  1. "Minimalistic"? I think you can just use Windows Explorer to copy your MP3s to the 'pod...
  2. Run MemTest86 and see how much RAM it reports. Check to make sure you don't have a MaxPhysPage= line in your system.ini
  3. Support for ME has been long discontinued, I doubt Microsoft even has any extra ME CDs they'll send you.
  4. You can already access the internet with a virgin install if your network is configured properly and all drivers are installed. If you want a service pack, there is an Unofficial Service Pack forum above.
  5. Is there anything wrong with the joystick hardware itself? I.e. does it work in another game?
  6. This looks more like a hardware problem. Make sure your CPU and RAM are working correctly.
  7. I think that's a problem with their software. I've had a few softwares that did that, not refreshing the window contents properly.
  8. Wrong. All NT-based OSs can read/write NTFS filesystems.
  9. He says it's been used before... if you'll read more carefully next time Does a drive letter show up in My Computer? Can you mount it from disk management? You could also try one of the disk recovery programs mentioned before (search these forum threads), but of course if the device is physically damaged then you're not going to have much success.
  10. Problem is with the LCD controller or the contacts. Press on the area surrounding the LCD (*not* the LCD surface itself) and see if the top half comes back. If it does, then it's the contacts that are loose.
  11. My Text Document shows up on the New menu... in ShellNew subkey the default value is empty and there is a single string value named NullFile, which is also empty. Try that.
  12. I've been using IE 5.5 for a few years now with none of the problems that users normally complain about... it just has to be configured with the correct security settings to be safe. Unless there are sites that specifically require a feature of IE 6.0, then I see no reason to upgrade.
  13. I believe you can download IE from the Microsoft site.
  14. Has your CPU been underclocked or receiving insufficient cooling? Intel CPUs will slow down if they get too hot, which can happen if the heatsink is not contacting the processor's surface adequately.
  15. Why would they call it an "integrated" if it comes on a separate card? I was expecting an integrated chipset on a mobo.
  16. That's even easier to fix if just the solder joint is cracked. A few seconds with a soldering iron should fix it.
  17. What is wrong with the batch file? If it works fine then keep using it.
  18. Too lazy to type in 8 letters into an editbox? http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=ShellNew&meta=
  19. Is DMA mode enabled for your hard drives?
  20. Your BIOS needs to be configured so that the CD-ROM is positioned before the hard drive in the boot order setting.
  21. Run a FileMon (from www.sysinternals.com) to see what process is creating/reading/writing these files. I don't have any of them so I can't tell you.
  22. Save it as BMP, open that BMP and convert to PNG, then save that PNG as BMP (of same settings). Now FC the two bitmap files and they should be byte-identical. If I remember correctly, JPG at 100% is still slightly lossy due to the DCT process used.
  23. ...overheat? Check your CPU cooling.
  24. Are you sure that's a 7200RPM? It seems more like a 10,000 or 15,000 to me... either that or it has a huge cache. Also, what kind of drive were you copying to? On my WD1200JB (7200RPM, 8M cache) the highest I've seen is 93MB/s for burst speed and 38MB/s sustained.
  25. If it's just the connector that's broken, an electronics repair shop would probably be able to solder in a new one for under $10US.
