalent in 8 and 10. To the layman, it appears that these functions have been reduced to stubs, as they appear in the API Set DLLs. But many of the legacy DLLs are also being paired up with *base dlls (kernel32 = kernelbase, ole32 = combase, user32 = win32u(?). etc.). So I found that where an implementation does not exist in the legacy file, you must look in the corresponding base file. And that's where I found out that my implementations of VerLanguageInfoW and ResolveLocaleName were indeed useless stubs. Thus, a November update will be coming to fix those functions and possibly others affected by the same issue.

  16. Not "error" because Kstub823 is working correctly as designed and requesting guidance. Either of those definitions is very good. Well done! I'm working on the next version of KernelEx now. I'll use your definitions to add more stubs. Thank you!

  18. Welcome to MSFN, Tony! I wish it were under better circumstances, but we're glad to see you here. Thank you for the picture of your dad.. I know I probably speak for several others here as well when I say I wish I had known more about Rudy and been able to get to know him better personally. I exchanged many, many emails with him, and always enjoyed hearing about whatever he was experimenting with at the time. We once discussed meeting up if I were ever in New York, but unfortunately I never got the opportunity... One never knows the future, but if I had had any idea he would be gone so soon I would have MADE the opportunity. I haven't been able to work much lately on the page that I was making that is dedicated to Rudy's work, but I will add this picture to it, and I would be glad to add any other such things as might be interesting.. I thought about making a short biography type page, but it's hard to know where to begin, and it's depressing to realize just how few details you know about someone else's life and interests outside of whatever subjects you've discussed, even when you considered them a close friend...

  19. Thank you for the kind words about my father. Rudy has two sons. Jason loew is his blood son and we have the same mothers and I am Tony Sotomayor. Rudy was my step dad. I miss him so much. And Im glad to see how he impressed his fellow programmers on this thread and how much they respect his work. I knew as a child Rudy was very intelligent and a gifted programmer. If anyone would like to download a picture of Rudy when he was in his last year in College at University of Oklahoma 1970(Sooner 1970). I have a pic of him that was taken of him at the Engineers Club Engineers week party pic. Maybe someone can put it on this thread or something? He was young fresh leaving college and healthy. Picture is how I like to remember him. You can email me direct for that pic or anything else you want to know about my dad at jasongeo2@aol.com

  20. If using tools is an option too: am using this on 98, last freeware version: http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/mmedia/FastStoneCapture.html This can scroll long window contents to capture them fully, although slow and can have hickups. For Firefox there exist some addons which I envy greatly, since those allow to capture full-length pages instantly. But no clue how to get this runnin in K-Meleon, 99% sure just not possible :(
