  1. Hi guys, I want to enable AHCI mode on my laptop, and see if that improves my SSD speed. My specs: CPU: Motherboard > Southbridge: Intel 82801GHM (ICH7-M/U) : Device Manager > SATA Controller: SATA Controller > Hardware Ids: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C4&SUBSYS_13471043&REV_02 : AS SSD Benchmark 1.8: I know this could be tricky to pull off, so I made a Backup in case of BSOD. I don't know if my Motherboard supports AHCI mode, I hope it does. Because I don't have AHCI switch in BIOS I guess I have to make the switch by changing few things in Registry. Which AHCI driver do you suggest I try? And what changes I need to make in Registry to enable AHCI mode? Thanks for your time.
  2. Thanks, great info as always. I see some of the Fujitsu owners with 945PM Chipset who achieved 4GB RAM had BIOS: Alienware 1.19w and Alienware 2.07W . And there is always the possibility that it will still not detect 4GB RAM. Of course the main reason for BIOS update is the Core 2 Duo. I will check Soggi's archive to find compatible program for my AMI BIOS. And I will first make a backup of my current BIOS if I decide to update it. Is Alienware a modded BIOS? Is it installed the same way as normal BIOS update? Yes, some S96S owners were complaining that the fan was ON more often after BIOS update. My laptop model is S96J, I don't know it that makes any difference. S96S came out 1 year later, and (according to the review) it originally shipped with Core 2 Duo and had nVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS, as opposed to my model S96J which has ATI Mobility X1600. I also noticed that many S96S owners said that their nVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS failed after some time, so I consider myself lucky in that regard. If I update my BIOS normally from the official ASUS website, but I still use my old Core Duo T2500 CPU, do you think it will still make the fan turn ON more often? Unfortunately, there is no switch for SATA-2 mode in my laptop BIOS. After BIOS update maybe there will be, not sure. I will try to find the right driver. The reason for SATA-1 limitation on my ASUS laptop is probably my current configuration and driver. If I try 10 different SSD brands with my current configuration and driver, they will show roughly the same speed?
  3. From 100+ Linux distros available I have only tried around 10. My favorite for now is Puppy Linux Tahrpup 6.0.5: http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/puppylinux/puppy-tahr/iso/tahrpup -6.0-CE/tahr-6.0.5_PAE.iso (205 MB) Screens: You can put it on CD or USB and boot from it. It installs into RAM Memory and works very fast. Has a cute background image. Some of the pre-installed programs: Pale Moon 25.8.1 - default browser, opens most sites, can’t open YouTube; If you want another browser you need to install it additionally VLC media player 2.1.6 IRC HexChat 2.10.2 GParted 0.16.1 (partition manager) Burniso2cd (burn ISO to CD) Screeny Capture (screenshot) quickpet - can easily install many other programs like Steam, Chrome, Firefox, guvcview for your camera, download and install is automatic Other recommended Linux distros that I haven't tried yet: Peppermint OS Linux Lite MX Linux Slax Zorin OS Lite Bodhi Linux Sparky Linux Tiny Core Linux Linux Mint Manjaro Linux Tinycore LXLE AntiX Linux Alpine Arch Linux Q4OS EasyOS Salix OS
  4. Thanks guys. After some digging I found out that the max RAM supported by my Motherboard Chipset is 3GB. I put two 2GB RAM sticks (4GB total) and in System Properties > General - it still shows: 2,87 GB of RAM. In BIOS > System Memory > Usable Size 2944 MB. This will probably not work, but - Will BIOS update make it support 4GB RAM? Off Topic: @Rod Steel - I really appreciate your recommendations. Luckily I have an old version of MiniTool that works in XP. I also got Solid State Doctor 3.0.3.2 some time ago when I was looking for TRIM programs for XP. The SSD speed shows (in MB/s): Asus XP laptop, Core Duo T2500 CPU: 132 Read, 112 Write, 4K: 17 Read, 29 Write HP Win7 laptop, Core 2 Duo T5750 CPU: 260 Read, 178 Write; 4K: 19 Read, 43 Write The SSD was tested previously on clean XP install on both laptops When I saw that the SSD speed on the HP laptop is much higher (especially the Read speed) I thought maybe I can try some drivers to improve the SSD speed on the Asus laptop. I tried all these (1 by 1, followed by PC restart): - CPU Hotfix\WINDOWSXP-KB896256-V3-X86.EXE - Intel(R) ICH7-M Family Serial ATA Storage Controller - 27C4 - Intel(R) 82801 PCI Bridge - 2448 - Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GU/PM/GMS/940GML/943GML and Intel(R) 945GT Express Processor to DRAM Controller - 27A0 - Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GU/PM/GMS/940GML/943GML and Intel(R) 945GT Express PCI Express Root Port - 27A1 - Intel(R) ICH7M/U LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 But the SSD speed was same. Maybe that's the max speed for this CPU, not sure. Which driver do you suggest I try in order to improve the SSD speed on the Asus laptop?
  5. @VistaLover Great advices already by Humming Owl and RainyShadow. You can try few things yourself, to check what could be the problem by a process of elimination. If you have 2 RAM sticks, take out 1 and try starting your laptop just with 1 RAM stick, if it still gives black screen try only with the other RAM stick. Here is a video how to change RAM sticks - How To Add Ram Toshiba Satellite Laptop Increase Memory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vbxHF9w3ZE I only advise not to touch the RAM stick on the "golden" contacts, and hold it on the white labels instead. The advice to try with external monitor to check if the screen is the problem is also good.
  6. Thanks Rod Steel, this is really great info, I could try upgrading my notebook CPU at some point, I think it would be worth it. Off Topic: My SSD (Samsung 860 EVO) performed almost twice as fast on my HP Win7 laptop CPU (Core 2 Duo T5750), compared to my Asus XP laptop CPU (Core Duo T2500), so upgrading to Core 2 Duo T7600 should improve the SSD speed even more I think. I wonder if installing a SATA driver or similar could improve my SSD speed on my current Asus XP laptop CPU (Core Duo T2500)?
  7. Try the suggestions of RainyShadow and Skorpios first. If nothing works, leave the installing of new Chipset driver as a last resort, we don't know if that would help also. Before you do that, make a backup (Image of your System or just your C: Partition where your Windows is installed, Restore Point, Registry backup). I think it is better to Uninstall the existing driver first and then Install the new one, and PC Restart in between.
  8. You said you tried all Audio drivers from that support page and no improvement, hmm. Maybe installing some other Chipset driver for your M6400 could help with your audio problem?
  9. @TigRex - Yes, that's probably the case, thanks. Thanks jaclaz, always appreciated. Unfortunately, I didn't find such setting in my laptop BIOS. Now for the interesting part, let's see how much RAM it will detect out of 4GB. I will try to find and buy 1 more 2GB RAM stick, DDR2 2GB 667MHZ PC2-5300 SO-DIMM, hopefully decently priced, from Europe.
  10. Thanks guys. My XP laptop detected the additional 2GB RAM stick, all seems to work OK for now. But in System Properties > General - it shows: 2,87 GB of RAM. Is this normal? I was expecting to show 3,00 GB of RAM.
  11. Google search for "PC2-5300S-555-12-F0" : I found this page: https://www.laptop-sodimm.nl/product/2gb-2rx8-pc2-5300s-555-12-qimonda-hs08/ RAM stick has similar description: 2GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12-ZZ Qimonda Sodimm memory Under "Timings" it shows: Cas latency: 12 (The period between the request of a job and its processing.) So I think "555-12" on my RAM stick label stands for CAS latency: 12 . Is there any way to check if my Win7 Motherboard can support CAS latency 12? EDIT: Hi Rainy, I didn't see your post, you must have posted while I was typing. My XP system has 2 RAM slots. Yes, it's possible that my XP laptop supports 2GB RAM max, that is why I wanted to test with 3GB RAM first.
  12. Thanks TrevMUN, much appreciated. I looked inside and found out what is physically written on the RAM sticks: XP laptop: 1: 1 GB, 667 MHZ, DDR2-SODIMM, 200 PIN, 64x8, OPID#2851, 6/26/06 2: 1 G, DDR2, 667, SO-DIMM, CL5 Win7 laptop: 1: 1 GB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S-555-12-A3 2: 2 GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12-F0 I am not sure about this, but does this mean that both Win7 RAM sticks are capable of 555-12 Latency Timings? But only run at 555-15 Latency Timings because my Win7 Motherboard can only handle 555-15 Latency Timings?
  13. Hi guys, I know few things about RAM but I am not an expert, so I wanted to ask for your advice. I have 2GB RAM on my XP laptop and I want to upgrade it to 4GB RAM. My GPU is 512MB, so maybe XP x86 will detect only 3.5GB RAM or less, we will see when I upgrade to 4GB RAM. I have another Win7 laptop, which has few problems (broken cooling fan, no dedicated GPU) so I only use it for testing sometimes. My Win7 laptop has 3GB RAM, one stick of 1GB and one stick of 2GB. I was thinking to take out the 2GB RAM stick from my Win7 laptop and put it inside my XP laptop, and see how it performs for few weeks. If all goes well, later I can buy another 2GB RAM stick for a total of 4GB RAM. I made some screens to check if the RAM sticks are compatible. XP laptop: Win7 laptop: Is it safe to try and use the 2GB RAM stick from my Win7 laptop inside my XP laptop? I also have a question about Latency Timings, I am not sure if I understand them. From what I can see, the Latency Timings for my RAM sticks are: 5-5-5-15. Is this a correct way to describe my RAM sticks Latency Timings? Thanks for your time.
  14. Thanks nicolaasjan, I appreciate it.
  15. Thanks Mina.
  16. I blocked inline scripts in uBlock Origin extension and bitchute videos played, this worked in Chrome 49, it also worked in an older version of Serpent 52: If I don't use uBlock Origin for example, and I only use uMatrix or NoScript, is it possible to block these 'inline scripts' in uMatrix or NoScript? What is the equivalent of blocking inline scripts in uBlock Origin, if using only uMatrix or NoScript?
  17. Hi nicolaasjan, which version of DownThemAll! browser extension do you use? Download link please? At first I thought this was a program, but I guess it is a browser extension only.
  18. Is this the correct file? Download File name: WindowsXP-KB893357-v2-x86-ENU.exe File size: 1.18 MB (1.244.400 bytes) Digital Signatures Timestamp: 20.04.2005, 21:02:16 MD5: 8DC2C282DB8DC41FC68E84CD356A8BE9
  19. Hi Skorpios, which version of K-Meleon do you recommend for YouTube?
  20. Thanks Dave. And thanks to @ntfoxy for these programs.
  21. Hi guys, to debug this systrayutil.dll, can I do it from Command line? I tried this: debug "C:\WINDOWS\system32\systrayutil.dll" but it says: "File not found". I am probably doing it wrong.
  22. @kwisomialbert, @msfntor - Thanks guys.
  23. Yes, I regularly use heinoganda's cert updater, but I haven't tried deleting all certs and reinstalling them again. Have other users tried Humming Owl's 360Chrome 9.5.0.138 on SP2? @IXOYE, @msfntor
  24. I tested 360Chrome 9.5.0.138 on SP2, I tested your first release of 360Chrome 9.5.0.138, and your latest update of 360Chrome 9.5.0.138 from 25.09.21. In your first release I did the same changes as in v11 (edited only chrome.dll and chrome_child.dll), and in your latest update I didn't change anything, the results are same with both. When I open google.com and youtube.com it shows: The link to the site is not private The security certificate used by the visited website: Error or failure (NET::ERR_CERT_INVALID) There may be a security risk and it is recommended that the cause is identified before accessing. The URL you visited is: https://google.com/ Don't block this site anymore Ignore the warning and continue accessing I pressed "Ignore..." Loads youtube.com but all video images are blank When I try to open a video, it opens the video comments but the video can't start; so not good for YouTube on SP2. Works OK on https://msfn.org/board/forum/34-windows-xp/
