  1. I'm using the OWC drivers too. I believe they came on the chipset drivers CD for my mobo.
  2. It works if you attach the device before turning on, because the BIOS mounts the USB storage devices as hard drives which WinXP can use correctly. Your USB Mass Storage Device driver maybe corrupted or missing.
  3. Attach a floppy drive. Boot from the floppy to a DOS prompt and then run WINNT.EXE in the I386 directory of the Windows CD.
  4. Right-click, select Encoding, and choose the correct one (in IE.) Also make sure that you have the correct fonts installed.
  5. Is standby mode enabled in the BIOS?
  6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclock
  7. Unplugging/plugging in the floppy power while the machine is on shouldn't cause any damage unless you shorted something out in which case the PSU should've turned off anyway. I've unplugged/replugged floppy drives many times already (when realigning them) and haven't had this problem once. It might just be a coincidence or a bad static discharge. You rebooted, or the machine rebooted itself after you plugged it in? The latter indicates that you did indeed short something out.Remove the CMOS battery, unplug the power to the system, wait 30 minutes, then replace the CMOS battery and restore power.
  8. Are those idling or full-load temps? If they're full-load, that's perfectly fine. If it's idle, you might want to reseat the heatsink. (Thermal compound does *not* have to cover the entire CPU surface, only the middle where the core is is important.) Also check to see if you have an adjustable-speed fan, and that it isn't set to Low.
  9. LCD controller or screen is dead. Backlight and inverter are fine.
  10. You can edit one of the INI files and it will not ask for a previous version. (I can't remember which one, but I've seen it on these forums here before.)
  11. This is hilarious I don't know why anyone would want to make 3.1 look like XP. Making it look more like 9x would be better But that's still some very large effort!
  12. Delete NTLDR from the boot drive and try again.
  13. Huh? LGA = Land Grid Array which is what "socket" (better to call it a mounting pad) the pinless Celeron D uses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_T
  14. Has your primary partition been made active?
  15. Use the event to run a console-type mailer (there are many available, examples would be bmail.exe and smtpsend) with the appropriate command-line parameters.
  16. Don't believe everything they say A script, proxies, and patience works for me...
  17. Did you drop it, apply excessive pressure to the screen, etc.If you see white screen and the moving lines the LCD controller might be shot. Backlight/inverter problems cause flickering or anomalies in brightness, but the image is still going to be more or less there. Bad cabling might be the cause; you can open and close it several times and see if the problem gets worse or better.
  18. Does the drive spin up, and does it make any strange noises?
  19. Put your pagefile on the faster drive. This will increase the performance. Also, size is not an indicator of speed. It's the rotational speed which counts. E.g. WD Raptor 10K RPM drives don't hold much (18, 36 and 74Gb) but they're much faster than e.g. a 300Gb 7200RPM drive.
  20. Get a larger antenna and you'll have better reception. For the FM antenna, you need to hang it so that it looks like a big T: -------------+-------------- | | | | The two capped ends are at the top, and the end with the wires goes downward and connects to the receiver.
  21. You'll notice the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit only if you run programs that take advantage of the additional features of 64-bit mode. Otherwise the experience is almost identical.
  22. Are you sure it's not your videomode set improperly? Does safemode work?
  23. Right-click and disable Auto-arrange?

Often, copying its entire Program Files directory and its registry keys is enough. You may have to find and also copy some other stray files, but other than that it works well.
  25. 1Gb is a bit small for XP/2K... but if the BIOS supports booting from other removable storage devices then I guess it should work... though really you need at least 2Gb and 4Gb is a good amount.
