  1. One possible effect of buggy support is when the writes go to a totally different LBA than the requested, damaging existing data. If you test just a part of the drive this may go undetected.
  2. Make a single partition for the whole capacity of that big drive, then use one of the first 4 tools from this page: 5 Tools to Test and Detect Fake or Counterfeit USB Flash Drives When it finishes you will know if it is safe to use all of the drive or just a part of it.
  3. This reminds me of a batch of HP d530 desktops we had at work few years ago. For 90% of these the first power on resulted in a lound bang from an IC exploding in the power suppply. Turns out HP had used some gum-like glue to fix various parts in place - that glue had started conducting over time. Our auditor guys had nightmares for weeks, lol.
  4. You should direct some (most) of this displeasement to lazy web devs that insist on using bloated JS frameworks for everything on a simple page.
  5. Umm, excuse my ignorance, but what did heinoganda do? As jaclaz says: I use this and it didn't need any kind of "porting"...
  6. Way back when i was using mostly DOS and Win9x (and HDD space was lacking), for resizing FAT i would start PartitionMagic and see what size would allow me to still use small enough clusters to not cause excess waste.
  7. One game i wanted to revisit and finish (but never got to, yet) is Dare to Dream I started it in the good old days, then lost it somewhere inbetween PC upgrades, HDD crashes, etc...
  8. @UCyborg True, this one is 404. Since the whole folder for it seems to be missing, maybe it got removed for some reason (author request, etc.)
  9. Downloads fine here. mirror - https://www89.zippyshare.com/v/a5Mt9CP4/file.html
  10. Which extension? You can download CAA from its github releases page. I just checked inside CAA and was able to download a random extension.
  11. It works! Looking at the contents, it would take me 15 months to write something like this, lol. Although i have nsIHttpChannel (among other things) in my bookmarks, so was already set on the right path
  12. Connecting together the left and right channels can be bad for the sound card. If some stereo sound drives the channels to opposite phases at high volume, it can damage the built-in amplifier. It may be fine for a short while, but better not stress the old hardware by running it continuously like this. To avoid this, set the output to "mono speakers" in Control Panel > Multimedia > Playback advanced properties, and/or in the driver settings. But better just use a single channel, or add a small mixer circuit. If you hear sound when the speaker is connected between the left and right wires (instead of the ground wire), then it is bad to twist them together.
  13. @Dave-H, WTF title?! Loads fine in Serpent52
  14. If you use raw disk images, just close 86Box and mount the image in the host using ImDisk. Copy the files, unmount, and start 86Box again.
  15. Simple solution - find a stable, semi-working build of W10 (as if such a thing exists, lol) and stay on it btw. how come your NVidia card not working properly makes the AMD FX platform unusable , huh?!
  16. Cool weather forecast desktop program + screen saver that uses Flash - YoWindow (limited giveaway) [edit] the giveaway seems to be over, free version is still good though. It's a quick way to check if your Flash player ActiveX still works in 2021
  17. @roytam1 Could you fix the links in the first post, please?
  18. Some useful links here: Where can I learn how to develop addons for Palemoon?
  19. @Feamane make sure you have a good backup before attempting any writes to it
  20. Did you somehow get a working version of the damn thing? I just downloaded to try it - the mouse buttons/wheel do absolutely nothing in the content area. The only ways to "scroll" (actually just switch pages) is to either use PgUP/PgDown keys, or select the page field in the toolbar and change it with keys/mouse. I can't even select text to copy in this. Full of bugs too. Besides the out of memory error... Open a .pdf, enable the preview panel, now close the document - the preview panel stays marked in the menu, but its status is reversed now. Also, try to enable the preview panel without a document opened - you get access violation error. When it bugs, it hogs my CPU making the whole OS almost freeze - this even with Process Lasso auto-lowering its priority to "below normal". I think that's enough issues for a 2 minute test. Feels like a crippled demo version. Sorry, but this recommendation sucks. @wimc I haven't tried the other suggestions, might have started FoxIt couple times while working on a client system, but no memories of it. SumatraPDF does the job for me. I even have it reopen last documents and it still starts fast. For ebooks FBReader works fine here - i actually used its Android version for a long time before trying the PC one. I've seen Calibre often suggested, but it doesn't support my PC... I keep CoolReader as an (unused) backup.
