AVG Antivir 7.5 complains about roxio in media player
erpdude8 replied to mikesw's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
Download Roxio's updated CDR4 driver here: http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/mserr/cdr4_7.html Install this on your Win2000 or WinXP system and reboot. You should be able to install AVG after updating the Roxio CDR4 driver [cdr4_2k.sys under W2K, cdr4_xp.sys under WinXP]. -
indeed that there is no official way to uninstall KB905474 but you can scrub the WGAN files off your XP computer by using the latest version of xp-antispy.

absolutely impossible, even with KernelEx installed on 98se: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-95-98-me...used-win98.html http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7810_102-0.htm...ssageID=2305963 http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/ie...7/Win98-and-IE7 IE7/IE8 depend on XP/Vista specific system DLL files & registry entries. IE7 & higher (even when forced installed on 98se PC) will permanently cripple your 98se computer and you'll have to reinstall 98se from scratch to undo the mess. IE7 on Win9x, NOT worth it! I did test KernelEx 4.0 RC 2 with FF 3.1b3 and SM 2.0a3, both worked great on an old Win98se computer.

Service pack for Windows 98 Standard (First, Gold)
erpdude8 replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Version 2.54 of Unofficial Win98 FE SP posted. (links no longer available) Changes: -replaced DirectX 7.0a package with DirectX 8.1b package in the full edition -removed dsound.dll Q269604 fix for DirectX 7.0a -added quartz.dll Q904706 security fix for DirectX 8.1b -updated DSTUPD.INF file containing TZ reg info from KB955839 -added ANSI editions of the AT70.DLL & AT71.DLL files which are Win9x compatible -removed cabinet.dll file from the sp2.cab file; previous versions of this SP contained the file but never installed it -updated hhctrl.ocx file to version 5.20.3790.4110 - from WinXP SP3 -updated cimwin32.dll file to version 1.50.0085.0059 - from Q289514 -added MSVCP70.DLL file -updated Windows Script [WSH/MSE] 5.7 to build 16535 from KB955360 This release now deletes older 98FE SP QFECheck registry entries from previous versions of the 98fe SP when installing over a previous version. -
that's just one of the addons not included in the lite edition of the SP [it has DirectX 8.0a]. another difference is the version of Windows Media Player included. The full version has WMP 6.4 while the lite version has WMP 6.0 (or is it WMP 5.2?) which does not depend on certain IE files. also the full version installs Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.5 SP3; some third party apps depend on some of the files from MDAC

Or better yet, go here: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

this is probably the best usb flash driver available for Win95 versions B and C as I've tested on my cousin's Win95 SR2.5 computer and a Sony MicroVault 4Gb USB Flash drive.
-
hmm, that's strange. what web browser were you using when Youtube asked you to obtain the new flash player, Offler? also, check if you have a "flash blocker" installed and enabled. if the flash blocker is on, turn it off and reload the Youtube site. YouTube should still work with at least Flash Player 7 as noted here.

[Edited for inappropriate language.] I have the version with 4 CDs you must be using Office 2000 Premium Edition, didadocom, which uses 4 CDs (that's the same edition I'm using except I only have CD1 and not the other CDs) The Small Business and Professional editions of O2K use just 2 CDs. I may try slipstreaming my Office 2k premium with the SP3 pack with that Office Slipstreamer tool. ====== Post Nº 2 ====== Totally agree with handyjap. Making an "administrative" install point of Office 2k by running SETUP.EXE /A in the beginning creates unnecessary files and folders (especially the Program Files folder) that WILL mess up the slipstream process when duing the "actual" slipstream later on (and the merged or sliptstreamed data1.msi or data2.msi files may reference those files stored on folders with long names when doing the actual Office 2000 setup; not good). Running SETUP.EXE /A may NOT accept the SHORTFILENAMES=1 or SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE parameter, a crucial part in using short names for files and folders. So I recently did it using handyjap's method of slipstreaming Office 2k SP3 and it worked great. Doing the O2K slipstream with the Office Slipstreamer tool didn't work as I ended up with a messy slipstream.

Office 2000/XP/2003/2007 Slipstreamer - version 1.7.4
erpdude8 replied to mara-'s topic in Microsoft Office
Since I don't have any original copy of Office2k, support for it is very low. But I can still try to help you. Where do you get prompt for CD key, from the Slipstreamer, or from Office 2000 setup? If from setup, then you need to enter it, since slipstreaming to Office 2k requires creation of administrative install, before slipstream. Cheers uh, I do! I have original Office 2000 CD if any of you Office 2k users are using Office 2000 Premium edition. I'll test out the latest available version of Office Slipstreamer with my Office 2k Premium CD since Office Integrator won't support Office 2000 and never will. unlike Nexus_06's edition of O2k, mine does ask for product key during setup AND is a retail version. could be the way the data.msi file is constructed. I can provide you with a list of Office 2000 updates, Nexus_06. email me or send me PM. ====== Post Nº 2 ====== I no longer agree with that statement. try doing the slipstream of Office 2000 using handyjap's way: quote from the old Office 2000 Slipstreaming thread- Doing the O2k slipstream with Office Slipstreamer didn't quite work the way I want it as Office 2000 setup asks for certain files from the Program Files folder instead of the Pfiles folder when I ran O2k setup. Doing it handyjap's way was far better. -
confirmed. Report the problem to MDGx immediately so that he can include riched20.dll v5.3 instead.

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
to what version of the mplayer2.exe file should I put in my WMP9 URP packs, PROBLEMCHYLD? too late. it will probably not make it since I've just released them. Wait for a future release several months from now. Unofficial WMP9 URP packs [February 2009 release]: http://www.usaupload.net/d/n26bfp38h94 -
Looks like the WSH 5.7 packages Microsoft released back in late August 2007 now have expired & broken digital signatures. That would explain why MS made the KB955360 hotfixes to resolve the problems. Took MS a while to recognize and fix the problems with their original WSH 5.7 packages by making hotfixes for them in late August 2008.

The complete list of hotfixes & updates for Windows 98se
erpdude8 replied to soporific's topic in Windows 9x/ME
They are the same!! q242937 is actually q269601 q242937 is the kb article number, whereas q269601 is what the update is named as when you install it. It's confusing, I know. That's why q242937 is in brackets at the end of the description for q269601 NO THEY ARE NOT, soporific! Q269601 supersedes/replaces Q242937. wdmaud.sys file in Q269601 is v4.10.2226 while Q242937 has wdmaud.sys v4.10.2225. Also Q269601 contains 7 updated files, while Q242937 contains 4 updated files. Compare the two Q242937 & Q269601 patches here. Q269601 no longer has a KB article associated to it [MS has been pulling a bunch of Win98/ME hotfix KB articles off their support site but some of those Win9x/ME hotfixes with now non-existent KB articles are still available]. You can now add Q216204 to the list (I recently emailed MS for that one and got it). KB article for this is still there but no longer mentions the updated files. Q216204 contains SYSDM.CPL v4.10.1999 for win98fe and v4.10.2223 for win98se. -
I think you mean, MRMPFPP_EN, Roy. I'd been doing some google & yahoo searches on these XP MCE labels; here's what I think: MRMPOEM_EN seems to be CD1 of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 [OEM] MRMPFPP_EN seems to be CD1 of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 [Retail - Full] both of those CDs with either of those labels contain WinXP Pro. NR1PFRE_EN < this one comes in 2 CDs, not one. Those two cds seem to contain the whole Windows XP MCE 2005 OS [XP Pro + Media Center features]. Microsoft couldn't fit the whole XP MCE on one CD, so they had to use two. Don't really care about what "FRE" means. Seems to be an odd way for MS to name the CD label for XP MCE.

exFAT is now possible under WinXP SP2/SP3 with the newly released KB955704 update. (yay!)

Microsoft Java Virtual Machine Build 5.00.3812
erpdude8 replied to Ascii2's topic in Software Hangout
I agree with Glenn9999 with MS JavaVM being "inferior". And MS now mentions about a newer MSJVM build 3185 here: http://blogs.msdn.com/nzdst/archive/2007/1...15-release.aspx But anyway, Ascii2 should forget about obtaining either MSJVM build 3812 or 3815 as he'll have to pay MS $4k for a custom support contract to get either one as they're not available from MS's hotfix servers. Price info that he was referring to was mentioned here. Better off using the latest Sun Microsystems Java software which are far more reliable and more stable (and more up to date). -

If you have any questions, comments, problems with the OSR2 SP, send me PM (personal message) or email. EDIT: Version 1.05 is the very last release of the 1.0x series of the SP since this SP project is now EOL/EOS (end-of-life / end-of-support) as of December 31, 2014. No more new releases of this unofficial service pack will be made from this point on. -erpdude

in that case, Philco needs to move on and forget about what he was asking earlier. I too can't seem to figure out what he really wants from either the modified WinME Regedit file or the original czech language WinME Regedit file he was using on his machine.

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
sure thing, PROBLEMCHYLD, when I post up the January 2009 releases of the unofficial WMP9 URP packs sometime in middle or late January 2009. Uh make that early February 2009, PROBLEMCHYLD. I recently lost the SED files for creating the WMP9 URP packs when upgrading my room PC from XP SP3 Home Ed. to XP SP3 Pro Ed. I'll have to re-create them later this month since I'm very busy right now. Finished making the updated unofficial Windows Media Player 9 Update Rollup Packs of Feb. 2009. I'll send them to MDGx near the end of this week along with a clean version of the WinME Q296773 vmm.vxd hotfix [the Q296773 patch that I found packaged in a Dell OS update pack a few years ago has some invalid digital signatures and may possibly be corrupted] as well as the Q216204 sysdm.cpl hotfix for Win98 FE/SE. -
Indeed, and the version in the Service Pack is 2224. That's why I wondered what had happened to 2223! Thanks for the information. I only have 20GB of space left on my C: drive where the swapfile is set to be located, so am not troubled by the negative value bug if it's still there. I will stick with version 2222. Thanks all! Ok Dave-H. I found your "missing" 4.10.2223 SYSDM.CPL file. Packaged in the Win98 Q216204 hotfix. Even though MS KB article 216204 does not mention the updated versions of the sysdm.cpl file for both Win98 FE (4.10.1999) and Win98 SE (4.10.2223), MS has a hotfix patch for it as I emailed and received it from MS. sorry, el_coco. Gape is doing the 98se SP 3.0 only in English. Perhaps there might be someone else out there who can do a full translation of the 98se SP 3.0 beta and the 98se SP 2.1a version in Spanish.

all right. I'm now dead wrong on Q296773. I've just emailed MS for this and they sent me the hotfix with the "correct" digital signatures on the EXE package. File size of the patch should be 316224 bytes, not 316416 bytes like the one packaged in some Dell OS update package. So it IS still available. So MDGx, if you are reading this latest post of mine, I will send you the Q296773 WinME hotfix that has the valid digital signatures in it.
