98SE install prep for Dell Latitude D830
RainyShadow replied to beansmuggler's topic in Windows 9x/ME
This is SATA, see the connector. D830 don't have IDE HDD ports, it has one SATA port for the HDD and one in the Media bay (CD/DVD, etc.) Maybe @deomsh asked if the SATA option in BIOS is set to IDE (ATA) emulation? -
98SE install prep for Dell Latitude D830
RainyShadow replied to beansmuggler's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Didn't your BIOS turn off the unused ports after the last settings reset anyways? Try the 4 port file and disable the inactive ports in Device manager. Or you can remove these lines and save it as AHCI3.inf : %MF\AHCI3.DeviceDesc% = GOODAHCI, MF\AHCI3 HKR,Child0003,HardwareID,,MF\AHCI3 HKR,Child0003,ResourceMap,1,00,01,02,03,04,05,06,07 HKR,Child0003,MFFlags,1,0C,00,00,00 MF\AHCI3.DeviceDesc= "AHCI Port 3" -
Well, this kinda got me motivated to fix my ancient laptop, which (due to defective power supply) has spent the last couple years just collecting dust on my table and serving as some kind of elevated platform for my mobile devices and a pile of various parts... It just occured to me that the power suppy (also external) for my monitor gives out the same voltage, so after patching an additional cable, now my trusty Dell Latitude x200 is back in action Gonna need some heavy cleaning though, as half of the keyboard keys won't work unless i hit them very hard... Specs: Pentium 3 @ 800MHz, 640MB RAM, i830 graphics, 160GB IDE HDD, also a floppy drive and a CD-RW in the dock. Dualbooting Win98SE and XP SP3. Not going to count the Win98SE on my main PC (XP SP3, Win7, Debian, Win98SE from most to least used), since the lack of proper video driver is killing my desire to boot it...

Adobe Flash, Shockwave, and Oracle Java on XP (Part 2)
RainyShadow replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows XP
@Tripredacus They recently added a "more options" link in the lower-right corner of that Supernova thing. You click that and a link to launch the game in Flash player shows up. If you have Flash set as click-to-activate, the page will reload after activating Flash, then you have to repeat this before it actually launches. Try it on the game Multitask 2, it worked yesterday. Unfortunately, none of the browsers on my PC can even reach that Supernova thing, so i don't get a "more options" link to click... just a blank frame and a bunch of errors in the console. I asked one of their devs to check with PM27 (and advertised MSFN a tiny bit ) so they can fix the launcher for us, no clue if they did anything though. -

Are you sure about the version? All i could find is Drop Sum v1.3 and Drop Sum v2. Both seem to work in the standalone Flash player v12 By Leaderboard do you mean the high scores tab on the game page, or it should be something within the .SWF ? This may be useful. -

Well, if you use these parameters, on the next normal check you may get those "cleanup" messages. And since you run the check on the system drive, it won't be able to do it right away and will ask you to schedule the check for the next boot... For now, run chkntfs /D , then chkdsk c: /f /x , then reboot. After this avoid running chkdsk manually for a while unless you have a real reason to do so. Use the PC normally and see if these cleanups appear again. -

Which game is that? The Supernova devs added a way to embed Flash player, but due to the way Kong is doing things it doesn't work for many games. You don't need neither the Supernova extension, nor the player for that. On the Supernova splash screen click on "More options" in the lower right corner and a link to start Flash player shows up. I found this collection couple days ago, is it the work of a MSFN member? :) I tried on my netbook both Chrome and FF English from it, they seem to do the work fine. You just have to click "more options" > "start Flash player" on the Supernova splash, then keep clicking "Run flash" every time when prompted. The first time you activate Flash the page reloads, then you repeat and it eventually starts. Never touch any "Update" buttons! As i said though, Kong's way of embedding broke it for many games. -

Thanks for the explanation, @VistaLover I guess NM28 will stay mostly unused here as long as NM27 works fine for me... Ctrl-TAB is limited to 6 previews as can be seen from your screenshot. For now i've adopted the Tab Groups extension, the only thing i don't like about it is that the grid covers the whole Serpent window, but i'll get used to this. -

This looks suspicious. I've never seen these parameters be used automatically, only when i manually include them out of curiosity. Start regedit and check the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute -

Sorry, i kinda lied here. Version 27.0.0.180 may be the last non-SSE2 NPAPI plugin for Windows, but having just booted my Debian install i found out that the last SSE build for linux is v.10.3.183.50 Additionally, i found out that the MSFN forums cause their tab to crash in Firefox 60.7.1-ESR for some reason... -

@UCyborg This looks similar enough, thank you! -

I doubt it is Acronis, but you never know... If indeed it is the culprit and it uses those "unused entries" to mark files for backup (or already backed-up), then cleaning them with chkdsk would either make it do unneeded backups or skip files that should be backed-up. It may also be another program using those for whatever purpose. Or it could be an indication for issues with the system itself (hardware, firmware, etc.). -
My Browser Builds (Part 2)
RainyShadow replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Thanks for the replies. I use separate profiles in the program folder too. But the browsers check those mentioned settings in %APPDATA% for the profile locations, hence the issue. Could there be any problem if i accidentally started both NM27 and NM28 at the same time (with different profiles)? -
Here is an easier one (same as above) Maybe you included the dot at the end after exe ? As for: you can usually try other snapshots by replacing the date in the address with an asterisk. Then pick one from the calendar. The file version may not be the same though, try ones closer to the original date. So https://web.archive.org/web/20190502052352/http:// becomes https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://

The tutanota main page flashes briefly, but gets blanked as soon as all loading is done. I also get an error when using my proxy, so had to go with direct connection. I managed to quickly click the login link, it opens in a new tab and loads fine. Try going directly there - https://mail.tutanota.com/login The server at tutanota.com seems to be having issues currently, the other server at mail.tutanota.com appears to be fine. The other two mail providers load fine here.

Maybe it is caused by booting another OS that records additional attributes for the files? Do you multiboot on that PC? With one of my testing HDDs at work Win7 was doing some extensive repairs every time i had booted Win10 previously. I think turning off hybrid sleep fixed it. -
My Browser Builds (Part 2)

Last week i noticed that NM28 use the same settings and profiles as NM27. So, after quickly testing it in a new profile, i left it for later... and didn't touch it since, lol. Is there an easy way to "unlink" those two? I have some old settings in %APPDATA%\Moonchild\Pale Moon\ last modified Feb-2019 And another folder %APPDATA%\Moonchild Productions\ which seems to host my current browsers (Serpent52, NM27+NM28) Is there a change i can do in the NM27 program folder so it uses the older settings folder? Is there any danger after loading a profile in NM28 for it to break for NM27 (lost settings, files updated to other format, etc.)? On an unrelated note, i see that NM28 supports the browser.allTabs.previews setting, while Serpent52 doesn't. I currently have exactly 100 tabs open in NM27 and i can change them easily with this set to true. In the same time navigating the tabs in Serpent52 (currently less than 30) is starting to become harder, i can imagine how it would be if i hit 100 tabs there as well. Would it be too much work/bother for you to copy/paste the browser.allTabs.previews support from NM28 to Serpent52? Both are UXP, so it should be possible, right? Are you willing to do this, please? Pretty please with a cherry on top! I added the setting as a boolean in Serpent52, but it doesn't do anything. P.S. Something i wanted to ask ever since you announced the SSE build of NM28... How was this accomplished? Did you ported the SSE2-dependent functions to SSE, or simply removed/disabled them? -

After you select "Block element" there sould appear a small window in the lower right corner. You must click the "Create" button there in order to actually create a blocking filter. -
Adobe Flash, Shockwave, and Oracle Java on XP (Part 2)
RainyShadow replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows XP
Do you guys think this would be a good download page to pass along to people? It has v.32.0.0.161 beta of the NPAPI plugin. A 20MB download definitely beats the half GB debug archive. Any significant changes compared to v.32.0.0.171 ? Additional links: v.32.0.0.380 (latest), v.27.0.0.180 (SSE) Unfortunately the installer archives are much less than the page archives... Also, @dencorso, since now Flash is officially EOL, could you edit the OP with a short summary and links to some revelant posts, please? -

They seem to me screwing-up with the site code to add that SuperNova thing, sorry. The direct URL for the game is http://chat.kongregate.com/gamez/0009/4075/live/myth_rider_cs3.swf Here is another page i sometimes use to check Flash - http://www.snailsanimation.com/benchmark08_play.php -
hello how to enable tls 1.2 and if possible also 1.3
RainyShadow replied to HaytamFrh's topic in Windows XP
Everything you need to know is in the first few posts there. Install kb4019276 and kb4316682, then enable TLS 1.2 in IE settings. If it doesn't show up as an option, save the following as a .reg file and import it: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\CRYPTO\TLS1.1] "OSVersion"="3.5.1.0.0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\CRYPTO\TLS1.2] "OSVersion"="3.5.1.0.0" P.S. avoid double-posting. You can easily edit your last post instead. -

Nice game to check your Flash player It may be my foggy memory, but i remember it playing smoother 5 years ago on this same system (GeForce 7600GS back then, Radeon HD 2600 Pro now) ... Dunno if it's because of the newer browser or newer Flash version, but the action often freezes for a bit now. -
For the Toshiba drivers make sure they are fully unlocked, the ones i tried previously enter some kind of "trial" mode on a non-Toshiba system. Although it was on XP with a Btu2030-d50 module (taken from a Fujitsu laptop) connected to an Asus mobo, driverpacks suggested the Toshiba stack If possible, first download the drivers for all three modules and check if they support WinME.

OK, WTF happened to MSFN?! In NM27 the Like/Upvote buttons are just huge gray blobs.
