  1. The quality of connection you get from unsecured wireless access points is not that good... it'd be sufficient for light web-browsing, e-mail, and IM but definitely not for any sort of gaming which requires a sustained reliable connection.
  2. I think certain fonts are limited to the sizes because if they were shown at those unique sizes, they would look weird (unreadable). I mean, it's one thing to get your head around why this and why that regarding fonts, but think again about how they would actually look. Just pick your 3 favorite fonts and live with it... Only bitmap fonts have a limited set of sizes they can be used at, TrueType fonts can be scaled to any size without a loss of quality. The only use bitmap fonts find today is for the printing of barcodes... other than that it's all TrueType now. This is an illogical limit in the software, not the inherent characteristic of the font file itself. I can make MSword display 0.5pt font if I want, and it'll even print it legibly on my laser printer.
  3. ShellNew registry key option. Google it.
  4. The 98SE kernel is much more stable than the 95 one and doesn't require much more in the way of CPU power and RAM. Combine it with the 95 shell and your OS is going to be excellent.
  5. ... Tools -> Folder Options -> View Uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files and enable Show Hidden Files Uncheck Hide Extensions for Known File Types...
  6. NTFS alternate data streams? http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles/Alt...ta_Streams.html
  7. Filename "DELPHI10.ZIP" filesize ~20M Search for it...
  8. It must appends the ".lnk" to name... DEL "%userprofile%\Desktop\clean.lnk" Pause DEL "%userprofile%\Desktop\vidpatch.lnk
  9. I wouldn't go for a reinstall of XP on the new hard drive if the old install was working well. I'd just copy *all* the files over to the new hard drive while it's connected as a slave, fix the bootsector/bootloader, then shut down and reconnect them so that the new one is primary, and reboot. It worked for me when I migrated from a 40Gb drive to a 120Gb one. It just booted normally as if nothing had happened.
  10. Macromedia Flash MX 2004 Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004 The only two that use it on my system. (Probably the other Macromedia products too... I have them but I don't need them so I didn't install them.)
  11. I'd go with Intel, simply because when 98se was released the dominant processors were Intel and their code is optimised for it. A late-model P4 D should work very well, and aren't subject to quite the same thermal problems that AMDs are known for.
  12. Have you nLited your XP installation? That can reduce the space requirements quite a bit. You can normally get it down to 1Gb or less.
  13. I don't think you can make them stay since they've been unmounted. A and B cannot be DVD or CD since those two letters are traditionally reserved for the floppies. Just live with it.
  14. It is much easier to boot from a secondary media and reset the password than to recover the original one.
  15. Format as FAT32 for the best compatibility. USB drives can be formatted just like harddrives and floppies.
  16. 50°C is a normal temperature for full load, not of any concern. I'm used to temperature monitors reading out in Celsius, so that 121° was really surprising
  17. Go back to the XP/NT forum where you belong and post here http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=69735&st=0Get the fastest hardware you can. 98se will fly on it.
  18. 20/10 partitioned? Lost clusters.
  19. Windows font viewer MS-Word document of all fonts.
  20. 121°?!?! You certainly need better cooling if you want that CPU to survive for much longer! Keep it below 70°!!
  21. You should clean out the heatsink and fan, then reseat it with a small amount of new thermal compound. Run a CPU-heating program like Prime95 and monitor the temperatures.
  22. Intel CPUs have automatic overheating protection. They'll slow down if the temperature exceeds ~72°C, and shut down completely at 120°. It's almost impossible to damage them by overheating.
  23. Cracked screen or defective LCD controller?
  24. I'm still using Winamp 2.72 for MP3 playing. Works fine and isn't too bloated. However, for watching video I use Microsoft Activemovie. It's even less resource-consuming than WMP.

Doesn't the Windows command processor already have an undocumented TRUENAME command?
