  1. If you're ever putting those back, make sure to preserve the exact same magenta colour. It masks the transparent part.
  2. @Rod Steel I extracted the installer, launched d3dGear directly and got it to display the splash screen, but then got error about missing install date in registry. I had v.4.31 expired trial from some years ago, so no point in trying to install this one here. If you happen to have Cameyo packager, you could try making a package in a VM and running that on your system. If the packager captures the install timestamp, you should be able to run it for 15 days.
  3. Do you have an actual Flash cache module installed and enabled? It is an addon SSD card, like the WiFi, etc. cards. It probably just modifies the settings in RAM, highly unlikely to break your BIOS. Worst case it could (theoretically) modify a NVRAM setting, if that ever prevented your laptop from booting/powering on , you can reset it by removing the CMOS battery for a few seconds. Could you post a short summary of how to replicate your current setup? I could try it on a D830 at work if i get some free time (that's a rare thing though, so no promises).
  4. Looks like AHCI mode is working fine. And it says "Ports: 2" So, the issue should be elsewhere, i think.
  5. Maybe tell them that it don't work anymore?
  6. And is specific for Roy's builds... I was thinking about something more generic and on MSFN. This would clear some clutter from the main XP forum and make looking for browser-specific things much easier.
  7. You could try running Hard Disk Sentinel for DOS, it shows the controller type before checking the drives. I am not sure what it means for a controller to be set as AHCI, but not enabled. Is it AHCI in Compatible vs. Native mode as it is worded in some BIOS setups? Or it means that just the port is disabled? Your Dell should have this setting, but since the HDD boots it is enabled already.
  8. Vistapocalypse, yup, searching for something here is a pain. Maybe start a new one each 3 or 6 months, regardless of posts count? I would prefer a "Browsers" subforum to host all related discussions. But this probably won't be accepted, just like my "Hardware & drivers" suggestion from the past...
  9. Thanks for the info, we3fan, but i was looking for a redistributable package. Mine is ver. 6.0.98.2, other programs seem to work with it.
  10. Unfortunately, it won't start here. I am getting a crash in msvbvm60.dll Same with Deep Explorer from that page. Anyone got a link to a working VB redistributable which contains this dll? Last time i installed the all-in-one redist package from github that was posted here recently, maybe it broke something...
  11. I am running version 12.04 (set to high priority), the newer ones feel sluggish even if they work. For the same reason i don't use Process Hacker, although an open-source alternative sound better at first... What i need from a Task Manager replacement is to be able to be fast and reliable when some runaway process tries to grind my system to a halt.
  12. WTF is GFWM (or GFWL)? This may be helpful. One post there mentions that you need MSN... It could also be a SSL issue. Do you use ProxHTTPSProxyMII or something similar?
  13. But Sombady Can Get Mad At You For Spamming The Forums With Useless Topics This Here Is Just Bragging Unless You Provide Details On The Process
  14. Maybe select "Properties" on the "Computer" entry and check for resource conflicts?
  15. You can use this tool to promote your account to admin, or to unlock/enable the default admin account.
  16. Is that for taking screenshots? I use the screen capture function in IrfanView. Or you can press the PrintScreen key and then paste in a drawing program like MS Paint. Use Alt+PrintScreen to capture a single window.
  17. Somewhat abandoned project, but MortScript is useful for simple programs. Once i made a helper bot for an online game with it. I have also seen it being used in car navigation systems as it supports WinCE.
  18. Check in BIOS setup and disable all the hardware you can, leave only the HDD you're installing to. Did you try booting Win98 after the BSOD? Maybe it would skip some problematic steps on the second try...
  19. Maybe some of these could help about printing: The Printliminator PrintWhatYouLike Some more on this list.
  20. There are different versions of standard BIOS that depend on graphic card.
  21. Probably just for legal reasons. Win95 had a Pan-European version, but i think it was only a localisation thing.
  22. 1. install XP 32bit, since it's the only OS supported at their site 2. check your GPU - there are separate BIOS downloads for ATI X300 Graphic Card, ATI X600, ATI X700 and Intel Graphic Card 3. download the BIOS for your GPU 4. forget about the whole thing, so you don't come back tomorrow asking how to fix your laptop to work again The available versions are 3A45 for ATI graphics and 3A43 for Intel. Why do you want to update it anyways?
