Interesting - looks like saving videos from with savefrom.net site crashes Serpent 52.9 (latest: 24-02-23) right after clicking a prepared link of the video. xul.dll is mentioned... :-(

Can't reproduce, it's working completely fine here on latest Serpent 52.9.

Edit: I got it sorted and am up to version 2.5.207 from June 1, 2020. This is the last version with the traditional UI; version 2.6 has a "Photon-like" UI. 2.5 has a couple more buttons but it looks and acts pretty much the same.

There exists a project (now, seemingly, an "abandonware:( ), last updated in June 2020, which offers "pdf.js" in the form of a "legacy" XUL extension

https://github.com/IsaacSchemm/pdf.js-seamonkey/releases/tag/v2.3.235

The release notes of the last version state that it's based on pdf.js-v2.3.200, so you got further than them ; the provided XPI file comes with l10n support , which was the main reason I had tested it back then in my "dirty" St52 profile :P ; after some days of testing, I bumped on some incompatibilities (the details of which evade me now ), so I ended up uninstalling it and reverting to the St52-embedded (English-only) "native pdf.js viewer" ...

I'm up to version 2.14.305 as of now. (The Photon-like UI works fine but looks a little "alien" to my eyes. If you're using a Photon theme, though, it may look like it fits right in.) My guess is that 3.0 will be the first version that doesn't work - but they do have a "legacy" build of 3.0 that might. I'll keep you posted.

Localization "should" work - the updated pdf.js looks for its localization files in ./web/locale and should ignore the built-in en-US locale (which I didn't bother to delete). But I haven't tested it.

Of course this is all with Serpent, which now supports newer JS constructs than the last XP-compatible Seamonkey version did. The extension developer may have stopped at 2.3.200 because that's all his SeaMonkey version could handle - or it could be that he just got tired of the project; I don't know.

That said, an extension is much simpler and easier to install than replacing the version built into omni.ja, so I may experiment with updating that extension, @AstroSkipper style ;)

Thank you - might just be my dirty profile, that I carried over from my fireferret 52.9 installation (I cleand up some settings from it comparing with the clean ST profile). Savefrom usually worked...

Just a heads-up: I use SumatraPDF (v3.1.2 XP-last) on my systems sometimes with built in ST viewer.

I already did such kind of modifications in the past. As you surely know, the email client MailNews is actually only offered in the English language. Last year, I created a German language pack for MailNews from scratch. Additionaly, I had to add the German locale to MailNews's embedded calendar Lightning which is inside the omni.ja file and has to be modified separately. So, all a bit more complicated than usual. The effort was manageable in the end, however, translating is, as always, very time-consuming and a bit of hell. repareordi.gif That said I am now able to switch between the English and German language even though the translation isn't complete yet. Too much other projects. smilie_denk_24.gif And I do all translations manually and not automated to preserve the translation quality and to avoid generating syntax errors in the code. And yes, of course, separate extensions are easier to change and to test. :P Anyway! Have fun with your project! :)

... Apologies for asking, but your statement isn't quite clear to me :dubbio:... SumatraPDF is a standalone application that can handle (local) PDF files, how can it be used "with" Serpent 52's native (built-in) PDF viewer (pdf.js, written in Javascript) ? Do you actually mean that for PDF files on your system, you sometimes use SumatraPDF and other times you use St52 (as a PDF viewer) ?

FWIW, SumatraPDF used to come with a NPAPI plugin that could be configured to handle PDF files inside a supported browser (St52 is one ;) ), but that NPAPI plugin was removed, starting with SumatraPDF-3.0 :( ; apparently, there's a hacky way to keep using the last available plugin version (2.5.2) with newer versions of the SumatraPDF application, but this is an unsupported configuration, i.e. "you're on your own":

https://web.archive.org/web/20170424012056/https://github.com/sumatrapdfreader/sumatrapdf/wiki/Browser-plugin

Quote

... and Firefox will remove support for most NPAPI plugins by the end of 2016: NPAPI Plugins in Firefox
For those reasons, we stopped including the plugin since version 3.0.
That being said, we won't be deleting/disabling it, so if you really want it,
you can install 2.5.2 from the Previous versions page and then upgrade, which will preserve the plugin.

BTW it doesn't mean NM27 can do e10s, just some related code changes from this upstream commit are included.

I have usually downloaded pdfs before opening, so I use in-browser viewer if that is not an option.

The crash on YouTube before commenting keeps coming back. I might be able to get to the comments box if I take my time, and allow the loading to calm down beforehand. It happens in both New Moon 28 latest version, and Serpent 52.
