In fact, I've installed that Alpha to the directory of stable 10.10 version but I don't know if that was a reason for my unsuccessful run. I can't uninstalled KernelEx because some of my programs required it's presence.
-
Modicr, I've tried 3228 build of Opera 10.5. It was possible to install it but it can't run (despite of help of KernelEx 4.5 beta 1). As I've seen, officialy the oldest supported system is Win 2000 (similar to Firefox).

Windows 98SE - uTorrent 1.8.4 Build 16688 Question
rainyd replied to Monroe's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Sorry but I couldn't agree with you. Yes, both are BT clients but IMHO, BitTorrent (I've used it in the past) is some sort of bloatware compared to uTorrent. Duffy98, as to the your question: I have 1.8.5 version and it works but I'm using KernelEx 4.0 Final 2. I've installed also version 2.0 RC4 but I don't know how it works - I haven't tested it yet. -
As I presume, it could be problem of my old Windows installation (it was installed on 13 March 2004!) but Firefox 3.6 isn't stable enough with beta version of KernelEx. Because of that, I've switched to KernelEx 4.0 Final 2 and Firefox 3.5.7 and that duo working very well. Interesting, that ffdshow (rev. 3200) and MediaInfo Lite 0.7.27 are still working (looks like that was just an installation problem).

Bit off-topic: halohalo, you haven't problem with SeaMonkey 1.1.18? Because of some issue, I'm still using SeaMonkey 1.1.17.
-
Loblo, my question was concerned specifically to the chunk not Vcache size. Still, I don't know what is advantage having 2048 bytes instead of 1024.
-
I'm pleased to report that all programs which I had a problem with, are working great with latest beta version! Even more: newest revision (3200) of clsid ffdshow doesn't require an old (2322) revision for configuration panel anymore. I''ll check more applications soon. Xeno, Tihiy, big thanks for a beautiful piece of work! Btw, Xeno, you have a volunteer (Ramiro Polla). IMHO, having more brains in your small team isn't a bad idea.

Dencorso, thank you for the reply - I'll check those settings. Btw, for tweaking them, I'm using old but fine freeware program called Cacheman (version 5.50).
-
What value guys, you recommend for 1 GB of RAM? I've set MinFileCache=64 MB, MaxFile Cache=256 MB and chunk size=1024 (what sort of benefit you can expect with higher value of it?). Btw, I'm interested what you think abou that article: http://www.thpc.info/ram/vcache.html

Dencorso, thank you for the reply and interesting link.

As I understand, it's possible to install and running such type of disk on our old buddy. My question is whether it's worth to be taken into consideration? Btw, from that article looks like, that in term of use SSD, another oldie (Windows 2000) is better than newer OSes: http://www.liliputing.com/2008/12/whats-th...ndows-2000.html

Wsxedcrfv, you can install Java 6 till update 7 without KernelEx. Newer versions require KernelEx. No, you can install update 18 (yes, it's a newest version) but again with KernelEx. No, specifically Firefox 3.6 require at least Java 6 update 10 - check info from my link.
-
You need KernelEx (I'm using latest version) to install it. On the beginning of installation process you would be warned that your system (e.g. Win98 SE) isn't on the list of supported systems but that's all. Btw, I was wrong: with update 17 you need also to disable that Java next-generation plugin.
-
I've installed Java 6 update 18 and it works OK but for proper detection you need (at least that was in my case) to disable Java next-generation plugin (it wasn't necessary in update 17). Btw, one important info: NOTE: The Firefox 3.6 browser requires Java SE 6 Update 10 or later. Otherwise, Java-based web applications will not work.

I'm running that version too - no problem at all (Win98 SE + SP 2.1b + KernelEx 4.0 Final 2).
-
Like wsxedcrfv, I'm running the same version of uTorrent (but I have KernelEx 4.0 Final 2). As far as I know it doesn't required KernelEx at all.
-
I want to report a problem: Win98SE KernelEx 4.0 Final 2 Codec Tweak Tool 4.1.0, MediaInfo Lite 0.7.26 and ffdshow r3176 2010-01-02 (clsid) give an error: "Stream read error" and then e.g. "Exception EAccessViolation in module CodecTweakTool_410.TMP at 0002B902". "Access violation at adress 004B902 in module CodecTweakTool_410.TMP. Write of adress 80000002."

Installing ffdshow filter or Haali Media Splitter should resolved such problem (KernelEx is handy for those programs).

Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE
rainyd replied to galahs's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
I prefer to stay with µTorrent - it's great, small BT client. I've liked Azureus but Vuze is so bloated that I can't recommend it to anyone. -
Just for curiosity, I've checked MySpace and no problem at all (I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.22pre). Maybe it's issue with the Flash (I've latest 10 version of it)?

KernelEx App Compatibility Database
rainyd replied to Th3_uN1Qu3's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I've tried - it was possible to install it but it doesn't work on test page (version for alternate browsers). Because of that, I'm using the same version as you. Btw, here you have a small thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/shockwave-player-t139333.html -
As you said, the major problem is hardware (and of course drivers for it). Here you have interesting article: http://www.guru3d.com/article/accelerate-x...-the-gpu-guide/

Sorry for that question but it's a legal version? I haven't seen such thing on WinRar site. I've legal 3.90 version and it works without any problem. -
I don't using IE and IMHO, IE 6.0 is one of the worst browsers. I've tried to install Shockwave for alternate browsers and surprisingly for me it was possible (with the help of KernelEx and registry trick) but it doesn't work on Adobe test page.
