  1. Hehe... those Japanese always have dirty minds... Just look at the excessive cleavage in any japanese fighting game... I voted Monster movie pr0n.
  2. Hey there, Thanks for the replies. I'll look into some of the boot managers listed. I'm wondering about the second thing on my wishlist. Is there any way of hiding the partition for XP while I'm installing 2K3? Are any of these boot managers capable of setting up OS partition "groups"? i.e. When an OS is loaded, this group of partitions are visible. Thanks again for the help.
  3. Hey everyone, Don't know if this is in the right place... please move it if it isn't. I've got a quick question about dual booting. I've done some searching, but nothing's come up with what I'm looking for. I've got the trial version of Win2K3 and my copy of XP Pro. I'd like to set up my system so that when I choose my OS (either by the default boot.ini method or a boot loader) it loads into that OS and has the OS installation partition set as C:\ and the other system's partition is hidden. What would be the best way of going about this? Are there any good boot managers that will allow me to do this easily? I've tried installing XP first and then 2K3, but then the partitions don't show up as I'd like them... The reason I'd like to do this is because I'm thinking of setting up my system as a server (either with Win2K or Win2K3...) but also being able to play games in XP. When I install games in XP after the above mentioned, they try to put themselves on the wrong partition... Thanks for any help!
  4. I said 17+. While Microsoft definately got a better start with 2003-SP1, than XP did, there are still going to be small updates every now and then for issues that come up. SP1 (for 2003) added quite a few updates in itself, so we might not see any patches for a while... but they'll be around. You gotta remember, Windows is the biggest target for anyone trying to make an impact (albeit malicious).
  5. What's the problem exactly? When you have hard drive access your CPU usage goes to 100%? If so, then that shouldn't be happening...check to see how the drives are being accessed. Look in Device Manager at the IDE Channels. They should be listed as using DMA if available.
  6. How is the CPU usage on G3 and Rufus? I've heard that Python-based programs are pretty CPU-intensive.
  7. Umm... this is getting a bit heated. Take a valium, and remember, we all can have different opinions. Disagreement doesn't have to be violent or rude. Again, I'll say that for a pure gaming console (which is what this poll was about) the PS2 takes the prize. The games are generally better on PS2 than on XBox (by better I mean there's a better selection). The only area that you could say XBox has a hold of the market is in FPS games, but you shouldn't be playing those on a console anyways... For example, DOA2 (on PS2) was much better than DOA3 (on XBox). The controls for DOA2 just fit right, while I was fighting against my own thumbs to get the characters in DOA3 to do what I wanted. The graphics themselves in DOA2 are hard to beat. If you're niggling that they're not good enough, then VR is probably the only thing that would satisfy you. As for racing games, I like them a lot. I've always grown up watching Formula1 and the WRC, so when games like GT3 and GT4 are released, I get excited. I find it much more useful to know how to drive a car agressively than to be able to blow someone's virtual head off. In game driving can easily be transferred to the real world, while aiming and shooting cannot (trust me... try hitting a target at 200 yards with an SKS-47, the semi-auto version of the AK-47).
  8. PS3. Microsoft is (and has with the original XBox) going cheap. Throw together a basic computer and give it a minimal OS and call it a console. Sony actually takes the time to develop their products. Oh... and PS3 looks way nicer too...
  9. Winamp Changelog
  10. I've got WindowBlinds... it's a very nice app. I'll post an update of my laptop tonight... It looks very pretty with only 16 processes running (including AV and firewall).
  11. Yes and no. Yes in that (as some others have said) it gives me a chance to test out the program. Some trial versions that companies release are feature-locked so that you can't gain access to everything. With a pirated copy, you can use the whole program in full. BUT If I find that I actually have a use for the program, I buy it. I've got a fully licenced copy of XP Pro on my computer because I make use of the extra features that it has over Home. Same goes for other software. I've also downloaded the original Star Wars trilogy so I can watch it on my laptop on the road, but I own the widescreen DVD box set as well... so I don't think that there's anything wrong with this. I could have ripped the DVDs myself, but it's easier for me to download the movies. In the end, not paying for something that you use is wrong.
  12. Nope! Never have, never will, and I try to get everyone I see (literally) to stop. Umm.... this is probably the biggest load of crap I've ever heard... trying to ban cooked food? Have a look at any proper nutrition book and they'll tell you that cooking food is the first step in digestion. Human beings have evolved to become omnivores (eat meat and plants) and the only way for us to properly digest the proteins in meat is by cooking them. As for the "health risks" with cooked food and your comparison with cigarettes: Cigarettes have about 2000 known chemicals other than just tobacco in them. Cooked food does not. I could add another few paragraphs to this if you'd like. Well said! Take a look at what happened to the forests in British Columbia in the past two years. We've had 2 summers with horrendous forest fires caused by... you guessed it... cigarettes. The biggest fire last year was caused by a firefighter of all people. A FIREFIGHTER!!! Over one million acres of good lumber went up in smoke because of cigarettes and the irresponsible people who throw them out of their truck window. Also, if you look at the city where I live (Vancouver, Canada) you'll rarely see coffee cups and bottles laying on the ground, but you do see quite a few butts lying on the sidewalks and on the roads. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As for the comment about the age at which people die because of car accidents and smoking - Tell that to one of my old classmates who developed emphysema at age 15 and got lung cancer at 17 (she passed away in her last year of high school). And yes, I miss her very much. Aside from the smoking she was a very nice person. She knew the dangers of it as well, but she didn't have the willpower to stop when things started to go downhill. Don't make the same mistake as she did. There is no reason to smoke. The whole argument about it "relieving stress" comes from the fact that when you are under stress, the nicotine levels in your bloodstream drop, making you have a craving. When you go for the cigarette, it brings those levels back up and makes you "feel better". It's the worst possible excuse I know for smokers. Other than that, there is no reason! Just to give a bit more background to my views on this matter - I'm working at a cancer research centre. I'm working on a project that will allow doctors to view the cells inside a person's lungs while they're on the operating table. This means that diagnoses will come a lot quicker and therefore more lives will be saved. I HATE the fact that this technology will be used on people who purposefully damage themselves and need my time, sweat, and blood to save their lives. It's downright unfair. I like the job though, since it will help to save those people who are the unfortunate targets of natrual selection, and it's giving me good work experience.
  13. I voted HP 40GB mp3/wma, cus it's the closest thing to what I'm waiting to get this summer... the NeurosII.
  14. I voted for the "Work Less" party here in Vancouver, Canada... The Sex Party was another of my options, after the Marijuana Party. (Seriously... they're registered parties in British Columbia...)
  15. Hi there, I don't think that these settings are actually set in the registry. As far as I know, they're hard coded into explorer.exe. If you want to go digging hard enough, you can open up explorer.exe in ResHacker and look at the Accelerator Table. I'm not sure what values will give you what though... Oh, and welcome!
  16. @vercetti_1765 What are you using for the sidebars? Are they just standard toolbars with large icons? @harunaksoy Gotta love RoyalFour!
  17. I've never heard of anything like that either... Hibernation was meant to be used to act as an alternative to shutting down the computer... sorry...
  18. I think what Bledd meant to say is that you can still get spyware and crap on your system even if you use Firefox. Just because you aren't using IE doesn't give you a fail-safe against malware. Firefox is being targeted more and more now that it's increasing in popularity. Don't kid yourself...

You forgot to add Blackberry to the list... they've got some good things going.
  21. Isn't this line of thinking somewhat backwards? Wouldn't it be easier to find a security flaw in software if you had the source code in front of you? Yeah, sure, everyone can fix the open-source code, but then you have to release your fixes to the public under GPL... at least with a small group of people, they know exactly what's going on left, right, and centre.
  22. NO! Windows firewall doesn't really cut it compared to the name brands. It only monitors incoming connections, but not outbound. That means that if you have a nasty on your computer that's sending crap out to the internet, you'd have no idea. With something like Sygate or Kerio, you'd know what was up. Sygate is still #1 for me...
  23. Hey there, AveDesk is another great choice. Very easy on resources and has the drive space right on the drive icon on your desktop. Have a look through the desktop screenshots section for a few of my screenies and you'll have an idea of what's available. The SysStats addon is also capable of reading drive space and displaying it in ways to your liking. Cheers!
  24. I'm not entirely sure, but from what I picked up from skimming over this post, you're talking about avoiding Windows Activation. If so, then you're breaking forum rules, since avoiding Windows Activation is illegal. You're not going to get any help here...
