  1. Maybe the BIOS version is too old or a wrong cpu micro code.
  2. 1GB! Did you edit the system.ini on 98SE? Add [vcache] MaxFileCache=393216 This value is required to install 98SE. You can reduce or increase it up to 524288. If you are using more than 1GB you have to limit the RAM: You also add to [386Enh]: MaxPhysPage=48000 Important "Stickified" [Pinned] 95/98/98 SE/ME Topics => Run 9x/ME with > 1 GB RAM
  3. There is an unofficial driver for ICH 10 chipsets on http://windows98.xf.cz. You also could read here "Slipstreamable" Intel Chipset INF Drivers" (ICH 7/8/9). ICH 8/9/10 motherboards aren' t or are hardly tested on 98/ME! I'm very interested. Currently I am checking a MSI P43 board. I'll post my results. If you buy one, it is to test. Be aware, that probably many of those boards make problems or are unusable on 98/ME. There are no drivers for onboard sound, too. You have to use PCI cards.
  4. WinFAQ is in german: WinFAQ/ There are a lot of translators outthere. babelfish.de gives: Under Windows ME Here you can quite easily turn off the feature. Do this, open the "Start " - > "Run " the program " MSCONFIG.EXE ". Here you can now deactivate under the "Startup" tab, select " * StateMgr " and restart your computer.
  5. What driver version you have installed? The 6200 LE isn't in the inf files of 81.98 and 82.16! Try the mod. 82.69. Or the card may be broken.
  6. Start Opera with KernelEX Compatibility mode Win2000SP4. Now you have the possibility to uncheck file > Show Menu Bar. If you don't have KernelEX go to C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Opera\OPERA\operaprefs.ini. Open the ini file and look for "Show Menu = 1". Change it to "0".
  7. VideoLAN Forums: A solution for Windows 9x/ME users
  8. I already noticed it by the attempt to install nightly builds. I haven't yet a solution or workaround.
  9. Probably yes. Some members reported, that this card work on 98/ME with the modded (extended) driver 82.69. But there is no guarantee. Nvidia supports 98/ME up to Geforce 6800. I have good experience with the Geforce 7800 GT 256MB. Be aware about the shutdown issue. I also recommend to disable all the energy saving features.
  10. Once more the hint on Slipstreamable" Intel Chipset INF Drivers .
  11. CPU: Only one core is working system.ini: required: [386Enh] MaxPhysPage=40000 better 48000 [vcache] MaxFileCache=393216 BIOS: Storage Configuration > ATA/IDE Coniguration > set Compatible There is no 98 driver for the onboard graphics IntelGMA 3100 and probably no for onboard sound and LAN. A driver for ATK 0110 virtual device isn't needed. The board has only two PCI slots. If you use a PCIE graphics card, then there is only space for one sound or LAN card.
  12. Thanks for the reply ;D I have a problem... I can't download it. I'm blocked from this site? The adress had changed: http://windows98.xf.cz/
  13. The printing feature comes with the pro version of Fireshot. It isn't free. But I successfully printed some pages (first only text) with Firefox 3.0.19 and Fireshot 0.76. Printing failed with FF 3.5.19, 3.6.28 and 9.01 here or isn't possible without license key.
  14. Copying and moving is done somehow in batches (packets) or rather intermittently here, too. The machine becomes very slow during the breaks.
  15. There is no driver for ATI Radeon X1200. The driver ATI Catalyst 6.2 works up to X850. The universal VESA/VBE Video Display Driver should work, but it's a very simple one and does not provide any kind of 3D hardware acceleration (DirectX & OpenGL). http://bearwindows.boot-land.net/vbe9x.htm An entry in the System.ini is required to use 1GB RAM: [vcache] MaxFileCache=393216 Also other values work up to 524288.
  16. Naah, I won't shout at you for this , but maybe you could insert additionally a USB to IDE and a IDE to SATA converter and use GPT, just to increase the probabilities that the thingy won't work More seriously, try it on a "normal" hard disk (NOT USB, NOT bigger than 128 Mb, IDE) and/or in a VM (on a smallish virtual disk) it is well possible that any of thevarious "non-standard-at-windows-98-times" may play a role in this (or one among the zillion tweaks, unofficial updates, modified kernels and drivers that you are surely running). jaclaz NTFS4Win98 works here on 40GB drives up to 250GB drives both PATA and SATA. I don't have a bigger drive than 250GB. I never testet eSATA and I'm not sure about USB connection. halohalo said about bigger drives:
  17. I think we can trust our members and not this obscure torrent! Mine is from http://windows98.xf.cz.
  18. I use it for years (zip file is about 2MB). It supports reading and writing. There is only one necessary file (PNTFS.vxd 100KB) to access NTFS drives. The file also can simply copied into the IOSUBSYS folder - reboot required. Apart from that there is a old version of the Partitionsmanager in the package. TµEE: http://www.tmeeco.eu/9X4EVER/GOODIES

  20. I tried VLC 2.1.2 with kex (upgrade from 2.0.5) few days ago but when I click file menu it crashes while 2.0.5 didn't (but drag&drop a file seems to work) so I reverted back. Hallo, VLC 2.0.6+ should run. It runs on all my systems ME and 98SE. The MSVCRT.dll has to be updated. Running vlc with KernelEX comp. mode 2k or XP can lead to such problems. VLC must run with default compatibility options (KernelEx is enabled). 2.1.0 and higher must be installed with XP mode but must run with default compatibility options. Kext isn't required.
  21. I can't check it out. I haven't a machine with a CPU without SSE support anymore. Did you try to open the Java panel "javacpl.cpl" directly in the program folder (C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin)?
  22. Dinput8.dll (MS DirectInput) comes with DirectX 8 and higher. Make sure that the file is in place.
  23. My AGP graphics card models have the following notches: Leadtek WinFast A350XT TDH (NV Geforce 5900XT) with 3,3V and 1,5V key and a Leadtek WinFast A6600GT TDH (NV Geforce 6600GT) with the 1,5V key only.
  24. Every Nvidia AGP 3.0 grapics card should be completely compatible with 2X, 4X, and 8X. Technical Brief: AGP 8X: See on page 5 Compatibility http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/LO_20020923_5956.html
  25. Subject "Open panels via Start Menu" I am still not clear why it works on 98SE and not on ME. I like to understand why!I'm still not able to understand the Windows error messages.I hope one day I'll learn it or go on a course.Perhaps there is someone who helps out. Dependency Walker: The main difference between the use of imagehlp of Win ME and imagehlp of Win 98SE seems to be the additional delay loaded DBGHELP.dll.But it is probably not relevant.I already tried different versions of DBGHELP.dll (5.0, 5.1, 6.x) IMAGEHLP.DLL (5.0, 5.1) and RUNDLL32.exe (XP/Vista).MSVCRT or updated to MSVCR70 makes no difference. As I said, only the IMAGEHLP.DLL of 98SE leads to success.
