They removed all original links to the version 18.8.4084.0 of AVG Antivirus Free and offer a previous version.

@Cixert With this statement, I meant especially the offline installer of AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0:yes:

Total Commander is my favourite and most used program, even under Android:thumbup I use Total Commander (formerly Windows Commander) since 1995 and can recommend it without any reservations due to 28 years only positive experiences. :cheerleader:

Thank you for mentioning this fantastic program! I've tinkered with it over the years and have always been impressed with it...and of course, the developers deserve major applause for continuing to support Windows 9x.
(It's very nice of them to keep the last Windows 3.x version available for download too!)

To this day it remains the gold standard for file managers...

You're welcome! To write about Total Commander was a personal concern for me.

Absolutely! I totally agree. Simply unbelievable! I don't know that from any other program.

I think so, too. :thumbup

Is there an up-to dale list with all the programs that were discussed in this thread?  I could not find one.

No, unfortunately not. I always use the forum search to find a program I am looking for here in this thread. The problem with such a list is its regular maintainance, which is a lot of work, of course. And there are only a few members who would take on such work.

Did you try the online installers I linked for you? And you are right. The offline installer for the version 18.8.4084.0 does not exist anymore as I already mentioned. It used to exist, but it has been completely removed.

Yes, this is the online installer AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0
http://web.archive.org/web/20181227134304if_/https://install.avcdn.net/avg/iavs9x/avg_antivirus_free_setup.exe
Thanks, but I don't like online installers at all.
I would like to live one day without the Internet and I don't trust that online installer can work within a year.

I totally agree. As I already wrote, I hate online installers, too. But in your case, you could use the online installer to download all necessary files which usually are saved in Windows' temp folder. When all files have been downloaded, you can save these files and cancel the installation.

... People ;) ... Do you know the Bible quote: "seek, and ye shall find" ?

With some perseverance (which always pays out, mind you ) and my mediocre searchengine-fu, it took me less than 10min to locate an official (by AVG) direct download link to the XP_EoS offline installer of AVG Free Antivirus product:

https://install.avcdn.net/avg/iavs9x-xp/avg_antivirus_free_setup_offline.exe

This fetches a 292MiB sized file, which has been dual-signed (sha1 file sig compatible with XP and sha256 sig compatible with Vista/WS2008 SP2 and later) on Nov 15th 2018:

You found this link: https://install.avcdn.net/avg/iavs9x-xp/avg_antivirus_free_setup_offline.exe
I found that one: https://install.avcdn.net/avg/iavs9x-xp/avg_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
The words antivirus and free have been interchanged with each other. Your link downloads the version 18.8.4084.0, my link the version 17.9.3761.0.
Conclusion: AVG is not able to give different installers reasonable names. TBH, I'm not surprised at all! Anyway! Good research and find! :thumbup
BTW, I can't recommend AVG Antivirus Free. It is unfortunately terrible and didn't work properly in my system. Makes quite good BSODs though! :P

Absolutely, my brother...it is a true and timeless sentiment.
Also, thank you very much for finding that installer...your efforts are highly appreciated!

I Looked, I searched and searched, maybe I was confused by the dance of names.
@AstroSkipper the trick to get AVG from temporary files I tried even with a file monitor. But dozens of strange files with no apparent meaning are downloaded.

TBH, I was expecting something like that. AVG is great, isn't it? sclindoeil.gif

Otter Browser, one of the few browsers left for XP, has dropped support as of April 17 2023. It was already based on an old version of QtWebkit and didn't work with Cloudflare.

Is there a program I can use to force rename or delete files that are too long on Windows XP? It's a bit annoying I have to bypass the waste bin to force delete.

In all versions of Windows, you can hold down the SHIFT key while pressing the DELETE key and that deletes the files without going to the Recycle Bin first.

I've always HATED the "recycle bin", it forces us to delete everything TWICE.
