  1. Wine is for Linex isn't it? I use WinME on a real machine. I quote this from https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/SVG/Tutorial/SVG_fonts "SVG Fonts are currently supported only in Safari and Android Browser. Internet Explorer hasn't considered implementing this, the functionality has been removed from Chrome 38 (and Opera 25) and Firefox has postponed its implementation indefinitely to concentrate on WOFF. Other tools however like the Adobe SVG Viewer plugin, Batik and parts of Inkscape support SVG font embedding."
  2. >>but with a few adaptations, they work on Mozilla browsers too >>It worked on 3.6, at least. Mozilla has a select button font problem (or I have not the fonts used installed) but disabling downloadable fonts did not work. Perhaps the TLS 1.0 could not talk to the server to download the fonts with FF 3.6? Can you show the improvement, explain the improvement or name the web site that the fonts worked.
  3. If the CPU is 32 bit x86, AMD seems a good choice back in the day as WinME is 16 bit and at that time AMD seemed to be the one it was tuned for. With progressive Windows operating systems they seemed to cycle between favoring Intel and AMD. Most processors are 64 bit, x64 and your Pentium 4 will be. Just look them up in CPUworld.com. It will not matter which one you choose because of the 64 bit processor technology and only a single core will be used. The exception I have quoted PhotoWorxx only works with Intel processors and it is the single core CPU frequency that has the most effect. But look up the bench comparisons on CPUworld. I do not recommend Geforce 6200 but if you intend to use the PCI bus then 6200 is about the best that drivers are available for. I think the graphics manufacturers were promoting the PCIEX bus. Later on, the best PCI graphics card that I encountered was a HD5450 2048MB. If you intend to use AGP then I would read this https://msfn.org/board/topic/175188-ati-widescreen-support-for-win9x/?do=findComment&comment=1157246 I can not make up your mind what to do, it is your choice.
  4. Mozilla has not got the WebFonts problem. I is not the fonts. All that is required in Opera is to turn off WebFonts in [ Opera:config | User Pref | Enable WebFonts ] untick the Enable WebFonts.
  5. Your processor and board will be acceptable if you only just use the games up to 2004. The thing is though the very old games may require an older setup. PCI-X you should look on the WWW for info it is not PCI Express which I think should have been named differently to stop any confusion. A 64 bit operating system will test out your processor and will not install if it has been damaged. The reason to put Vista or similar on and test the board is you need to know what is wrong with it and that is one of the quickest ways of finding out before starting with a ME/98 install. If XP works good and you have tested the games with that installation, ExtremeG2 will not work but other games, then that might be good enough test. Even with ISA video and 256 bit color not all my boards work. Remember though bus speed is not a standard and there are exceptions in that a BIOS updated MS-6378 had a slower speed than any other I encountered it also can have an ISA slot which may be handy for the very old games. An ATI video card is better for ExtremeG2 for example. The sound card I found may not matter that much as ME/98 has the Roland driver. I have just tried an early game but once setup I do not know which one now. It had a selection for Roland Sound Canvas and it worked. The on-board sound will be OK it will be Sound Blaster backwards compatible and the SB-100 would be good if it works. I have several SB-Live cards that do not work on XP they are faulty or incorrect drivers were given. Have you many 3 1/2 " floppy games or 5 1/4" otherwise downloading games now some have been manipulated for modern machines. I would rather put anti-aliasing up to 8 times with the original old games. I am not that experienced but a 5 1/4" floppy drive and a 486 machine with ISA graphics and sound might have better success. Only thing is the old BIOS if doing a floppy drive seek would erase the disc if it was left in the drive. I have all this set up but have not used it. I will have to one day.
  6. Roytam1 has done a great job with the cipher and TLS2 updates. There are some things open for debate still as to what stops the later browsers from operating with differing ideas we do not all agree on. Negative feedback is what is implied though if joking about KernelEx on 3.11, for me anyway. You have done good testing and your comments have been genuine. MSFN is an information source that is much appreciated, I doubt whether you have got in the way anymore than I have. There is some advantage for those who have started earlier with the KernelEx project in that they would be more knowledgeable about it. Do not be perturbed by my last post.
  7. To use Kexstubs already catered for function redirects or stubs need to be known in case of duplicates. Is there any easy way of finding out this. Like I was not sure of the 4 Kernel functions listed above. The gdi32 ones I would like to try to redirect to GdiPlus functions. Like GetFontFamily for example.
  8. The ISA, EISA and PCI clock speeds have been progressively increasing since conception till about the end of the Pentium 3 era but PCI-X 64 bit is twice as fast especially with dual processor boards. It means that add on cards have to be very good and the best ATI chips were put into the All In Wonder graphic cards. I may not be helpful much except your board is a good all rounder but I personally would remove the sound card at first and try the on-board sound. Also make sure everything works on Vista 32 bit for example. If you have a known good video card for testing, this is the best idea. Test game for nVidia is ExtremeG2 or Trackmania Nations Forever. Nations Forever should work with your card as I have used MX similar card myself. Most cards may not work properly.
  9. Not funny, disrespectful. No more criticizing 98/ME or KernelEX please. MSFN has less active ME/98 member support than 2K we do not need knockers.
  10. >>Lastly, where do I obtain the QUARTZ.DLL 6.5.1.907? Only place I find it mentioned is problemchyld's unofficial 98SE service pack Yes the service pack has it or the one I gave here https://msfn.org/board/topic/153566-windows-98-as-high-quality-video-player/?do=findComment&comment=1173681 The link a direct download from Microsoft still working I just checked. It is direct download http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/WindowsME.Windows98SE-KB904706-DX9-x86-ENU_3120a22628e0848051a2449a878677f.exe I can not find it in the SP either now yet I found it yesterday, it was in unofficial Direct X update I think.
  11. >>I also tried to mess around with stubs. I analyzed the application with ImportPatcher, then just added whatever functions appeared to be missing to the Kstub822 file. The result was MPC-HC causing an error and closing immediately Make sure there are no duplicates that are already catered for in KernelEx already.
  12. Fair enough but in a general sense for other players too. If you look you should find. I am sure the prereleases are fine to test/extract although Vista is no longer supported and they are a bit useless as installers are tuned to only use final releases. It makes use of these binaries in which someone has used their valuable time creating. EDIT > I did ask why my very early post web link was removed and it was not because of prerelease material. What would make using final release binaries back in older OS more legal than using a prerelease? They both were distributed and prereleases were free.
  13. If there is hardware card not toggling properly can cause this too. My machine if overclocked too much does this. My machine/video card is getting better though.
  14. I am happy with the choices I still have with WinME but if necessary I do have to go to Win10.
  15. Quartz of later versions is OK but needs BASE to register/work. My mistake. I had Quartz 6.5.1.907 KEX disabled. I have tested Quartz from LH 5048 and OK DelayLoadFailureHook=>SetLastError. See also https://msfn.org/board/topic/153566-windows-98-as-high-quality-video-player/?do=findComment&comment=1179890
  16. >>I have no opinion using MSVCR80.DLL as a MSVCRT-substitute. Do not overlook this version 8.0.31113.25 distributed in Framework v2.0.31113 available in LongHorn 4047. Members should look into my findings and report back for other members or they are not serious about 98/ME. Using KnownDlls is the same as renaming the file, the registry is loaded very early.
  17. Accessing XP remotely though does not count as working with 98/ME operating system although I understand now that you access Win98 from within the VM. It also says something about VMs compared to a real machine.
  18. Intel core duo can bench higher with PhotoWorxx - much higher. Also Opera 12.02 seems to be faster. AMD dual core does not bench with PhotpWorxx any higher than single core AMD. 1994 - 2004 is a wide range of gaming and I recommend having too separate machines for this because an ATI Rage graphics card is best for old games while a Geforce > 7300 is best for newer games and besides CPU slow down software may not be desirable. I just tried to get some used motherboards from eBay and all failed with some hardware faults. So obtaining good hardware is the challenge and the motherboards have to work 100%.
  19. KMP using EVR uses EVR.dll & Dxva2.dll when selecting Enhanced Video Render +3D Texture + Bicubic and does transform to different aspect ratios. EVR.dll needs BASE. I said I can use more KEX modes with KMP but not entirely true, only 2K minimum, the options preferences crash with lower settings in my case. Quartz from LH5231 is linked to Dxva2, D3d9 as well as Ddraw so if ideas of above post are employed and DelayLoadFailureHook import is directed to SetLastError then it will work must not be set KEX disabled but use BASE, do not forget to register. This version might be the better one to choose for 98/ME as later versions did not include Dxva2 or D3d9. Using Quartz 5231 results in the bit rate across the video having less affect on CPU usage. x265 tested at 1120 x 630 with plenty in reserve 720p OK @ 2.9GHz.
  20. Even VLC web site warned against using Msvcr71 as a system file. If KEX setting of Win98 is to be used then you should do as Jumper described in the Core.ini. "Add experimental mode to Core.ini that inherits from NT or XP and specifies anything you want from the other."
  21. >>Quartz is not a renderer, my understanding is that it just loads the file and pass it to an appropriate splitter. Quartz.dll 6.3 versions work but are an earlier release than 6.5.1.907, I did my tests a while ago and later XP versions did not do everything they were supposed to do. Look into advanced filter info. Mine is 6.5.1 but not as recent as 914. Where can 6.5.1.914 be obtained, 6.5.1.907 is still downloadable and specifically for 98/ME. The Video Mixing Renderer7 (Windowed) is the rendering output I have chosen in KMP for this post.
  22. >>no registry setting is going to change that. I was referring to CometBird 9 or FireFox 9. There is a narrow blue line above your post Loblo viewed in IPS -theme. No gone now. If you go straight to the web address it is easier on the browser than going through Google. cc333, MSFN forum is an easy site to load what other sites work, have you had any stalling? The proper install of the Service Pack seems to be the way to go, but with ME changing to a different machine; it would not happen.
  23. It requires KEX setting of XP like I said here https://msfn.org/board/topic/153566-windows-98-as-high-quality-video-player/?do=findComment&comment=1179316 and my next post. The heart of a player is its codecs and 70.2-16 from LAV is the latest one to work, the rendering is also important Quartz of 6.5 does not work with 98/ME it does not render. Do not use Msvcr70 as Msvcrt as it has missing functions and stopped Divx player and other programs. Some members are resistant to try Msvcr80 version 8.0.31113.25 as Msvcrt. No programs fail you won't be regretful.
  24. Its not KernelEx that has a problem. It would be registry settings IMO and I do not think that having original installation of 98 as a test is going to work as you have trouble. In about 2012 I grabbed an old drive having ME installed and KEX 4.5.1 or I installed 4.5.1. I started with Opera and installed Wyzo - Mozilla 3.6.4. Opera speed up after installing Mozilla. I was using a Duron 1800 VIA Mercury board. Then I steadily upped the versions of FireFox in the interim I must have installed KEX4.5.2. If stalling exit and then reboot but best to exit when browsing full page download success and then reboot to lock in setting changes in registry and the browser profile. I found CometBird and switched to that. Originally 9 would stall but if exiting before stall happened as per previous sentence that got it to work. ThunderBird 11 looked as though it was going to work but if too many downloads at once or under certain page rendering it would stall. I used ThunderBird 9 until TLS 1.0 could not talk to some servers. I then used Opera 12.02 for an email client.
  25. I found when trying to edit post with CometBird 9 here MSFN, uploaded images appear but the text does not show - IPS Theme.
