There are folks who are at least somewhat technically inclined, but who set up systems for others who are not as technically inclined (like their parents, perhaps). An auto-updater would avoid weekly trips, or signing in via Remote Desktop. In theory it should be simple: check o.rthost.cf for the latest build of whatever browser you're using; if newer than current build, download the newer version and schedule a delete of the old directory and rename of the new one when the browser isn't in use (on the next reboot, perhaps). You could even keep an old version or two around in case the newest version has problems.

If that machine can run Vista, you should install 7, which is much better, reliable and faster than Vista. you are heavily mistaken , reality is vista sp2 is better than windows 7

I agree that YOUR (ROYTAM) time is BETTER spent NOT getting involved with maintaining some AUTOUPDATER for say NM28XP. Let someone else do that. I would say that running your ANTI VIRUS software detection in an AUTOMATED manner (MALWAREBYTES for WinXP comes to mind, it has automated settings) say at least once a month, is MORE important than updating the NM28XP Browser. Say every two months, update the BROWSER manually. For a LOT of situations, that may be good enough for the BROWSER update activity. I think that it depends a LOT on what WEBSITES that you visit them. If you are mostly visiting known NEWS websites, doing some EMAILS, and maybe doing BANKING type activity, in my view, being certain that a VIRUS is not active is MORE important than updating the BROWSER. I realize that VIRUS prevention and updating the BROWSER go 'hand in hand' together somewhat. (Meant as humor) Plus, MANUALLY deleting the PALEMOON Folder and replacing it with the latest NEW NM28XP archive that I downloaded it makes me feel VERY GEEKY ... It helps to 'validate' me as a POWER USER
Monroe
I hope New Moon will not have auto-updating in any near future. First it was to change the name to something else and now auto-updating. I personally don't trust it will be 100% complete every time and then months down the road with weekly updates, it could be a mess. Only takes a few minutes to update but I have some of my own settings ... I remove all the search engines except for DuckDuckGo and I have a link for Google in Favorites. If you decide to go with auto-updating in the future ... also keep the plain type New Moon updates as you have now being released every week. I like to see what is going on and have some control.

Jody Thornton
Hey Guys: Giving Basilisk 55 a try. Does anyone know how to download and install the Google search engine? There is no longer a "Download Anyway" button on the Firefox Add-Ons pages (I guess because of XUL being deprecated) Edit: Never mind - I got it from here. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-Us/firefox/search-tools/general Edited August 29, 2018 by Jody Thornton

Jody Thornton
Well I do concede that New Moon is much faster than Basilisk 55, however - some sites don't render properly. On Walmart Canada's site, there are no prices or "add to cart" buttons on any products. But in Basilisk 55, the prices and buttons show up properly.
Jody Thornton
Are there any obvious tips to make Basilisk 55 render as fast as New Moon? I've modified the initialpaintdelay and content.notify settings to match what I have in New Moon. I've also reduced the max network connections to 250 (like in New Moon) EDIT: Turns out I'm an id*** - No not in the way @jaclaz or @submix8c used to think (kidding kidding). But the reason I had slowdowns? I had set the Max Entry Size for cached items to "1" instead of what I intended which was "-1" (for unlimited size. Now performance is much more comparable to New Moon. :p Whew! Edited August 29, 2018 by Jody Thornton
