I think if we compare KernelEx ApiLog results it might help but it is good that you have it running. There is no altered file dates in the download except prefs.js, they seem to represent the original and this is why I don't understand the MEdll mod how is this file involved?
-
Yes I know thats what you did and I did the same but FantasyAcquiesce is asking something that your above post should answer. Is there any K823.ini settings?

@Schwups I tested as following instructions and FF35 still wants to load XPcom.dll. What I do not understand is the MEDLL.dll how is this involved? If NTDLL of another OS is placed in the Windows directory along with the correct Kernel32.dll it slows down system but still operational last time I checked. In WinME NTDLL is loaded first and it is solely directly linked to ME's Kernel32. NT based OS' s load the other way around Kernel32 first. What might be able to be done is to search for files altered in the time frame of when you got FF to work and see if other modes are necessary. If you just meant it did not need registering in FireFox then OK, I posted below to prevent any confusion. >>There is no need to register a dll file. It depends on whether the DLL is in the mapped paths. A Dll can only be registered if it contains function DllRegisterServer and is said then to be self registering. When installing, a program can write the necessary registry settings if the Dll does not self register. If the Dll is in the same folder as the program then the program does not need the registry to find it. If outside the set paths then it will not be found if not registered. In KernelEx folder/subfoldereds the the Dll has to be KnownDll registered for kernelEx to use it. Dlls are shared and icons need to be directed/selected that are within the Dll. They can do direct decoding all types of stuff and generally if it has DllRegisterServer then it should be registered. If within the Dependency Walker Dll tree there is NTDLL and NTDLL has all red Dependency Walker imports, no input functions compatible, then the DLL may still register but may not work. If there are some compatible imports (green) then the DLL will not register.

KernelEx Apps Compatibility List (New)

jre7u0.msi should install even on 4.5.2 but needs later KEX to run. Oracle needs you to have a business name when I created my account. Looks like this is no longer necessary but not sure about that. Oracle is the only place that should have them now as this is what Oracle wants. https://login.oracle.com/mysso/signon.jsp One of my posts here https://msfn.org/board/topic/178283-how-you-really-browse-the-web-on-98me-in-2019/?do=findComment&comment=1172377 but I am probably behind the times and other members may need to comment about it. I doubt whether the installers allow an older one back in unless some registry settings are removed. So a system restore or manual remove settings may be required. I have *\ JAVA*.EXE => DCFG1 and *\JVM.DLL => DCFG1 -
It is the single core performance of the CPU that matters as I have said look into CPU single core benches for comparison and choose from availability and performance. The 32 bit P111 will not use as much power but it may not be able to play high resolution videos for instance. Like you said prices are getting high for vintage parts, the best ones are hard to get or impossible to get. Read other posts here about compatible motherboards. Electronics needs to be kept below about 110 degrees Celsius in the silicon based transistors themselves otherwise permanent damage will occur over time. Burnout is faster at higher temps. If using air cooling expect to clean heatsinks every 6 months. If you put a fan at the bottom of a case intaking air and one on the other side at the top of the the case expelling air then there will be less stagnant air in the case and everything inside should be cooler. Bigger fans are best and often quieter 140mm should be ample for a full size case. I have posted this from page 2 & have just discovered page 3. I would have liked an Opteron 154 but could only get the 152 even that is hard to find now. Socket 478 were only single core. I had the MSFN tabs open in the browser but they needed to be refreshed.

Quadro Fx 1400 nearest equivalency is the GeForce 6800 which should not be a problem. I tried visiting GPUreview but all I get is a blank screen even on latest Chrome. This is strange as even IE6 should work I would think.

Registry changes occur after a normal successful shut down but not on a crash. If the setting like show full path in title bar was just done then it would be lost in the crash. Try just having full path in address bar just in-case there is a problem with the full path in the title bar when being accessed by another operation system as not all the old settings are compatible any more. The full path in the title bar may not be able to be reproduced on the modern operating system. Win10 is OK but make sure both the machine accessing via the the VCN has the same view settings as the 98 machine just in case.

I have fixed KernelEx settings so that RP9 is not impacted by doing a registry restore or I deleted KernelEx Apps and merged back original I am not sure. Either way should produce the same result. It was done as soon as the fault arised though and even then the theme had to be changed temporarily. The icon fault occurred after a KernelEx file setting change. Even at the time I was not sure what the file was, I was probably doing more than one manually as the KernelEx reg settings should not be merged over the top of an already in-place KernelEx Apps registry. If I find out I will say.

KernelEx Apps Compatibility List (New)
Goodmaneuver replied to xrayer's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
The known DLLs in the KernelEx folder will be the same as placing Msvcrt in the system folder and is unnecessary to place it in KernelEx folder as all of my programs have KernelEx involved except Kernel32.dll itself. I have explorer set to DCFG1 so every program loads KernelEx. KernelEx is hooked to Kernel32 so it is the first to load if a module which has a KernelEx mode setting or if following a mode setting of another module. KernelEx known DLLs act like the normal KnownDLLs and modules will load from the KernelEx folder instead of the system. The Known DLLs in KernelEx if there is no renaming is a convenient way to change system files instead of having to go off line. Your KernelEx updates are the same as mine except update Core.ini if you had not already. I know from your update to the website. I am not using KexStubs though. KernelEx Core Updates the MSFN Jumper Topic. https://msfn.org/board/topic/173233-kernelex-45-core-updates-45201617/?do=findComment&comment=1179474 Do not use Explorer as DCFG1 unless you have read above posts in KernelEx Core Updates. -
KernelEx Apps Compatibility List (New)

The crash can be looked at in fault log in Windows directory, it could be NvOpenGL.dll See my latest settings in KernelEx Core updates. For single files though that use BASE then BaseNoHeap can also be used. OpenGL.dll is set disabled *\NV*.dll is set as I said but can use BaseNoHeap make sure there is no clashes with different settings in KernelEx Apps registry. Do a search and remove all other NV..... settings as the *\NV*.dll is now doing the settings. Then reboot to try it. Can you please say exactly what you have done as your explanation is not clear. I do not know if you have updated system Msvcrt with BWC's MSVCRT or you have placed it in VLC folder or you have done the BWC's Dx9W2kFx.zip MSVCRT. -
Once the icons have changed it is difficult to return to the correct ones this includes the Start button icon. What should be done is to refresh the ShellIconCache and ttfCache by booting into Safe Mode every month. I have done experiments and deleting KernelEx Apps registry and merging one from a drive that has been playing up with the icons and guess what, the merged registry drive did the same thing. I suggest keep RP9 if you have it installed it as all important functioning still works. It is also important to back up the drive while all is well. K24 (the latest KernelEx) is fully compatible with RP9 for me I have several drives that have it running. K24 is the best as it should be remember to update Core.ini manually removing IsProcessorFeaturePresent. If you have a favorite build and RP9 can not be reinstated exactly as designer fully intended, then for a try, KernelEx Apps registry can be deleted then merged back a good one taken from another hard drive and most importantly do not interfere with the good copy. Make sure you have booted into safe mode prior to this on a previous boot and fully delete KernelEx Apps in the registry prior to merging back the good copy. Then you need to go to RP9 config and change themes.

ZaPbUzZ: Everyone will have differing experiences and you had different experience than me. DDR on P3 is not common but there are some, Iwill made it happen. ECS Elitegroup P6S5AT has both SDRAM & DDR but with the same controller there is virtually no difference between performance. I think one type or the other had to be chosen. MSI 6378 was modern compared to the OS. Boards were made with the ISA slot as an added option so no PCI slots were lost and it would only be useful if owning some ISA cards. I thought I was buying new as well but the Chinese supplier lied or was said to be like new. They were inferior to new for sure. The registered memory SDRAM 184 pin or 72 pin was usable even in P11 but sometimes it was not up to scratch to run especially 184 pin in my experience. I had better luck with P4 machines with this. Not all boards run single sided RAM it depends on how the RAM stick is wired that is chips on one side but wired to both would be considered double sided RAM. If the RAM chips are missing, not soldered on one side of the stick then this is single sided. You must have a moderner board than the average P3, is it a dual processor board? 5.1 surround audio card will you share this model that has 98/ME drivers? I found this an information boost https://www.oempcworld.com/support/singlevsdualram.html

KernelEx Apps Compatibility List (New)

>>I asked for a link and a legal way to get access to this file. Yes sorry about that sometimes I do not read whats actually written. Also my router needed powering down MSFN was inaccessible until now. WinWorldPC but there are some old final editions there, but without a valid licence key then it would be OK. Google then select library. I have used 40607.52 but no good unless you go to a lot of trouble and then even had to link directly to FFmpeg files to work, see other posts. There might be few versions in between that I have not found but you can not use any newer version than 40209 due to missing functions. 40209 is essentially the same as 31113. The 40607.16 I will have to investigate but sounds like it will be similar to 40607.52 but will have to see. The earlier ones have their own _getdrives internally. BetaArchive has probably got a wide selection, I am not a member, I tried but did not get email so I did not pursue it any further. -
KernelEx Apps Compatibility List (New)

Make sure you follow my instructions though, needs function call redirection. It must have no function call errors test in Dependency Walker as it gets loaded very early and needs to be safe mode friendly. NtClose does not work in KernelEx last time I checked, K23. The Msvcr80 ones are direct system replacements. Because not all plugins in VLC3 work it is best to have 2.05 installed as well because sometimes VLC3 does not start but if you start VLC2 first then exit it then VLC3 will start. BWC's DX wrapper does not work in VLC folder last time I checked and is unnecessary anyway. Sometimes the only difference with later BWC's modules and earlier ones is that the later ones have been signed. -

FantasyAcquiesce: My ideas of an upgrade to Msvcrt https://msfn.org/board/topic/173233-kernelex-45-core-updates-45201617/?do=findComment&comment=1171794 you might be the first to confirm it. The wrapper should only be used when required not suitable system swap but the others are. I like Msvcr80 31113 the best. It is strange no-one has said anything this is not a serious old OS help site I am thinking. Deomsh has commented and I replied one page back. KernelEx does not do its wrap if the function is found in the Msvcrt. -
Browsing the web on 98/ME in 2019 and beyond
Goodmaneuver replied to Destro's topic in Windows 9x/ME
@Bruninho: I found that IE6 works real fast on your website, error though but if I turned off DDE it would probably work like Maxthon. @Schwups: Well done. The Rtl in Ntdll are stubs, KernelEx might be able to sort this out. The only thing I do not understand is XUL does not call any NTDLL implicit functions. I tried ImportPatcher on the XUL of 24esr8 no Ntdll. -

looking for ATI XPERT 128 GL PCI bios/rom for PC
Goodmaneuver replied to supernova777's topic in Windows 9x/ME
If the card shows boot screen on the IBM compatible and nearly works, I do not think it would have special flash for MAC. Have you tried them on a newer/different machine. If your Pentium 75 machine does the same thing with both cards it still could be the machine. Some drivers drivers do not work properly and I think from memory it is the one that came with WinME that only works but this might have been for a different earlier card. If using 6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314, latest ATI driver, then ATI2CQAG.DL_ has to be replaced with an earlier driver file for all cards. Replacement ATI2CQAG.DL_ is from driver 4.15.1.9163 17/08/2005. ( Day/Month/Year ) If this file is not back dated then the performance will be as you experience. I tried my Rage 128 same as your picture in current machine and the machine pipped through the system board speaker but had no video output. It has been a good card and probably still is in the right machine. -
You could try FreeVoice 1.2, free ware, uses MSAGENT as sound reader. Win98 MsAgent files should not be updated though as they do not work. I am using WinME but should be same with 98. The MS Agent files are dated 15/09/98 some are 08/06/2000 which is still WinME files close to release date. All you do is right click copy text then get the Agent to read clip board.

You can do this too and have the nostalgia of 95 but employ some 98 files see here https://msfn.org/board/topic/175486-wpa2-for-windows-9x/?do=findComment&comment=1161913

I believe that the assigning in most modern Windows of some files to use SSE2 and some to not use SSE/2 is fine tuning and we should take note of this. Msasn1 has SSE2 where as Msls31 has not. Msasn1 can be made compatible with BWC's wrapper and BASE & see here https://msfn.org/board/topic/173233-kernelex-45-core-updates-45201617/?do=findComment&comment=1171794

Browsing the web on 98/ME in 2019 and beyond
Goodmaneuver replied to Destro's topic in Windows 9x/ME
The instance about www.y8.com reported 5 posts up was not the UA and is something to look into. The User Agent of about FireFox 20 range is unusable with CometBird 9 it almost stalls with downloading many web pages (incompatible) but about FireFox 31 UA is good. I have updated the grepreff to fix the rsa_seed_sha to true and made UA Vista FireFox 34 as it is a bit better. No good for MSN as before though, it is very fast and shows page properly but to browse MSN easily original UA should be used or as explained before or use Opera12. -
Running Windows 98 in 2020 and beyond...

>>not for the web browsing on Win 9x (but it could be used there, with other relevant applications for this topic)... Retrozilla is OK with the TLS update but IE5 with a User Agent perhaps. I made a mistake posting this really. -
Just a few points. NTFS cheats and is slower than FAT32. NTFS has ownership rights which are a pain and dangerous when employed to the registry. There is a post I said about Far Cry 1 working which can be still attempted which would be good and has got something to do with disc security or CryTek did not want it to work on 98/ME. (Some other games also claim to be 98/ME compatible but do not work, have I got a system disc protection check problem, I do not know). It is the modern Windows OS's loss that they check the FAT32 drives every boot. NTFS cheats in normal operation as well. I do not like every progression made in Windows for personal home use of which many of us use it for. FILE64 has my vote. FAT32 has hangovers from FAT16 and FAT12 and it would have been nice to have 30 bit file access but we have RLoew's FILE64.
