  1. Through the wonderful effort of Xeno and Tihiy (KernelEx 4.0 Final 2) I can run stable latest version of VLC (1.0.2). If you haven't tried KernelEx yet, I recommend you give it a try.
  2. I'm using WDM driver from Audigy 2 ZS package on my old Audigy 1 (but you need a special tool to cheat installation program).
  3. I've exactly the same message/problem on Win98 SE. I hope it could be resolved because I prefer to use the latest version of SeaMonkey.
  4. Can I ask what brings you to this win-9x forum then? You don't use 98, you don't like it, and I don't think I've seen you post anything constructive or helpful here about win-98. It's a good question IMO and I'd like to know, why you're wasting your precious (as I guess) time on Win9x zealots forum?
  5. Results with KernelEx 4.0 Final 2: - VLC Media PLayer 1.0.1 works good - MPC 6.4.9.1 (build 104) as above - latest version of Haali Media Splitter, no glitches - Real Alternative 1.90 (Lite) also without problem - Quick Time Alternative 2.9.0 (I haven't tested latest 2.9.2) - installation goes smoothly but you can't use settings/configuration - program call control.exe from Windows/System - ffdshow (clsid2) similar situation, after installation no access to configuration panel Problem with ffdshow resolved: you must install latest version (build 2322) compatible with Win9x, then a recent one (in my case that was build 3054) over it. In that way, you've latest version and you can configurate it too!
  6. Xeno, Tihiy, big thanks guys for KernelEx 4.0 Final 2! It's even better than previous version. I understand that those damned spammers from my country (unfortunately) are more than annoying but we have in Poland really bad associations as regards collective responsibility (from WW2).
  7. Yes, I remember about K-Meleon or Flock (in fact, I haven't tested them) but I mean just major browsers. In that way, Opera is practically the last one.
  8. No, without it. Opera 10 is the last modern browser (if you do not count SeaMonkey) you can run on Win9x.
  9. I'm running latest Opera 10 Beta 3 build 1708 on Win98 SE without problem/s. I've tried Chrome with KernelEx 4.0 Final but it doesn't work (I haven't tried Safari).
  10. Gape, it's great to see you back! Thank you very much for keeping working/updating this wonderful project.
  11. Despite that we (Win9x users) are limited with browser choice, I agree with those who think that IE 6 should die. I was never fan of IE and IMHO even in 2001, IE 6 wasn't a good browser. Nowadays this is just terrible piece of software. With help of KernelEx you can ran Firefox 3.5 (yesterday, I've tested pre 3.5.3) and without it SeaMonkey, Opera, K-Meleon, Flock (maybe something else). If some security issues are not a problem there's also Firefox 2 (last version released on December 2008).
  12. Yes, I had the same problem (unfortunately, development of very good alternative - GSpot was stopped long time ago). Surprisingly, Lite version of it working without problem: http://www.codecguide.com/download_other.htm
  13. Yes, VLC 1.0.1 running without problem under Win98 SE but with the help of KernelEx 4.0 Final. Without it you can't install VLC on Win9x systems.
  14. That's true but Opera works without KernelEx (personally, I'm using Opera 10 Beta 2) and VLC need it (in fact, latest version is 1.0.1). Btw, halohalo, thank you for the links with latest Java JRE.
  15. That was a real surprise for me but yes, that manual update to newest version (Flash 10) works great - I've tried a couple sites including Adobe test page. Thank you! Btw, it is possible to achieve similar effect with Shockwave Player (I'm using old 10.2 version)?
  16. Today, Adobe released new versions of Flash Player 9 and 10. 9.0.246.0 works perfectly under Opera 10 Beta 2 but I have some problem with Firefox 2.0.0.22 pre and SeaMonkey 1.1.17 (without KernelEx of course). 10.0.32.18 refused to install (complaining about older operating system) despite of registry trick and setting KernelEx 4.0 Final in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode for it.
  17. Yes, I can confirm that too. Xeno, Tihiy, I'm even more impressed guys!
  18. Fantastic news! Xeno, (of course Tihiy too) thank you so much guys for your hard work and devotion! I've tested (shortly) latest version and indeed crashes (not hard) of some programs are vanished! Still I have problem with Chinese/Japanese characters (Firefox 3.5.1) - I had it with previous versions of KerneEx too. My configuration: 1. Win98 SE 2. KernelEx 4.0 Final 3. Firefox 3.5.1 4. characters are not displayed correctly
  19. Kurono91, this trick doesn't work in my case (Firefox 2.0.0.22 pre). Firefox recognized Flash 10 but when I've tried to use it on YouTube or Adobe test page, the window was empty.
  20. No, this has nothing to do with installed fonts. Under Firefox 2.0.0.22 pre, I haven't such problem.
  21. I can confirm too, that FF 3.5 works smoothly with one exception: I've problem with Chinese/Japanese characters - they're not displayed properly. Could anyone help me, how to fix that (if this is possible of course)?
  22. Another one is Vallen JPegger: http://www.vallen.de/freeware/#Vallen%20JPegger
  23. Java 6 update 14 was officialy released - here you have release notes: http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/6u14.html As to the your question: I have glitches with the latest version of KernelEx (probably as the effect of other patch).
  24. As I understand, you're using the latest version of KernelEx (RC2). Could you install and test Java 6 update 14?
  25. I know, that Java 6 is faster is than Java 5 but still there's question - it's better using older (unpatched, with bugs) version of Java 6 or latest version of Java 5? On the other hand, on 30 October Java 5 will reach EOL - http://java.sun.com/products/archive/eol.policy.html Btw, recently, Sun released Java 5u19 and Java 6u14.
