Maybe try checking with RivaTuner?
-
The ACPI entry is just a placeholder, ignore it. First see if this really matters for your test scores. Disable the USB controller in BIOS settings, check if another device didn't take the same IRQ as your video card, and run the benchmark again.
-
The network was just an example, it could be any other device that use an IRQ. See this, the video shares its IRQ with the USB controller:

windows 98: how can i get the drivers id's?
RainyShadow replied to Joaquim's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Not sure what exactly you mean by drivers id's... For device IDs of your current hardware you can use PCIList (click on the AGP icon) To see device IDs supported by a specific driver, open its .INF file in Notepad, they are usually near the begining of the file. -
Just a wild guess - are you using IRQ sharing in Win98? If i.e. the video and the network card share the same IRQ, every time there is a network transfer it will slow down the video card. And maybe XP grouped the video with another less active hardware, or left it alone...

My Browser Builds (Part 2)
RainyShadow replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
That's some f@#$@d up implementation of lazyload. A script on that page is supposed to show the images after the page finishes loading. But, because the NM27 Javascript engine is kinda old, it fails to execute that. Usually this Greasemonkey script helps, but at this specific site they use two separate <image> elements - one for the placeholder image, another containing the true image address, and the second one lacks a src= attribute so our script fails too. Calling out to the local JS wizards - how do we modify the script, so it adds a src= attribute if it's missing? -
It can be anywhere if you modify SYSTEM.INI I set mine to P:\PAGEFILE.SYS which is shared with WinXP and Win7 @stvpls Dont forget to tell us what was using up your space when you find it :)

My Browser Builds (Part 2)
RainyShadow replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
The files in my profile\bookmarkbackups folder are all barely 11KB in NM27, while almost identical bookmarks in Serpent52 result in about 417KB big files. My oldest backup there is from 2020-07-29, so this bug must be older. In another profile i have a 438KB file from 2020-06-15. So, check the changes between 2020-06-13 and 2020-07-29 first. -

Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE
RainyShadow replied to galahs's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
@cov3rt v9 requires SSE2, i can't run it. With v8 i got score 241 in WinXP on my system (AthlonXP 3000+, 3GB DDR, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro AGP (512 MB)) I don't have a working video driver on my Win98SE, so won't be able to test it there. You can extract the v8 installer and run the test without installing. -
Streaming & Downloading Youtube Videos in 2020
RainyShadow replied to loblo's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Filter merits would make a difference when you have multiple compatible filters for a given media/protocol. If you have a single filter that supports decoding AVC1, it doesn't matter how high or low you set its merit (unless you set it as "blocked"). Also, players like MPC can use their own filter prioritizing, that don't affect the whole system. I don't have a working Win9x to check now, but can you guys try if you can run any of these: GSpot DirectShow Filter Manager Filmerit RadLight Filter Manager You should be able to change filter merits system-wide with these. Gspot can also (try to) play files. -
@schwups You can replace curl with wget, or any other similar program that is able to download files. Or you can instead download the files manually with your browser :P Actually, try running this in the command prompt or a bat file: explorer.exe http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authroots.sst explorer.exe http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/delroots.sst explorer.exe http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/disallowedcert.sst explorer.exe http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/roots.sst explorer.exe http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/updroots.sst pause updroots authroots.sst updroots updroots.sst updroots -l roots.sst updroots -d delroots.sst updroots -l -u disallowedcert.sst You should get 5 Open/Save/Cancel dialogs. Select to save in the same folder as uproots, then after all 5 are downloaded switch to the command prompt window and press a key.

No worries, just extract the archive and run VC.COM - no need to install anything. It's under 200KB. Get the latest version from here - https://vvv.kiev.ua/download/ Run it, pull down the menu (F9) and select "Full". Then F9 again, go to Options > Panels... and enable "Auto directory sizes". Now navigate to the top of the C: drive and dive into the folder with the biggest size shown.

Who's still using Win9x on the web besides me???
RainyShadow replied to ZortMcGort11's topic in Windows 9x/ME
What i love about bookmarklets (vs. addons) is that you don't download or install anything - they just sit idle in your bookmarks without using resources until you activate them -
Run Scandisk. If this doesn't fix it - get a copy of Volkov/Norton/whatever Commander and use the "Directory sizes" function, or just select folders (with the Insert key) to see their sizes. Go into the biggest folder, repeat until you find the culprit. Maybe it's not a single big file, but a folder with thousands of small files?

I tried this on my basilisk52 (2020.09.25 ia32) and nothing happened - no error. I moved the cursor over all visible cells of the table. Then i tried several more times... Just when i thought my build may not be affected - it happened, lol. Crash log here. -
Well, not really - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CURL It's a transfer utility, just like wget.

Try setting a mobile user agent as default, so most sites will switch to a mobile version. Printing stylesheets should be useful too, but i don't know a recent extension for your browser to enable those. -
When i did this i checked with USB drives and it worked fine. Probably Windows restored the original files for you...
